growing up in fiji, there is no opportunity to play ice hockey out doors as fiji tends to get very hot. this is because the majority of radiation from the suns rays get absorbed by the surrounding ocean, so basically the ocean acts as a way to keep heat around the country. because of this, any outdoor game held in fiji would very quickly turn into a game of water polo. which would not make for much of a winter classic. these games when used sparingly in a season can be very special for fans to watch. i think the colorado raptors would have the carolina kraken as outdoor opponents, especially with last seasons playoffs going to game 7. this would be a cool rematch kind of story. after moving to colorado from fiji enlightened centrist has had many of opportunities to play in outdoor games. the atmosphere is simply completely different playing under the open night sky and having 3 times as many fans at the games and in a much larger arena.
Jamie Fraser has limited knowledge of modern sports, his hockey skills coming only from his time playing shinty which was safely not on ice. The winter Olympics are a new opportunity for him to meet people of new cultures and experience new sports. He is fascinated by the idea of bobsled, it is reckless and dangerous but the speed is captivating. He watches women's hockey to get new ideas about the sport he plays. Figure skating is a beautiful artistic expression where he appreciates both the choreography and athleticism but is confused by how something artistic can be scored competitively, this gets many sympathetic laughs as he begins to ask friends about it. Curling is fascinating and strategic, a sport he invests a great deal in learning, if he ever ends up back in his timeline he would love to introduce it to his country. His absolute favorite sport is simply speed skating though, the simplicity and ability is captivating.

Not a Commissioner. Shh!
Dominik would be really excited to be playing in a Winter Classic type game with the Pride. San Francisco doesn’t get a ton of snow on a yearly basis, so hopefully getting to play in a fun outdoor game in a different sports stadium and getting some snow is cool. There’s also something very cool about being able to have a fun alternate jersey and get a cool experience with the family. You see all the cool pictures from other teams doing it and getting the little pre game skate with their kids and spouses. Plus, if you score a game winner or a cool goal in the game, that’s the kind of thing that stays on your career highlight reel. Of course, Dominik has a couple of Cup rings, but a great outdoor game would be one of those cool things that would cap off your career in a fun way. Lots of neat and fun things to experience in your career.

From a young age, Jesus Murphy has been in love with the idea of playing in an outdoor game as an SHL player. He had the good fortune of seeing his father play in multiple Winter Classic games growing up, and the still image of his grandfather scoring an OT winner in a snowstorm for the Hamilton Steelhawks is burned into his brain, as well as hung on the walls of his childhood home. When it was announced that Seattle would be hosting this season's Winter Classic event, it was a rush of emotions for the young Argonaut. The chance for him to make his own iconic memories while carrying on the Murphy legacy means a great deal to him. The announcement of an alumni game was an even greater bonus - given that the youngest Murphy more or less grew up hanging around the Argonauts dressing room, many of the great alumni of the franchise are also close family friends and mentors, so getting to share in this moment with all of them is extra special.
Lyle Odelein IV was born in New Orleans. He was born there while his father was player for the very same New Orleans Specters that the younger Lyle currently plays for. While he was born in a city the is not known for their outdoor rinks, and I mean, they are not known for this at all. But his family is from Montreal, Quebec, a place very well known for their cold, freezing winter months. So Lyle is no stranger to playing hockey on an outdoor rink. He knows it is something special to skate with the cold wind on your face. He knows that playing in a Winter Classic game would be an honour, something that not every player may get to experience. It is a special game, that differs great from playing in an indoor arena, with perfect ice and perfect playing conditions. The outdoor ice and elements bring a whole new level to the game. Something Lyle can't wait to experience at the SHL level.
Growing up, Hotdog Lunch was only able to play hockey on outdoor sheets of ice. He never actually played for a team until he got to Ottawa, which is wild considering how far he has come as a player with no actual team experience. Typically these types of games are a bit of a gimmick, but this year our team tried something new - we set up some community hockey tournaments on the local rinks with random players of the Highlanders playing with the fans on their teams. This was one of the ways that we were able to get ready for the outdoor game, but we also were able to help raise money for the local shelters while running the event. I think the team will get a ton of game time readiness from playing on the outdoor ice, it helps them get used to playing within the constraints of Earth's elements. Sometimes skating into the wind can be harder than people think haha.
Matiss is always interested in things that he can do around the hockey season, but as far as during winter when hockey season is going on Matiss will be interested in curling and snowboarding. The interest from curling came as he was growing up. A lot of the rinks that he played on, also had curling at them as well, so as they were getting ready for practices and being around the rink a lot people were always curling, and it always looked like something he would like to be able to try to do at some point. Snowboarding would come second because that is something that he has never tried to do but has always wanted to. He has done skiing and snow blading before because those are similar to hockey skating motions and it became natural for him to do those activities whereas snowboarding comes with a little bit different feeling but definitely something he would want to give a try.
Welp, Hamilton is finally getting its chance to play in the winter classic and Trevor Lahey couldn't be any more excited. The winter classic is such a big event, who doesn't love playing outside, it's as close as you can get to playing on the lake like when he grew up playing but all of his fans get to watch as well as the people at home watching it on their TVs! It's such a fun experience for everyone especially the fans, it's not something that happens all the time for the local fans so for the ones that get to go, it could be a once in a lifetime type of opportunity. But for Lahey, He will treat it like every other game, one shift at a time, His only goal is to score goals and to win, after all, his not getting any younger so time is wasting for him to make his mark in the history books
