S79 Team TPE and Roster Analysis

Hello and welcome once again to these pieces analyzing the team TPE to predict where they will finish in the standings.
With most teams having their rosters finalized or close to it, we can start to see how they all stack up against each other!

My methodology is based on the premise that the single biggest indicator to how a team will do is the team TPE, and how it is distributed. That is to say that generally Forwards > Defense > Goalie. Obviously things like player builds and roles, and coaching strategies and line chemistry are factors that can change things, but I would argue to a lesser extent than simply team TPE. Also, I list the roster depth chart solely on TPE: not all teams, or any team necessarily, will run their lines exactly like this but it still gives a clear view on where the strengths or weaknesses of a team may lie.

Without further ado, let's have a look at:

ATLANTIC DIVISION

Forge PHILADELPHIA FORGE Forge

1931 1869 1749
1560 1504 1352
1307  864  804

1788 1780
1620 1590
1321 1176

1449  786

The Forge are a team that seems to consistently be at the top, steadily swapping in youth for age season by season. About half the roster got hit with regression but for every player that lost a step, another one seems ready to take their place. They have the strongest top line in the division, a very good second line, and a strong defense core. I don't really see them falling back much this season at all.
Prediction: 44-46 Wins

Barracuda TAMPA BAY BARRACUDA  Barracuda

1796 1566 1561
1541 1365 1364
1262 1240  950

1775 1622
1621 1544
1526 1349

1938  957

OK so TBB went OFF last season which made my predictions look silly. Can Carnage have another ridiculous season? Maybe! He's not regressing so actually comes in stronger than last season. Overall, most of the roster is in their peak seasons and while a few did get hit by regression, it's not enough to really cripple them. Their defense and goalie is ridiculously high TPE, it is the area where they have improved the most. I'm reluctant not to give them 1st place because they did last season so there's no reason to think they couldn't - but the top line is just potentially not at the same level as some of the other teams in this division so I will say they finish a solid 2nd
Prediction: 43-45 Wins

Inferno ATLANTA INFERNO  Inferno

1870 1783 1542
1265 1161 1148
1135 1091  967

1589 1563
1557 1385
1251 1154

909  815  578

Atlanta is a really good team and their best is still yet to come. Only 5 of their players faced regression last season so they are improved in almost all areas, especially defense. With a high TPE top line and solid depth on the 2nd and 3rd lines, they are poised to compete in a division where every team has a lot of strengths. Their goaltending tandem is pretty solid even if they are not quite as high TPE as other teams here. They are certainly a team that will be dangerous come playoff time.
Prediction: 40-42 Wins

Platoon BALTIMORE PLATOON Platoon

1753 1719 1692
1580 1497 1203
1030  981

1902 1871
1531 1202
770  654

1174  476

The Platoon deserve a better fate than what they had the last few seasons. They have been a really strong team which just was never quite able to capture the Cup. It does not help that they are in the toughest division of the league but that is the way it goes sometimes. Of all the teams in this division they are the ones who got hurt the most by regression, especially the 2nd and 3rd lines. Their top line is still elite and the second line is as good as most, but overall they are a little lower than last season. But again, not a team I'd want to face in the early rounds of the playoffs. They have room for 1 more forward so if they can obtain a strong player to fill that slot it could elevate them a bit.
Prediction: 33-35 Wins

Rage MANHATTAN RAGE  Rage

1554 1462 1323
1270 1258 1072
983  932  856  840

1741 1427
1281 1168
919  655

1276  804

The Rage overall show the most improvement - only 2 players regressed from last season so they come in stronger across all 3 lines. The top 2 lines especially should be more competitive and give them a chance to win some games. The third line is a bit concerning as it is weaker than what the other teams can put out. It's tough to put them last again - if you put this team in the west they'd make the playoffs for sure but they have a chance to still make the playoffs as a wild card!
Prediction: 28-30 Wins

There you have it! Good luck and have fun!
