S79 SMJHL PT #0: New Places Due: Sunday, October 13th @ 11:59 PM PST

Greyson Willis scanned into the Kraken practice facility for the first time the morning after the draft. He was surprised that he was given access that quickly. Not knowing what to expect, he looked around to see who was already there. All the current players saw him come in and gave him a wave or a nod from their respective weight machines. One by one, Willis was greeted by his new teammates as they finished their sets; some with a smile and a high-five, some with a fist bump, and some with a firm handshake. Regardless of their method, they all made him feel welcome. The other rookies were there, too, and they all got the same treatment from the veteran players. After meeting everyone, Greyson went to check out the locker room, and finally got to see the culmination of his life's hard work: right in front of him, between the names of the veteran players, was a name plaque on a stall reading "WILLIS". His story has just begun.

I have come to the right place. I can definitely say that when I first entered the team's dressing room. Everyone accepted me with a smile and immediately wanted to know something about my career as well as about my life in general, because real Latvians don't happen so often in teams. Then I tried to tell them about myself, about how I've been so far and what I've done. In general, I am quiet and composed, but in really good company I also tend to open up.

I was born and raised in Latvia, in a city whose name means nothing to anyone. But overall, it's a beautiful place and I learned the roots of hockey right there. Then, as a teenager, I moved to Sweden, where I already learned more fundamentals to improve my playing skills. Therefore, I believe and hope that I have learned to play properly and the fact that I was chosen so high indicates that I am in quite good shape.

First, coming into the San Diego Tidals locker room was kind of surreal. Being a recent expansion team, the energy in the air was electric, but there was even a sense of cohesiveness because everyone was on a new journey, veterans and rookies alike, trying to make their mark. The locker room was crisp and clean, and each guy in his stall had a brand-new jersey for the S79 with the proud logo of the Tidals.

Immediately upon entering, the veterans and other draftees welcomed me with open arms, hand-shaking, patting me on the back, and the like to let us know we were part of the team. It wasn't long before team captains rounded everyone up for a quick speech, welcoming the newcomers aboard. They spoke about the exciting opportunity to build something special together from the ground up.

The team did have a small get-together after practice to make us feel at home. They had an outdoor BBQ outside the arena so that everybody would not be on their toes-which allowed everyone to loosen up, eat, and have some laughs. The stories of the old guys about how they had gone through the same roof as we were going through now advised and encouraged us: It wasn't a simple formal welcome, but it felt as though they were thrilled to have us present, and for the brotherhood that was going to grow with the legacy of the Tidals. We weren't just joining any team but helping mould its future.

I missed the plane.

Due to late in season storming, I did not manage to make it to the plane in time, and I missed out on being drafted. It is unfortunate, but it is a hurdle that can easily be overcome.

After joining the waiver wire, I began to put in the work to grow my skills, and I was rewarded with multiple teams reaching out and expressing interest. It is quite flattering to have this much interest, but I am determined to prove that I am worthy of it. I am unsure where I will end up, but I am excited to begin my journey to the SHL.

My goal is to play with my brother. He is currently a defenseman on Calgary, and I am looking forward to teaming up with him and dominating on the blue line one day. But for now, I must continue to focus on the present, and continue my training to ensure that whomever claims me from the waiver wire does not regret their decision. I want to be as close to the best as possible, and I intend on getting to that level as soon as possible.

Carter Rumsey slowly stepped through the Kraken locker room doors, feeling the overwhelming sense of pride that he has longed for since he first stepped foot on the ice over twenty years ago. Carter was never a particularly flashy player, a quiet man that's always preferred to let his game speak for itself. Immediately Carter scans the room, seeing many of his teammates, a couple look over with a welcoming grin. Goose, Mannon, and Ocho are huddled in the back end of the locker room, each waving and then quickly getting back to their discussion of who is going to be star of the season opener. Carter is loving the sense of competitiveness in the air, everyone seeming eager to get on the ice and show why they deserve top minutes. Sve7en ultimately came over and greeted Carter. Carter was shown to his locker. He slowly placed his bag in the cubby, peering up and noticing his name tag above, he has finally made it. Various players came up and welcomed Carter, he suited up and headed for the ice. Time to prove his worth.

I had just taken a long plane and bus ride to Newfoundland. I couldn't believe I was drafted considering how my hockey career had gone so far. I got into the Berserker's practice facility. I followed the signs towards the locker room. I opened the doors feeling nervous yet excited for my future. I awkwardly bumped into someone right next to the door. It was my GM. I profusely apologized. To my surprise my GM just laughed a bit and welcomed me to the team. Several of the players in the locker room welcomed me as well. I was taken aback by how big the locker room was. Weston was the first one to introduce himself to me. He was the Berserkers' LD and he began showing me around. He introduced me to several other players who were getting dressed or tying their laces. He brought me to my locker. My locker had my jersey hanging there. I couldn't believe the sight. I had my name on a locker with a #28 jersey on it! I made it this far and the sight filled me with more motivation for my career. My locker was next to another defenseman. I looked towards the top of the locker and the nameplate shone containing Colton Paraygeko. He was drafted with me. I had played with him in the prospect tournament earlier. He was a great presence on and off the ice during the tourney. I was excited to join the same team as him in the J league. The GM got all of us together and said that we will be running some drills and a friendly game to see what the new guys had in the tank for the team. I had a jolly time sharing the ice with everyone and I saw that I could improve so much under the veterans and the new guys. I can't wait for the season to start to show everyone what Gogi has for the Berserkers

Can't say anything, but positive things after my first time in the San Diego locker room. Many kind faces around there, but we all seemingly want to accomplish the same goal... get to winning. It's going to be a great season... A great season for growth and a great season for character. Our number one goal is to prepare ourselves to be ready for whatever role our coach puts us in. Regardless of wants and desires, I'm ready to play whatever role that may be. I am curious to see what number I will be wearing on the ice and I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. First impressions seem to be a thing, yet all I want to do is put my head down, tighten the skates and go show everyone what I can do. I'm a long ways from home, yet the staff here at team headquarters has truly put in their best effort to make this place a home away from home.

At first, as is often the case when Hoglord walks into any room, his teammates are perplexed by his skull's large dents and overly sharp features. Many are also eager to learn how to pronounce his first name properly. 'Al-O-Wish-Us,' he responded in a typically posh, deep voice. However, some teammates, knowing of his origin brought some tea and biscuits to their first practice as a way of helping the Hoglord to assimilate to the new culture. At first, many teammates found it hard to adjust to the Hoglord's dry sense of humor and unimpeded stoic demeanor, but they began to understand each other over time. For Hoglord, the hardest part of the move was the flight primarily, followed by the weather as it worsened between the draft and the end of the preseason. Hoglord had never experienced such cold before, excluding his family's vacation to the Arctic when his father was an officer in her Majesty's Navy.

I walked into the locker room, a little late to the party, but a couple people come up to me to make sure I feel welcomed. We talked for a bit about what kind of player I am, and what I am aiming to do with my career, I was really happy and ready to respond. They didn't organize much, but making the room itself as welcoming as is was enough for me to feel like I meant to be there. That everything led me to here and I have to continue my growth here.

As Twinkle Toes walked through the door, the whole locker room turned towards them. Socially awkward they were taken aback until someone introduced themselves as Anton and that they run a pet daycare. Immediately, Twinkle showed him pictures of their dog Dot, a half Australian Sheppard and half Bernese Mountain dog. Dot was a quick hit with Anton and the whole team. Twinkle’s phone quickly made the rounds around the locker room as player after player came up to greet him. After all that was done, Twinkle greeted the room the only way they knew how, with a dad Joke.

What type of clothes do clouds wear?

Thunderpants!

Twinkle was met with a loud, long chorus of groans. Someone shouted from the back “Bring the puppy back”. As things were settling down the GM, Bradyen Point, entered the room clearly coming back from some black tie even. Their booming voice welcomed both new draft picks Twinkle and Quazon to the team and reassured them that if they needed anything GM Brayden Point would be there to help.

They saw a big fuck that has dangles like no other rookie in the simulation hockey league. Also saw a guy that has a great shot and loves to shoot the puck. I Hamilton steelhawk has a presence about him that is feared on and off the size due to this talent level and hide sure size. There has never been such a unicorn in the shl like this guy. He is going to score a lot of points and be a difficult son of a bitch to deal with when it comes to having the puck on his stick. And is going to a Greta hard working presence and making sure that he does all of his training and point tasks are some of his goals for this player.

It's going to be real interesting to see a Hamilton steelhawk on the Yukon malamutes and he's going to be a player that will help make this team a contender.
