S81 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview Due: Sunday, February 23rd @ 11:59 PM PST
#31

The preseason action for the Nevada Battleborn has come and gone. The games offered some insight into what the team will look like for the coming regular season play. The team had its struggles during the preseason but struggles early on are to be expected given the number of new players on this team, especially on the defense. Veteran blueliner Arvinder Singh will be expected to lead the defense for the Battleborn and shepherd along the rookies on the back end. Arvinder did this during the preseason leading by example as well as leading the defense on the score sheet with 4 points in 7 preseason games.Of course no team will go far in the SMJHL, or any other league, without solid goaltending. To fill that role the Battleborn will look to veteran net minder Jack as well as their captain Claude L'Castor, both in their 2nd season.Up front the Battleborn will be looking to their best offensive forwards Drew McIntyre, Wednesy Shrinetime & Aurora Borealis who are a threat to score everytime time they are on the ice at even strength or with the man advantage. Those three players led the team offensively in the preseason and I would expect that to continue in the regular season.

We're looking forward to pushing to the playoffs, maybe the championship at the current rate we're heading. While it's a possibility, I believe both Goalies are at the steering wheel for this. That includes me, Yuri Satoshi, and Jon-Isaac Forty-One. Goalies ultimately determine how far a team can go into a playoff, even championships. Due to that, goalies are always one of the most important positions. On the side of offense, you got David Corrigan, currently the league's leading scorer. Every good team needs a bonafide gunslinger, who can get to the otherside and put the puck in the goal. Both sides, offense and defense needs to work together and ultimately decide on how to operate. And at this time, both are doing good. Both Goalies, Jon-Isaac & Yuri Satoshi (Rookie) are playing well enough, Isaac is trailing behind Yuri on almost every statistic, but that doesn't mean he's doing badly. He's going on his future games, playing at the top of the Goalie position. Yuri Satoshi, at a rookie level is performing better than even I suspected, being top 10 on multiple categories within 3 starts at the moment. Everyone is playing well, and working together. I think ultimately, this team can get places.

The Ottawa Highlanders have started off very well. At the time of writing, were 6-3. I think one of the players crucial to our success is Hotdog Lunch, he's our captain and our best forward. His doing well will not only help us win but inspire the team to strive to be better. His leadership is crucial to a successful season. Another important player is our star Center and alternate captain Leo Carlsson. His leadership along with his skills make him a player that's crucial to our success. He's a solid playmaker and his passing ability will be crucial for our success. The final player I think is really crucial is our starting goalie Jeff Kirkstone III. He's played really well so far, being responsible for four of our six wins, however he's let in a lot of goals. 22 so far in 6 games. Thats not entirely his responsibility, our defense needs to step up but he makes the big saves when it matters. Hopefully, I can step in and help the defense out for a season and help him out a ton.

Since I am lazy and decided to write this on Thursday, we are already 4 sims into the season! Before tho, I was optimistic about the coming season for Kelowna. We have a young team of good rookies that aren't even close to their full J potential yet, but I know we had a solid team. But now, 4 sims into the Regular Season and the Knights are second in the entire league, with 3 games in hand on first place Quebec. Sitting with 10 wins and 2 losses, Quebec is at 11 wins and 4 losses. As for Bartholomew and his start, I couldn't be happier. 12 games, 12 points, with one goal and 11 assists. A solid rookie start in my eyes. But now realizing that this team right now has a shot at being the best team in the league, and that we will only get better for many seasons. I believe this team can win the cup this season, and maybe the 2 after....

The Walleye are coming into the season with high hopes of surpassing where they were last season. The expectation is not to be a playoff winner but to contend and get in the top half of the standings. Our pre-season was quite succesful going 5-2. Pasta the Turtle is someone I am keeping my eye out for this year, as his dedication to the game on and off the ice has motivated our team to train hard and give it everything we got in each and every game and practice. Looks like a steal from teh draft and our team is very excited to have them. Finally, I'd also like to acknowledge Kristaps Skalbergs who has been very active in the locker room and developing well with the Walleye, a player that could potentially step up in big moments this season and help the team take off for a wonderful season.

Anchorage looks to be in a good spot going into the regular season. In preseason we went 5-2, with both of our goalies with a save percentage over .900. Both of our goalies Johnny Hockey and Linus Ully will be a big factor in us going far this season. On defense Dieter Fruhstuck will be pivotal to keeping shots on goal down. With him shutting down shooting it will give our offense a chance to score. On the offensive side Jay Dub and rookie Mathew Pano will be our keys to getting goals. With both of them anchoring our first line on the wings it will be our key to the post-season. With the new core of rookies, we have picked up this season we are building to have a solid regular season with playoff hopes. Will we go all the way, the Clevelander in me is saying this is our year, but I don’t think we have the man power to go all the way. We will go far but ultimately fall just short.

Why was i drafted here. Anchorage is such a good team so it doesn't make sense i would get picked up. We looked so good in the pre season. We were just smoking teams. It is insane to believe i was a first round pick. But despite that we do have some pretty good players. JDUBS is a freaking beast dude. Power foward. This man is just magnetized to the net. He's an all around good guy in the LR and a great player. Next We have Luminosity. What a great guy overall in the LR. Hes always there to chat and keeps the team together. He's always making everyone laugh and he gives it his all on the ice. Next We have Patrick. Why did we ever draft this guy. He's so rude to me. I think we should trade him, so that's why I think Figgy is the most crucial part of this team. Because he's the only one who can trade Patrick off this team.

The Walleye's season tumbled out of the gate but a market correction is in the works. Not to toot my own horn or anything but Boucher is sitting at 16 points in 16 games and is performing above my initial expectations. I thought I would score but maybe not this quick. Tom O'Donnell at 22 points already is nice and is going to be a key part if we are to slingshot up the standings. Finally our net minders Bourder and Ryan need to weather the onslaught they will see due to the high scoring amount in these leagues. If they can limit the opponents scoring output to 2-3 goals a night I believe our offense can produce around 4 goals a game. Am I delusional? No... But you're right.. We could probably produce 6 goals a game. Wink But all in all, we sit at 11 and are coming into our own chemistry and line wise. Lets keep rolling Walleye and get a cup!

The Carolina Kraken had an alarming start to the season. They looked like shadows of their former selves, and fans were notably concerned.
However, after a brief period of panic, it seems the team was just trying out some new things, see what worked and what didn't.
Now that it appears that the train is back on the tracks, let's point out 3 players who will be keys to the Kraken's continued success.
1. Kim Chaewon @JamesT
currently the team leader in points, Kim has already taken off as the top playmaker on the squad, boasting of 17 assists in 18 games.
2. Walbilly Koala @Noruoficeland - linemate of Kim, Walbilly is a jack of all trades as far as offense is concerned. Will they score a goal? Will they pass? Nobody knows, least of all the opponent's goalie.
3. Chuck Stewart @ghamss - with 21 takeaways and only 3 giveaways, what else can be said of the defensive stud? When he's on the ice, things usually go the Kraken's way.

At the time of writing, the Colorado Raptors are 16 games into the season.  Colorado sits at 9-7, good for 4th out of 8 in the Southern Conference of the SMJHL.  The team has had it’s ups and downs, including both blowout wins and blowout losses.  The Raptors feel good about the direction of the team, with a +5 goal differential and 7-3 record at home.

Rookie Wilhelm Seider has been a standout for the Raptors.  In his 16 games, he has 8 goals and 8 assists – tie for first among all S82 Rookies.  All of his points have come at 5v5 and the Raptors have been rewarded for selecting him in the first round.

Wilhelm Seider has also been doing interesting humanitarian work in trying to restore the soul of Evil Jordan Humphries (@Gwdjohnson).  It has been a mixed bag of results, with Evil Jordan playing some good team hockey at times (2 goals and 11 assists as of writing), while also taking some purely evil penalties.  The most recent game Humphries received a 2 minute Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty for attempted biting which he followed up with a 5 minute major for Boarding – all in the first period.  Seider is determined to snuff out this Jekyll and Hyde like behavior, but it will be a long road ahead.

alright so i have been told by a person who is quite involved with the running of the team and is consequently or maybe tangentially (it's an either or but maybe it's both i'm unsure about this one to be honest about it) quite knowledgeable about the team that the detroit falcons of the simulation major junior hockey league are currently a rebuilding team in that they have just started restocking the team with picks and prospects (perhaps they traded some gizmos and gadgets for those picks and prospects am i right @Jepox) so the team is in a bit of a lull before they end up being good on the ice (in the simulation). i have heard however that vasher summers @lunaripcole is already quite good likely as a result of @hotdog and @micool132 drafting him and also from learning things under jiggle e @zeagle1 and i think thurston bull and twinkle toes will be good players as well for the falcons in due time once they have grown to their full potential yeah looking good guys

Spirits are high in the Timber organization heading into the upcoming SMJHL season. The team is on an upward trajectory thanks to a variety of draft classes assembling together to form a solid foundation both offensively and defensively. With a new management team holding the reins, everyone in the locker room is feeling great about our chances at climbing the mountain and winning the championship by the end of the season. Many influential players will emerge as times goes on and the season progresses, but as things currently stand I am going to highlight the team's three centermen. Their names are Jose Salcedo, Scott Fortune, and Anthony Louchard. The reason these three are among the most impactful players on the Timber this season is because of the position they plan and the associated skillset required. All of them win more of their faceoffs than they lose, while being defensively responsible and producing offensively simulatenously.
