PHILADELPHIA, Pa – As the off season sets in, the Philadelphia Forge are preparing for the 81st season of the Simulation Hockey League. The draft is not too far away. Returning veterans are signing new contracts. And most importantly, training camp is set to begin, where players can really hone in their skills while they compete for spots on the roster.
We met up with forward Leonard Wood, who’s entering his 5th season in the league in S81. He is currently battling influenza. It’s a battle that he’s not currently winning, just like his playoff battle with Toronto last season. We decided we would capitalize on his current vulnerability in an attempt to get some controversial quotes for you dear readers to be shocked over. The following is the interview that took place in his Philadelphia home. Hey, Woody. Can I call you Woody? Sure. Alright. Thanks for having this interview with me. You had an outstanding season in S81. Truly, it was a breakout year with 30 goals, assists for a total of 70 points. This has been the highest point total of your young career thus far, one that put you over 200 career points. Despite that extraordinary career high for you, you were still 5th in scoring on the Forge. How do you feel? I feel pretty miserable. In a year coming off of a Challenge Cup Finals trip in S79, the Philadelphia Forge were expected to win it all this season. Instead, the Forge struggled in the regular season, placing 4th in the Atlantic Division. On top of that, the Toronto North Stars knocked your team out of the playoffs in the 2nd round after they went on a little miracle run from beating New England in four straight overtime wins. Do you feel any way responsible to how your team performed in the playoffs? Is there anything you’d do differently? My body aches. That is understandable. I can imagine that any time you lose in seven games in the playoffs, it gives you the chills and body aches. Will you use that aching feeling to fuel your competitive fire going into this upcoming season? No, I just kind of want to get over this. I like that. You just want to get over it and move on to the next season. Short memory, right? Sure. Changing to a lighter topic, where did you get the nickname Woody from? Is it something your parents called you from an early age? Your friends, perhaps? Maybe from former teammates or coaches? I’m interested to where that nickname came from and how did it stick? I don’t know. Back to hockey, who do you think the Philadelphia Forge will draft in the upcoming draft? You’d have to ask management. I don’t really make those decisions. Do you think its the right call to knowingly expose a reporter to a highly infectious disease such as influenza? Hey man, you’re the one who insisted on interviewing me. Would you expect any blow back on Chirper if you did indeed infect said reporter with the flu? Probably. I just feel so cold… Did you get your flu shot? I’ve been immunized. Woody, I want to thank you for sitting down on this interview with me. Hopefully you get some rest now. Good luck this season! Thank you!
