S78 Team TPE Analysis and Predictions

Hello SHL Friends! It is that time of year again where everyone is thinking about season predictions. In the past, I did a team analysis based solely on Team TPE, because I subscribe to the theory that how your team will do is largely based on the TPE strength. Things like player builds and roles, and coaching strategies and line combos do of course affect things, but I would argue to a lesser degree than just overall roster TPE. My predictions from seasons past largely held up, barring a couple teams finishing a position higher or lower than anticipated.

There are other factors to consider, such as players who are active will improve as the season goes on, so teams with more active players could get better as we progress. But for a preseason look, this can give us a decent enough look at which teams will be favored as we await the puck to drop to get the new season started!

Without further ado, let's have a look at:

CENTRAL DIVISION

Specters NEW ORLEANS SPECTERS Specters

1898 - 1884 - 1621
1587 - 1463 - 1345
1285 - 1103 - 1056

1912 - 1869
1812 - 1711
1467 - 1354

1508
497

--Analysis--

The Specters have quietly put together a very strong team, with what very well could be the best defense corps in the league. Most of their players are veterans now with the youngest rostered player coming in from S72.
They have a strong contingent of players from the S68-S70 Drafts who are at their peak. Even their oldest players are still capable of being big contributors. Coming off a 40 win season, if the Specters can just put it all together
they could be a serious Cup threat this season!

Renegades TEXAS RENEGADES Renegades

1924 - 1866 - 1814
1394 - 1222 - 1194
1162 - 1139 - 1083

1934 - 1767
1409 - 1351
1230 - 798

1704
582

--Analysis--

Texas is coming off a finals appearance from last season and still have a solid core of players. The top line is all elite and should put up a lot of points. Several players from last season did get hit with regression so they have less depth than NOLA in the second and third lines. But overall they still a boast a solid team up and down and have last season's success to build off of. They should easily secure home ice for the first round of playoffs.

Monarchs MINNESOTA MONARCHS Monarchs

1693 - 1632 - 1630
1620 - 1128 - 1116
1057 - 735 - 692

1692 - 1396
1349 - 1048
994 - 638

977
887

--Analysis--

Minnesota had a great season in S77 pulling off 40 wins for the first time in forever. I don't think they will be able to replicate that feat this season, however. The top 2 lines are pretty decent and you should see their stars put up some healthy numbers, but the third line is a bit weak. They don't have the elite goaltending that other teams in the division do, although they do have a decent tandem.
They are overall still better than the two remaining teams so they should happily make the playoffs again if they can play to their strengths.

Aurora WINNIPEG AURORA Aurora

1765 - 1645 - 1205
1112 - 874 - 821
656 - 600 - 479

1247 - 1188
1174 - 1024
744 - 742

1951
??

--Analysis--

Winnipeg lost a fair number of players to retirement or trades over the last couple of seasons, and are now looking to a new generation to lead them back to glory. With a couple of players ready to hit elite mode, and the best goalie in the division as a starter, they have potential to win some games, but the glaring weakness is definitely the lack of depth in the bottom part of the roster.
They probably won't improve much over the 26 wins they had last season.

syndicate CHICAGO SYNDICATE syndicate

1543 - 1397 - 1166
1154 - 987 - 967
762 - 639 - 530

1370 - 1176
883 - 731
710 - 505

754

--Analysis--

Chicago has lots of young players but honestly it seems like the development is not coming along as nicely as it seemed to be going just a couple of seasons ago. The top players on the roster are pretty young and on their way to being superstars, but the bottom 2 lines, especially on defense, are the weakest in the division. Chicago does always seem to outperform expectations, so they might find a way into the playoffs, but it will be a challenge for sure!
