Chris Partlow
@ Chris Partlow is one of the best defenseman to ever play in the SHL. Playing 17 seasons in the league, Chris played in Texas for most of his career. A part of the Texas squad that won B2B Cups, he cemented a legacy in Texas and the SHL. Originally starting out in Los Angeles, Partlow was drafted 9th Overall in S10. S10 is also where he got his first start in the SHL, playing 38 games, with 0 goals and 4 assists. A pretty bad start to his career. Especially looking back now. S11 came with double his minutes, a full 50 games played, and 11 goals, 22 assists, and 33 points to finish the season. A great sophomore year after a terrible freshman year. But after S11 a change was coming. Chris-McZehrl(user) took over Los Angeles in the S11 offseason. He wanted a rebuild, and with that decided to move on from Chris Partlow and Logan Valentine. In a huge move, he traded them to Hamilton for Curtis Larade, 1 1st, 1 2nd, 2 3rds, 1 4th, and 2 5ths. So S12 was about to be a great start to Partlows career. S12 started off great for Partlow, scoring 12 points in 18 games as a defenseman. Partlow will only play 18 games on Hamilton, as there was another huge trade that came. He was traded from the Hamilton Steelhawks to the Texas Renegades in a 3 team trade in the middle of the season. It was a huge trade that sent Chris Partlow, Logan Valentine, Nathan Wong, Jay McDonla,d Vyachelsaw Onoprienko, and a 2nd to Texas. Hamilton received Kevin LeBacon and a 1st. Received Markus Dahl, Zach Cuff, Frank Fencepost, and a 3rd. In that trade, The Texas GM Wadester said “All in all I am really excited to bolster this team's defense. With this trade the Renegades have the strongest defense the team has ever been able to put on the ice. Partlow and Valentine are premier young defenders and I'm really psyched to have them. Wong is an incredibly underrated prospect and I see his ceiling as high as his brother Ben's. He is a key young player who I believe will make an immediate impact and a much larger one in years to come. This trade makes us younger and deeper, something that will hopefully make us successful for a long time.” To finish off the S12 season, Partlow had 19 points in 28 games played. Making the total of 31 points in 46 games played for that season. S13 is when things finally went the right way, as with a full season underneath him, he had 7 goals, 36 assists and 43 points. Enough to earn him his first Scott Stevens nomination. S14 will be a highlight of his career. Not only was it his first season reaching a PPG. Scoring 11 goals, 39 assists for 50 points in that season. Defensively he had 111 hits and 70 shots blocked. Earning him his 2nd Scott Stevens nomination. But in the playoffs, Partlow won the cup with Texas! He was also nominated for the Anton Razov trophy. So with a Cup under his belt, and steadily getting better, Partlow’s run of dominance continued. S15 with 11 goals, 29 assists for 40 points. He had 54 hits and 60 shots blocked as well. He was again nominated for his 3rd Scott Stevens trophy. Although not winning it, S16 would change that. S16 He put up crazy numbers for a defenseman during this time. Scoring 13 goals, 49 assists, for 62 points. Defensively he had 79 hits and 75 blocks. Partlow won his first Scott Stevens award. On Top of that, he won the Ron Mexico award. One of only a few defensemen ever to win that award. 49 assists was a record in the STHS realism era that was never broken, showing just what a great season he had. S17 was another continuance of that dominant season before. Scoring 14 goals, 40 assists for 54 points. He also had 40 hits and 73 blocks to go along with it. Securing his 2nd Scott Stevens win - this time a tie, sharing the award with Scherbluk - and getting nominated for the Ron Mexico award. S18 he had a step back. Only putting up 7 goals, and 27 assists for 34 points. Not to mention 84 hits and 97 blocks.. It was good enough for a Scott Stevens nomination, but only that. Not a 3rd win in a row. S19 was the first season he did not get nominated for the Scott Stevens award in 6 seasons. Crazy to think about, even as he had a great offensive season, putting up 9 goals, 31 assists for 47 points. There were just better defensemen than him. S20 though ,we saw the return of Christ Partlow. Getting a 2nd wind as Texas was becoming a better team. He scored 10 goals, 37 assists for 47 points. He also had 121 hits and 80 shots blocked. That earned him his 3rd Scott Stevens win. In the playoffs as well we saw Texas win their 2nd cup with Partlow. Partlow won the Anton Razov award as well for playoff MVP. S21 had a similar performance. Now in the 52 game era, Chris put up 13 goals, 35 assists for 48 points. With 111 blocks and 75 assists, he earned another Scott Stevens nomination. He won a B2B cup with Texas, making it his 3rd Cup for his career. S22 & S23 also showed him reaching the 40 point mark again. Putting up 100+ hits and a decent amount of shots blocked for that time. He earned his 9th and 10th Scott Stevens nomination. S24 was his last time hitting the 40 point mark, although no Stevens nomination. S25 would be his last. After 12 seasons of being their top defensemen, he took a reduced role. And with that only playing 39 games. Scoring 13 goals, 15 assists for 28 points. He called it a career So what would Partlows Legacy be? Retiring in S25 he retired as the defensemen with the 2nd most points behind Darian Scherbluk. Retired with 781 games played, 157 goals, 484 assists for 641 points, for a staggering career pace of .826 points per game. Chris was one of the best defensemen for over a decade of playing. With 3x Stevens wins and 10x total nominations. Not to mention a Ron Mexico Win and Nomination. Which for a defenseman, even to this day is a rare feat to win a Ron Mexico, even to be nominated too. Adding onto his playoff performances with 3 Challenge Cups, where he won the Razov once and had another nomination, and you get a career which is deserving of his high ranking. The only player to really go head to head with Garbanzo in awards and trophies in the trophy case, he is certainly one of the best defenseman to ever play in the SHL, and one of the best players in the SHL. As we get into the top 10, we are also going to be sharing where they got ranked on everyone’s ballots. For Chris, he had x1 #5 vote, 7 Top 10(6-10) vote, and 1 tier 2(11-25) vote. ![]() |
