When your roster is 10 rookies deep, you're going to have a rough season. No one was expecting much from the Kraken this season, and for fair reason. Koala thrived in this open environment, being the skater that paired best with the top line trio of Chef, Oligny, and Belcher - slotting in as a rookie into the top line and keeping the line positive in shot differential helping boost the other two forwards to PPG despite the roster's 2-12 start to the season. Blake Hutchinson had a standout rookie season, taking the powerplay time that Koala shared given their first line status, and that likely overshadows how instrumental Koala was to the first line's even strength performance which acted as a stabilizing force on a roster deep with rookies.Magic is a super quiet but reliable member of the locker room, head down and earning well, they've started to grow more comfortable in the discord each week and have really helped set an example to the other first gens as to what can be attained so far as developing a player. Other people might be more talkative, but I would take a dozen Magics in a heartbeat, that stability and level of interest in the team's success pairs wonderfully with a roster that needs tone setters and people to step up and lead by example. Deth Klaw (S76, LD) / @ZootTX
Our unsung hero is Deth Klaw. High CF and FF, and an insane +/- without putting up a bunch of points themselves. Support player, played important minutes on the PK. Zoot played a mentor role in our LR, helped new-gen players a lot. Active daily. TBFAW (S79, RW) / @TBFAW
As a rookie on a not so great team, TBFAW was able to become an assist machine. He didn't have the greatest start and played on the 2nd line. He was able to get a commendable 31 points with less ice time then most, despite his 96 PDO.Off the ice this is where TBFAW shined. He was a constant presence in the LR and help to keep the team morale up in a disappointing season. He has entered into our leadership role, helping us scout and some interest in other areas of the team. Being a true rookie, it's always great to see a player grow into his own and I think he has huge potential for that in this league. Matthias (S78, LD) / @Gyro_Hero
Nothing says "team player" like the season Matthias had for the Scarecrows this season, recording only a single goal with 25 assists from the blueline. Adding 68 takeaways (the 2nd most on his team) to just 18 giveaways, and 90 blocks to keep the goaltender happy, he was a force on defense too, keeping his team in close games and allowing the offense to work, even if it meant he didn't get the credit for a great season himself. Playing on the second line for both special teams units and the even strength lines, Matthias was willing to help out anywhere he was needed and take the dirty matchups while the stars went to work on the top line, and his contributions ensured that the young St. Louis team had the depth to put together a strong season.Gyro_Hero is a gem of a user, and one I think we'll be seeing around for a long time. Almost from the moment he joined the league, his infectious energy and positivity stood out, and I was blown away when scouting him. Snatched up quickly by STL and named an alternate captain, it's clear that he's become a big part of their locker room even from the outside, but what stands out is just how involved he's become in the league overall. Gyro_Hero has dabbled in just about everything, from scouting as a rookie user to GMing in the WJC and contributing in key roles in the J All-Star, awards, and historian departments. He approaches every role with a level of dedication and maturity that's rare even in long term veteran users, and his passion for not just his team, but the SMJHL as a whole, is something that goes beyond any expectation for a new user.
