A ranking of the top 3 teams in SMJHL Southern Conference will be done. The rankings will be based on my judgment and will cover the team's main strengths, weaknesses, and 1 or 2 key players.

1. Carolina Kraken

The rightful heir to the top ranking in the SMJHL southern conference are the Carolina Kraken. They are tied for the most points (14) with the fewest amount of games played in the regular season (8). The only two losses that the team has incurred were in overtime. The team's key strengths are their impressive goal differential of +24 (the highest in the conference and 2nd in the league) and their deep defensive core, which explains why they have the lowest goals against at 13. The Kraken are one of those teams that barely have any weaknesses at all as they are deep everywhere in the roster. Only thing that can potentially be better is their face off but now we are being very nit picky about it. The key player on this team is without a doubt their iron wall, Denebor Milasch. The dude is a 6'5 giant that basically boasts the best game rating in the entire conference with 90 and a save % of 0.95

2. Maine Timber

Sitting right below the Kraken are Maine Timber. The southern conference is not nearly as competitive as their northern counterpart and hence, it's a safe bet to say that the Timber will finish 2nd in their conference. The team is tied with Kraken for the most points but also played 3 more games. The team is on a relatively hot streak as they have won their last three games and literally killed San Diego twice. Their key strengths are their low goals against average of 2.82 (only Kraken is lower) and the number of high capped players (425 tpe). It explains why the team did as well as they did last season. The main weakness I see with this team is that they are bang average in a lot of key areas like power play %, goals scored and etc. They don't excel anywhere like the Kraken. The key players on this team are the Lavoie Siblings (Mia and Edouard) who have the highest points total for Maine at 17. They are the Sedins of SHL and we can only hope they continue their excellence.

3. Detroit Falcons
This was a very hard decision to make over Nevada but I will explain my reasons. Detroit has played 9 games so far and boasts a positive goal differential unlike Nevada. The team also took the best team(Newfoundland Berserkers) in the league to shootouts. The Berserkers are the only undefeated team in the league at the moment with no regulation or shootout losses. They also boast the highest goal differential in the entire league. This in itself is super impressive that Detroit were able to do this. If they continue developing their players, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up surpassing Maine but for now they are still third. The team's main strength is their shots for at 46.11, the highest in the league. No wonder they also have a decent amount of goals scored because they are bombarding the opposition with an onslaught of pucks in their face. Another area that demonstrates the team's strength is their top 4 defense. Carolina may have more depth, but no team has a better top 4 than the Falcons as they are at max tpe/near max tpe levels. One area of major weakness for the falcons is their goal tending. This may also explain why they are not doing better than they should since their main goalie has a game rating of 62, the 2nd worst in the whole conference. If they should have a chance at the cup, they need to focus on this primarily. The key player for the Falcons is none other than Brayden Point. He is the real definition of a sniper and leads the league in goals with 12. It is excruciating to see that the second highest goal scorer on the team is only at 5. The man is single handedly carrying their offensive line.
