Hey everyone it's Dale Murphy and I'm here from Norway.
And I'm reporting on the loss of a very dear friend. Team USA has been eliminated. And they weren't even close. While last season the Americans were good for second in group A they fell in the quarters. This year they have been a national disgrace. They had just a 4-7 record with one OT loss, giving them just 13 points. That was good for... Last in group A. In fact, they are so bad, here are their finishes dating back to their most recent gold in S63: S65, S71, S72, S74 quarters. S64, S66, S67, S68, S69, S70, S73 missed medal rounds. They have not played for a medal since the gold in S63. That is not a way to be a premier hockey nation. But at the same time they have been great in the Js. They had a three peat as WJC Gold S71, S72 and S73. That ended due to having their team split into blue and red squads. But in S74 each made the quarters at least, not like the IIHF team has done too many times. They did in S70 as well before starting the three peat. In S69 they won gold. Right now with the split squad? The two team USAs both won their group. Team Blue will play Norden, and Team White will play British Isles. A young Johnny Shuffleboard playing the puck at the S71 WJC semifinals against Canada. USA won the game 2-1 and went on to win gold. The USA will need to figure out what has gone wrong at the IIHF level. They have not been near the podium in 12 seasons. Is it time to jetson the veterans for the younger players, the members of that three peat in the Js? The heads of federations must figure this one out. Fast That's all for today folks!
