|
![]() HOF Committee Hall of Fame Head ![]() Date: Thursday, March 28, 2024 Time: 8:00 pm EST Hosted by: @AgentSmith630 Due to inaccuracies in determining eligible players before the Season 67 ballot, ALL players who started their eligibility in Season 66 or before (The last season played must be between S57 - S64) will receive one extra season of eligibility. This means the S66 1st Season Eligible players will be eligible through S73 instead of S72, and all those who started their eligibility before S67 will be eligible for one extra season, assuming they were still eligible at that time. The players with an extra season of eligibility have been marked with an asterisk ( * ). Players with eligibility starting in S67 and after will retain their original 7 seasons of eligibility. The eligibility years listed will not change aside from allowing 8 seasons of eligibility for the classes before S67. After the Ceremony for S73, the maximum number of eligible seasons will return to 7. Good evening, and welcome to the Season 70 SHL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony!
To start tonight, I would like to remind everyone of the voting rules, and some changes that we've made to help accommodate for some mistakes and errors that were made in the past with regards to eligibility and who was on the ballots. Each member of the committee (10 people in all) nominates 5 retired athletes from the list of eligible players and ranks them 1 through 5, which in turn gives these players points according to their rank (10 points for 1st, 7 for 2nd, 5 for 3rd, 3 for 4th and 1 point for 5th). Each committee member must also provide a short written piece to back up their choices. These points are then totaled and all players who receive 35 points or more are selected to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. For GMs, committee members are allowed to place 2 votes, with 1st being 10 points and 2nd being 5, and a GM must receive at least 65 points to be inducted into the Hall of Fame Additionally, due to inaccuracies in determining eligible players before the Season 67 ballot, ALL players who STARTED their eligibility between Season 59 and Season 66 (The last season played must be between S57 - S64) will receive one (1) extra season of eligibility. This means the S66 1st Season Eligible players will be eligible through S73 instead of S72, and all those who started their eligibility before S67 will be eligible for one extra season, assuming they were still eligible at that time. The players with an extra season of eligibility have been marked with an asterisk ( * ) in the eligibility list. Players with eligibility starting in S67 and after will retain the original seven (7) seasons of eligibility. The eligibility years listed will not change aside from allowing eight (8) seasons of eligibility for the classes before S67. After the Ceremony for S73, the maximum number of eligible seasons will return to seven (7). Before we get to celebrate those who made it, let’s take a chance to recognize those who graced our ballots for the final time this season. Nineteen players were on the ballot for the final time during Season 70 who unfortunately did not garner enough votes to be inducted into the SHL Hall of Fame. Our first inductee tonight had a very short career by the standards of most Hall of Fame Inductees, playing for less than a decade, but that doesn't mean that he didn't make an impact on his teams and the Hall of Fame Committee. His first few seasons in the league were good, especially his rookie season where he earned Rookie All-SHL honors and a Jesster nomination, but his final 4 seasons were truly legendary, with 3 All-SHL appearances, 3 Challenge Cups, and a set of awards that make it look like he played for twice as long. Please join me in congratulating . . .

Usually, I wouldn't even consider someone only playing 9 seasons but his trophy case is just as good if not better than a lot of the other forwards who played 15+ seasons." "If you look at anything other than longevity, he has far and away the best resume of all available players. He won awards, he went out winning back-to-back cups and 3 in 4 seasons, he shouldn't be punished for choosing not to play with diminishing returns given that he'd already accomplished so much." "You can't help but acknowledge the greatness of that career with 4 SHL selections + 2 seasons of being in the running for the MVP spots. Also was a Razov nominee and was above PPG in their career." "4 All-SHL appearances, an ass-kicking 3 award wins with 5 additional nominations, and all in a mere 9 season career. Even when discounting his PPG status with it being a relatively short career, Lilja was clearly a huge presence in the league and I'm willing to bet his career totals would have been more than comparable to those already inducted had he played 20 seasons." |
