Czeching out the Czechia Line Up:
Each Week we are going to look at 3 to 4 players from Czechia to see who exactly they are in the SHL. The Deep-ish dive will continue to go in Seniority Order for Czechia. Let's keep this Czhit going! Last week we spoke about Alexej Kastrba , Arnost Hlemyzd , and Sunrise van de Schubbekutteveen. This time around we have Five-Hole Sieve , Ondrej von Stoodrick , and Valerija Serapin. @G2019 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Born in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, Five-Hole Sieve played 4 seasons for the Kelowna Knights amd is currently on the Buffalo Stampede. Five-Hole won a Silver medal with Team ICE in the WJC in 74. Sieve was picked up by the Knights halfway through the 72 season, where the rookie had an impressive .903 sv % in 30 games. Sieve would follow up the 72 bid with 3 shutouts in 73, and a GAA of 3.71 in 55 games. In S74 Five-Hole would play in 57 games, with a 3.85GAA and a save % of .890. In the final season, Five-Hole would have 60 games played, the most saves with over 2000 and a solid game rating of 73. Buffalo picked up Sieve in the 2nd round of the S73 draft, with the 32nd pick. In the SHL, Five-Hole posted 2 shutouts with over 1000 minutes played in 18 games with Buffalo. A 2.32 GAA and .928 save % and 11 wins. Five-Hole is a great back up choice for Buffalo right now behind Casey Fantobens, but as regression hits, Five-Hole might be getting the nod more often than not to pick up some of the load. For the WJC, Five-Hole bounced around between team world and Ice before ended up with Czechia for the first season of Czechia's IIHF team. Overall Sieve has played 32 games for the WJC, pulling a silver medal in S74, and has had impressive stats right around the .9 Save % and Sitting right at 3 GAA. For the IIHF, Five-Hole has done everything they can to get Czechia competitive. With a .921 Save % last year, a GR of 92 (highest in the league) and almost 400 saves on 430 shots faced, Five -Hole has carried the Czechia team while it grows. We are very thankful for Sieve, and hope we can reward their efforts with a gold run! @Saucetonia ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ondrej von Stoodrick hails from Cheb, Czechia and was drafted by the Newfoundland Berserkers with the 25th pick in the S72 draft. That year Ondrej would make the Rookie All-Star Team. This defenseman would put up over 100 blocks in all three regular seasons with the Berserkers, with over 190 takeaways in 198 regular seasons. Von Stoodrick would be a huge part of the 73 push for a cup for Newfoundland, getting 19 points in 24 games and really helping on the blueline. In S73 OVS would make the 2nd All star team. Also in S73 , the LAP would draft them! In the SHL, OVS would be selected 33rd overall in the 2nd round of the S73 draft. They would never play for LAP, however, as they were grouped in a trade to Chicago . In Chicago, OVS would continue to grow, blocking more than a shot a game while throwing almost one hit a game. The Syndicate continue to rebuild, and as such have not had huge playoff success yet, but are still looking better with OVS on the blueline. In the WJC, OVS bounced around from ICE, to BRI to RCL in S74. S74 would also be the year UCORCAL pulled a bronze medal, and OVS was a big part of it, putting up 8 blocks in 3 games, while eating over 20 minutes of ice time a game. In the IIHF, Ondrej has been still blocking a shot a game, almost throwing a hit a game, and has 11 take aways in 24 games with Czechia. As we gel together as a team, look for Stoodrick to be a minute eater on a shutdown pairing! @Will3 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Valerija Serapin comes from the land of Vilnius, Lithuania, and is currently on the Montreal Patriotes in the SHL. This Former Raptor was drafted 41st overall in the S72 draft by Colorado. That season, Serapin would make the Rookie All Star Team. This defenseman who stands at over 6 foot, 7 inches tall, throws big checks (over 500 in 264 games in the Jr league) while blocking shots, almost 350 total. Most impressively, however, is the Cup run of S75 that gave the Raptor name plate the first cup in its history. That glory will never be taken away, and I am glad the Raptors got their win! In the SHL, Valerija was drafted by Montreal in the 2nd round, with the 37th overall pick. In their rookie season, Serapin managed to get over 20 minutes a night on average, with 25 points in 66 games. They threw over a hit a game, and had 102 blocks in those 66 games. Most impressively was the 55 takeaways with only 16 giveaways. Valerija is still waiting to see if any Raptor Magic can follow them to the big leagues, as Montreal hasn't made the playoffs yet with Valerija in the line up. In the WJC, Valerija has been a bit of a journeyman, going from WOR in S73 and S74, to finally making it home in S75 with Czechia. They have continued the trend of over a hit a game and 1.5 times that in blocks per game. They have also continued to get over 20 minutes a night of ice time. Serapin has also managed to get powerplay and shorthanded minutes while eating all those regular strength minutes. For the IIHF, Valerija Serapin hasn't cracked the line up yet, but we expect them to very shortly, as some older players start to dwindle down. Look for Valerija to be just like OVS, a shut down defender who will punish you if you try to enter the zone! That'll do it for this one, thanks for reading! See you all next week(ish)!
