S78 Team TPE Analysis and Predictions

Hello SHL Friends! It is that time of year again where everyone is thinking about season predictions. In the past, I did a team analysis based solely on Team TPE, because I subscribe to the theory that how your team will do is largely based on the TPE strength. Things like player builds and roles, and coaching strategies and line combos do of course affect things, but I would argue to a lesser degree than just overall roster TPE. My predictions from seasons past largely held up, barring a couple teams finishing a position higher or lower than anticipated.

There are other factors to consider, such as players who are active will improve as the season goes on, so teams with more active players could get better as we progress. But for a preseason look, this can give us a decent enough look at which teams will be favored as we await the puck to drop to get the new season started!

Without further ado, let's have a look at:

PACIFIC DIVISION

pride SAN FRANCISCO PRIDE pride

1974 - 1908 - 1816
1768 - 1754 - 1693
1686 - 1311 - 1063

1937 - 1923
1868 - 1559
1081 - 751

1529
142

--Analysis--

The Pride were the best team in the Western Conference the past 2 seasons, and won the Cup in S76, so they have been a powerhouse for a couple seasons now. There is no reason to believe this will change this season, as they have an enviable roster put together.
Their top 2 lines, forward and defense, outmatch almost every team in the league. Their 3rd line would be the top line on some of the other teams in this division. The starting goaltender is good-to-elite so they have no worries there. With only 1 player under 1K TPE, there are no weaknesses on this team. Expect them to compete for the President's Cup again this season!

Panthers LOS ANGELES PANTHERS Panthers

1867 - 1830 - 1739
1713 - 1548 - 1546
1545 - 1388 - 1251

1954 - 1658
1593 - 1520
1367 - 999

1821
764

--Analysis--

The Panthers made a few changes to the roster and come out with arguably the best depth in the division, as well as the best goaltender. All 3 of their lines should be able to play competitively regardless of matchups.
I place them slightly behind SFP here because their top 2 lines don't quite match the strength of the Pride's, and it might take some time for the new players to gel together and develop chemistry. That being said, with 3 weaker teams in the division to feast on, LAP will get their share of wins and be a top 5 team in the league.

Dragons CALGARY DRAGONS Dragons

1569 - 1301 - 1236
1204 - 1108 - 1071
838 - 673 - 655

1304 - 1302
1228 - 1122
1027 - 792

1244

--Analysis--

The Dragons' rebuild is coming along nicely, as we are starting to see great improvement in the top 2 lines. The Dragons are a very young team with only 3 players older than S72, and several of these players seem ready to take it up a notch.
Obviously they are looking ahead, but they have potential to improve a lot over last season and should see some big positives for the players. With a goalie who is capable of stealing games, I see CGY pretty secure in 3rd place here.

Argonauts SEATTLE ARGONAUTS Argonauts

1201 - 1180 - 1175
1165 - 980 - 917
829 - 680 - 543

1150 - 1001
890 - 834
805 - 651

871
450

--Analysis--

Another team coming out of a rebuild, the Argonauts iced a team with 7 rookies last season, and continue that trend by adding 3 more this season. After seeing a tremendous performance by several of those rookies last season, the Argos
hope to avoid any sophomore slumps and see improvement over last season's showing, where they narrowly missed the playoffs. Expectations are high and fan expectations are that we will see the squad in the playoffs this season. They should be in the wildcard race for sure.

Blizzard EDMONTON BLIZZARD Blizzard

1481 - 961 - 950
840 - 770 - 725
678 - 630 - 495

1084 - 1038
915 - 780
528 - 422

657
208

--Analysis--

The Blizzard's prospect pool is certainly very exciting after the last 2 Drafts, but the parent team looks to struggle mightily this season. They do have a couple of good players but a good portion of the roster is IFA filler.
I don't see them improving over last season at all, could be a long and painful one with single digit wins total. Easily the worst team in the league.
