S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey Due: Sunday, February 16th @ 11:59 PM PST

option 1: Cheddar trains with her family during the off-season, obviously! She's very lucky to have multiple siblings who play hockey, two dads who played professionally, one of whom runs off-season camps in Sweden, so she's never really experienced an off-season where she wasn't doing something with the rest of her family. Hockey is just what the Söderberg-Tremblay family do, and it's in their blood. When they take vacations, they look to see if there are cool places to skate nearby; local arenas, even local outdoor areas if it's somewhere with year-round cold, or somewhere in the southern hemisphere. They really focus in during the summer, though, and Cheddar trains with her dad Gunnar extensively. She also makes sure to change things up here and there, though; when Gunnar played, he was a forward, and Cheddar is a shutdown defender so she gets advice from other places as well, especially her older cousin Willow, who is one of the best defenders in the SHL.

During the offseason, Yuri Boyka III, likes to train away from his team camp. This is mainly because he goes back to his home country of Russia, and trains martial arts with his family. This not only keeps his physical abilities in form but also keeps his mind in check. It builds mental fortitude as martial arts is a test of discipline. It tests you in ways you cannot believe and it is basically a real life chess. You need to always be few moves ahead of your opponents and thus anticipation is something that comes naturally with martial arts. Since his dad is an extreme martial artist, they train super hard. A lot of the time, the training will be done in the mountains in Russia, where your body deals with extreme temperatures. This is also a test of mental fortitude since many will give up before they even begin. This is why Yuri Boyka III is built like a tiger. He is muscular , yet agile and is able to properly skate on the ice with ease.

Chuck Lumbermouth takes offseason training very seriously. He loves hockey so leaving it behind in the offseason isn't an option for him. He has been training with his linemates from Yukon for his first few seasons, but as he is approaching his final season in the SMJHL its time for him to start getting his feet wet with some of the coaching options available to him in Winnipeg's system. Chuck has been focusing on his skating and his shot primarily since those are his bread and butter, but his game is elevated by better hands and puck possession, so he always leaves time for those as well. He mostly focuses on the offensive side of things, but knows he more than likely projects as a depth piece in the SHL, so this season he has started to try and refine his defensive game as well. Time will tell how that approach works for him. (156 words)

Written Option 2

The offseason for Lyle Odelein IV is typically spent with his family. Lyle is not in a relationship with anyone right now, so that family is typical his father, Lyle Odelein III and his grandfather, Lyle Odelein Jr., and the one and only, the original Lyle, Lyle Odelein. They spend most of their time talking about or playing hockey, so it is something that the youngest Lyle really appreciates, since he is the only one still actively playing hockey and being able to learn from his family members is huge. They spend time helping Lyle with his game since they all want to see him succeed at the highest level. They want to help get Lyle to a position that he can really help the New Orleans Specters win a Challenge Cup. Going into his third season in the SHL, they all hope he continues to take the steps forward he needs to to become that player. The Odeleins feel they all had a great offseason and none of them can wait for the season to kick off.

Sitting at the gate waiting to board, Barcus Juneau tries to stop thinking about the last few days. Losing to Quebec in the semis for a second year in a row was hard. Better to think about what happens in the next few days: a trip back home to see family and friends.

His parents Jerome and Mia will be happy to see him, of course, as always. It's a long way from west-end Toronto to Anchorage; they don't make it out to see him very often, and the closest J city is still a four-hour drive away.

It's been even longer since he's seen Gutty and Frank. Those guys are both off at school now, and it's hit and miss whether they'll even make it back home during the summer. Gutty says his thing with his girl is getting pretty serious. Barcus isn't sure if he's jealous.

There is one face that Barcus will miss this summer: the little bundle of whiskers that answers to "Deke". He wishes he could take her with him, but the traveling just doesn't make sense, especially for a cat that young. Looking at the planes taxiing toward the runway, he just hopes she remembers him when he gets back.

Written Option 1:

Off season always is a welcome time frame every season. It absolutely serves as a time to not just better your personal game, but to train a bit more consistently to get ready for pre season with your teammates. Brodir typically travels out to Toronto to meet with Bender Junior as Junior serves as his mentor during the off-season. Both players carry some of the same characteristics as strong scorers. Bender made a habit of routine in the gym to build the strength that equated to monstrous point totals during his time in the SMJHL. This off-season saw Brodir really focus in on his positioning, offensive read and agility. Between the typical pasta diet and morning runs, Brodir and Bender continue to push towards finishing a scoring career that was taken away from Bender when he switched to defense in Toronto.

Ubba Lodbrok, center for the Philadelphia Forge of the Eastern Confernce in the SImulation Hockey League, formerly played for the Anchorage Armada of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League, and a current representative of the Finnish National Team, has made it so he travels a lot during the summer but still gets his reps in. No matter where he goes he gets a work out in. He generally travels to places to work out with friends, teammates, former teammates, and even some rivals in the league. He does this because he knows that he can learn something from everyone and doesn't want to find himself trailing behind the rest of the league. this also gives him an opportunity to talk to other players about their regiments and how their teams operate, you know, incase there's ever a time where he doesn't want to play for his current team(s). What does he find though? All other skaters aren't anywhere near as dedicated as he is, nor are their teams they play for.

Agent Tesla: Dave is forced to continue training to the best of his abilities during the offseason. Historically he has trained alone for the most part as I thought it best to overwork him in private, but given this is his last hurrah I have allowed him to train with his current and former teammates. He and I have made a surprising number of connections in this league and so I have seen to it he gets to share the ice with as many of his friends this offseason as possible to make sure he has no regrets when all is said and done. It has been a bit tough to arrange, but thanks to my planeswalking we have seen to it that all the players that mutually wanted to skate with him one last time got the opportunity.

Far as rinks go we hired a nice young lady from Arendelle to whip us up one custom just for this. While in the past they were forced to work themselves to death over and over again constantly being revived by my eldritch powers this season we have taken a far more leisurely approach allowing him to enjoy his time with his friends. Age has caught up to him at this point and no amount of dark magic can change that so I would rather he at least be happy even if he is going to be incompetent.

Sunrise has a large family back home, counting to around fifteen siblings or so, most with different ages. Sunrise is the third oldest son, being behind Justice (the oldest son, a farmer back home) and Justine (his twin, she is currently a hairdresser in Amsterdam) by around three years. He was then followed by Lucille (named after the actress, currently part of an acting troupe in Berlin) and Henry (plays for the reserves of the village's soccer team), both two years younger than him. After that, came Flora (who is currently trying to convince her father to let her take a degree in law, to her father's annoyance), Fauna (her twin, unsurprisingly a vet) and Willian (joined the local parish), an additional year younger.

The rest of the family that follows are Zebekiah (15, has an interest on science like Sunrise), Sheva (13, named after an Ukrainian footballer, disappointingly wants to play baseball for a living), Monica (13, surprisingly nicer than the Friends' character she was named after), Draco Malfoy (12, named after a bet), Nina (10, got her name picked by Justice from playing Tekken, apparently), Anna (10, got named that just to match her twin) and finally Pip (5, an astute genius for his age's standards). They also adopted Xiaoyu (13), Vladislav (11), Leno (14) and Bashir (9) as refugees or, in Xiaoyu's case, to follow Chinese rules at the time regarding children.

When asked why she had that many kids, his mother Gloria, replied that "your father really calmed down when we got that TV set, you see".

1:

Mr. Brayden Point likes to train alone and with others. There is something special about being by yourself and going on a walk that is straight magic. At the same time in the great sport of hockey you need people to be able to have a proper scrimmage. So it make sense that Brayden Point stays in touch with others in Tampa to rent out a ring in Brandon or Tampa area depending on which has the space. These trainings are some of his favorite as he can try out new tricks and not have the pressure of general manager DK breathing down his throat (if you read this you are what makes Tampa awesome!!) a group of 10 close players will rent out the ring and they already have a deal with Tampa so the cost is covered by the teams fund and cost nothing to the players. When Brayden takes a trip back home he follows up with some players who play for the Canada nationals and will spend some time training hockey youth. Training others is a great way to help slow down and refocus on what you know. Brayden is a great trainer for sure and it is also one of his favorite times of the year!

After a long summer off-season of surfing in the South Pacific, Alexi Piastri found himself in Manhattan Beach adjusting to being back on the other side of the world. Alexi decided that it would probably be a good idea to head to the rink and get back on skates before training camp started. When he got there, he was happy to see that he wasn't the only player there. Reed Kobo & Niclas Wastlund were taking shots on BASE PACK. Everyone was looking like they were a lot more up to speed than Piastri was, so this would be a good opportunity for him to get his timing back. Never hurts to get warmed up by practicing with a couple of legends like Kobo and BP. Wastlund has quite the SHL pedigree as well, so overall this was a very solid group. They got to talking a bit and turned out that Wastlund and Kobo were actually both free agents. Toronto had traded pretty much everyone from the team that nearly shocked the SHL world by making the Finals, so Alexi was going to need some linemates. Next day the North Stars had two new forwards and a much improved top 6 forward group.

Written Option 2:
Besides training in the off-season, an equally important part of how Walbilly Koala spends his time is with his family. Walbilly Koala has not met his biological parents. He assumes they are somewhere in the wilds of Australia, where they are normal koalas. But he does love his adoptive family, who saved him from animal poachers. Walbilly’s last name, Koala, was a name he changed after being recruited to the big leagues of hockey to stand out. The last name of his adoptive family is the Millers. So before he became a hockey pro, he was known as Walbilly Miller. Walbilly is a unique name his parents gave him, but Koala stands out more than Miller. His parents are named Francine and Hubert Miller. He is their only child. He wonders what it would’ve been like to have a sibling, especially a human one, but there’s still time for him to have one since his parents adopted him when they were young. He’ll spend his time fondly watching trash reality TV with them during the off-season. (177 words)
