Casey Fantobens
@Fantobens

One name you might not think would be this high up. But Casey Fantobens was a great goalie for Buffalo throughout his career. Drafted in the 1st round in S66, Fantobens became starting goalie the following season in S67. Super rare, especially for a goalie. However as he entered the S70’s, Fantobens and Buffalo were on a roll. STarting in S70, Carey had the worst season in his S70’s, only going 27-21-5 with a .892 SV%. That was a one season blip for Fantobens and it started a dominant streak in the S70’s.

Starting in S71, Fantobens broke out of the league for a 2nd time. First in S68 earning his first McBride Nom. Fantobens won 33 games in S71, with tying a career high of 5 shutouts, and a career high of .911 SV% that season. A great season indeed, earning him his 2nd McBride nomination and 2nd all star team. Not only that, but Fantobens helped march buffalo all the way to the finals and won the damn thing. Not only that, but Fantobens leveled up in the playoffs. Putting up a .919 SV% over the entire run, winning the Anton Razov for playoff MVP.

S72 he could continue to post great performanced. 33 wins, and a .901 SV%. S73 he would have the highest number of wins of his career, with 37 wins over the course of the season. However the next 2 seasons is probably what made him earn a spot so far up on this list, along with S71.

S74 would be another excellent season for Fantobens. Winning 34 games, 3 shutouts and a .908 SV%, Fantobens earned 3rd all star team, and another McBride nomination. Making up to 3 of his career, and 2nd of his decade. S75 would be a slightly weaker season, only 30 wins. A .904 SV% on a weaker Buffalo team as well, earned him his last McBride nomination, never winning an award for his career. The rest of his career was bumpy at best. Residing as a backup in S77, only playing 12 games, winning all 12 games and putting up a .929. That would be his best streak of play, however limited time.

His 254 wins over the decade was 7th best this decade. Well deserving of #40

Willow Soderberg-Snooks
@Reno

Snooks throughout the S70’s had an interesting career in my eyes. Going from an up and coming San Francisco team. Winning the Challenge Cup, then going to free agency and going to another Cup Contender in Los Angeles. However, on both teams, Snooks has shined as a defenseman. And a key contributor to the offense.

Starting in S73, Snooks will have her only season below 50 points as a rookie. Which that statement itself is insane. Scoring 42 points that season, helped with PP1 time her rookie season. Snooks was on the Rookie All Star Team that season. S74 he would have her first 60+ point season in her sophomore season. Scoring 18 goals and 63 points. Snooks was nominated for her first Scott Stevens nomination in her career.

S75 she would score a career high 21 goals, however with only 29 assists and 50 points, she regressed a little. But saying that in her 3rd season in a career is still crazy to say. S76 would be her best season for San Francisco, scoring a career high of 65 points, with a good 11-48 gva to takeaway ratio. Snooks was able to win her first Scott Stevens trophy of her young career. As well as 1st All Star team, and most Importantly her first Challenge Cup of her career. In the playoffs she shined as well. Getting nominated for the Anton Razov that season, scoring at a point per game pace with 21 points in 21 games. Well deserving of the Anton Razov nomination.

S76 would be another strong season from Snooks. Scoring 57 points that season, she followed it up again with a strong S78 season. Scoring 54 points that season, but most importantly starting to show some defense to her game. With 9 gva and 41 takeaways, and her first 150+ SB season, with 157. However, S78 would be her last season in San Francisco, moving to Los Angeles in S79 in free agency. There, she just continued with the strong play. Scoring 58 points, and a career high of 181 points.

A shorter career by this defenseman. However it has been a HOF career so far. Super impressed on the decade.

Binko Koivu
@goldenglutes

25th in the decade in scoring, with 768 points in 660 games played. Bink was one of the better Atlanta players during this decade. Originally starting off as a defenseman, he only played 1 season as a defenseman for Atlanta in the 70’s. Starting off in S70, producing 49 points as a defenseman which is pretty good for him. However in S71 he switched to being a winger for Atlanta, continuing to provide value for Atlanta. Scoring 75 & 86 points over the next 2 seasons. He was one of the top players for them during that time.

However the S73-S75 seasons would be his best of the decade. Scoring 105 points in S73, he was one of the top players in the league. Then in S74 he did it again. 35 goals and 69 assists for 104 points. Then finally in S75 would be his career high in goals with 41 goals and 105 points that season. Earning him 2nd All Star Team, in addition to his sole Awards win. Winning the Jeff Dar

After that Koivu got dealt to Minnesota for 2 seasons. Scoring 61 and 82 points. Then back to Atlanta for S78, scoring 62 points. Then finally to Hamilton for S79, for 39 points.

A big time scorer in the first half of the S70’s. Wonder how the 2nd half would have panned out if he stayed active and fought against regression.

Sir Devoir

@WildfireMicro

Another goalie on this list, Sir Devoir was a huge time player for a great Baltimore team during this decade. Devoir was a S66 goalie, first had a full season in S67 shortly after. However we will talk about S70 and onward. The first couple seasons of S70 started off bumpy. With Baltimore struggling to be a good team. S70 saw Devoir go 15-31-2 and a .893 SV%. And with S71 things got better, 24-21-4 with .888. For S72 the team turned it around, however Devoir failed to show up. 27-14-2 with a .890. Not so good not terrible.

For S73 however,  is when Devoir starts to get rolling. With a 28-16-3 record, he put a career high SV% of a .905.

S74 he repeats it again. 29-13-6 and a .905 SV%. S75 is just another solid season. 28-13-3 with a .900. On his final great season, he puts a career high in wins and SV%. Posting an insane .916 SV%, and 33-7-3 record. He won the John McBride award for best goalie, 1st All Star Team, Mike Honcho award for less goals allowed. Then the Richan award for breakout player of the year. Absolute peak of his career.

Then for S77 & S78 as the starts to be split more, he was able to get a good amount of wins, and retired at the end of the S78 season. Great S70 career, had a really good 5 season stretch.In the end being able to win the McBride and Honcho.

Emil Egli
@TheGreatToeJam

Another Edmonton, Emil Egli was a 5th OA pick of the S66 draft. First breaking into the SHL in S69, Egli’s S70 results would come soon after, as Edmonton quickly became a powerhouse in the early S70’s.

S70 Egli had a slow start, but a perfect two-way forward through and through. Got points, but also made sure to focus on having great defense. S70 saw Egli score 24 points and 107 shots blocked that season. Not bad for a sophomore season.
S71 & S72 saw him put down the building blocks for what his peak would look like as a top tier defenseman. Was put on the top PK unit, and 2nd PP unit. Egli was able to get back to back 37 point seasons. Then 168 and 210 SB seasons. A major upgrade and showed that Egli was able to do everything on the ice.

S73 is when Emil got his chance to show the SHL what he was able to do with the right tools. On PP1, Egli broke out to score 62 points that season. With 205 shots blocked and an insane 7-73 gva to takeaway ratio. Ontop of that, he was able to win his first and only Challenge cup of his career

S74 he was able to replicate his previous season. 13 goals, 499 assists for 62 points again. 6-61 ratio. As well as 214 shots blocked to cap off that season. For his hard work he was nominated for his first award, the Bojo Biscuit. For being a great defensive defenseman.

S75 he reached 60+ again with exactly 60 points. However this time it was good enough to get 1st All Star Team and winning the Scott Stevens award for best defenseman. He was also a little rat too, getting 70 PIMs this year to win the Turd.

After that season he was ultimately traded to Minnesota for 3 1sts. There he wasnt able to get the magic back. Taken off the 1st PP. Emil only scored 38,36, and 35 points over the last 3 seasons. He was also able to put up 200+ shots blocked over those last 2 seasons. Making 7 consecutive seasons of that.

A great career by a premier two way forward
