You always want to dethrone the champion. The answer to our current rival the Armada would have to select Quebec City. They have yet to face off this year. In this sim week they will faceoff back to back. Quebec City knocking the Armada out of the playoffs last year definitely has Anchorage out seeking revenge. You would think it would be just the veterans pushing the rivalry with Quebec City but most of the Armada rookies are chomping at the bit to show the Citedels why they will regret lining up vs Anchorage.
When asked what team Patrick Rail looks forward to beating the most he had this to say: "Quebec City Citedels, easy. To be the best you have to beat the best and right now, (them) going back to back, makes them the team you want to dethrone." "When we play them this week we want to show them what they are in for if and when we face them in the postseason." ![]() Registered Posting Freak
For this season, deep team history doesn’t matter. What matters is what’s in front of us here and now. And in this season, the Maine Timber are trying to go all out Philadelphia Eagles mode and stop a three peat. Let’s be real, nobody outside of Quebec wants to see them win again. So why not us? Let’s be the ones to stop it. We’ve already beaten them twice this year which I’m pleasantly surprised about, but the job is not done. We need to keep getting stronger so we are ready for the playoffs. That’s where the cream rises to the top. Every time we face off against QCC all eyes will be on the television for hockey fans everywhere. We need to make sure that we show up, do our jobs and emerge victorious, whether it’s a week one matchup or an intense playoff round battle!

I'd say that the Kelowna Knights' biggest rival this season are the Newfoundland Berserkers. They currently sit at first in the Northern Conference of the SMJHL (and the entire league), two points ahead of the Knights. We know that they have offensive and defensive prowess, but we believe that the depth of our lineup will allow us to win against them when we see them throughout the season and during the play-offs. We have not faced them yet, but we are scheduled to play three games against them within the next three weeks. The Berserkers don' know what's coming and there's nothing their lineup can do to beat us. We will make sure to lockdown players like Badger Hennessey from being able to setup plays in our end of the rink, and we will also absolutely abuse Rosenthal in net. Crowd the crease and just tire him out.

Playing for a team without an apparent rival, Ryan Dino-Nugget Hopkins has made it his vendetta to play against Barfolomew Aintokallio Loserquavis (or however it's spelled) and the Kelowna Knights team as hard as possible, vowing to the Kraken locker room that he'll crush 'Barty' and score a hattrick when the teams play on 20/12, attempting to turn the Knights/Kraken into a true, cold-blooded rivalry. The Kraken players have rallied with this personal beef, and the electric lead up to a matchup with the third overall team might be exactly what the Kraken need to go on a strong run, as they have started the season middle of the pack.
When interviewed following their 4-0 win over St. Louis, and asked if he considers the Scarecrows as a rival, RDNH had this to say: "DET and STL are definitely up there, but the one team that really gets my blood up is Kelowna. The GM may want to consider resigning after taking Barf 6th overall; guy is a plug with cement blocks for feet, and I'm going to knock him into the parking lot in our next game". @jaypc8237 ![]() ![]() Registered Member
I feel like this question is completely open to interpretation, and I'm a fan of that. I've got a list of rivals, all for various reasons!
-@thewhovian obviously a rival, as she is my significant other and I need to be better than here. Nothing better than some friendly competition between partners. -@Toofpete from co-GMS to on ice rivals? This is a tale as old as time, two friends, pitted against each other to determine who is the best of the best (it's Toofpete, duh) -@baz MY MOST HATED RIVAL Beyond that, definitely a list written done Amon-Ra style of all the teams that passed on me in the J draft. Admittedly, that list is only *checks notes* 4 teams, but when you want to be first overall and you get passed up, you take these things personally (obviously this is a joke, but it is a good motivator) In order, I think I'd list them in the following order: 1) Great Falls 2) St. Louis 3) Detroit 4) Thunder Bay All great teams, but they all passed on Passarelli. Such a shame. From a VAN perspective though, I think our biggest rivals are everyone from our own conference, namely QCC and Kelowna. But, I also think that that's just a case of "to be the best, you have to beat the best". And not too toot our own Whaler horn too much, but we did just sweep QCC last week in a back to back, so hopefully that holds up moving forward. ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Senior Member
You had me at branding antagonism... The Vancouver W-slurs are long long overdue for a rebrand. The glorification of mammalian murder is so gauche. No amount of rationalization will change the fact that using the title of the oppressors as a title of empowerment is appropriate. The fix is very easy - as simple as dropping the "r" in the team name. The amount of resistance to this idea is baffling, a clear display of counterwill towards the progressive idea of cetacean inclusion. Usually it is not this hard to gather good will for the charismatic megafauna but in the instance of several iterations of Vancouver leadership, the courage for such change has been lacking. This has absolutely nothing with Vancouver beating Newfoundland in the finals in my last year in the J, I assure you. I am approaching this with the clear mind and pure soul of an animal activist, and will never relent until Vancouver has a new name.

This week, Harland Sanders is hoping his team can take revenge on the Ottawa Highlanders. Nevada faces Ottawa three times in the next ten games. These teams have already met twice this season, and neither contest was particularly close. Facing a 6-2 and 7-2 loss each time made for a sour introduction to the league, leading to Harland setting his sights on the Highlanders impressive goaltending tandem. Whoever is in the net the next time they meet, Harland Sanders will seek to find the gaps and light the lamp.
The Quebec City Citadelles is another team on the schedule this week. Sanders called QCC out by name in his post-draft presser, so there may still be a little animosity there. Personal feelings aside, the Battleborn have yet to play the Citadelles this season, so Sanders is no doubt eager to test his mettle on the reigning champs. If that wasn't incentive enough, it seems that other squads have found gaps in the armor. Quebec City currently sits at 5th in the league with an even goal differential and Sanders would love to add a few to the goals against column. ![]() Sig by RainDelay ![]() ![]() Registered Member

In terms of teams rivalry I believe that vote would have to go to the Maine Timber. Looking at previous year’s playoffs, if I reading correctly the Timbers have chopped the Scarecrows out of 4 of the last 5 on their own between rounds one and two. When that happens, regardless of how the fans feel that’s got to build some sort of animosity towards them from an organizational standpoint of things so the Scarecrows will seek to prevent that from happening (if they can turn the ship around to even be worthy opponents) this year and the coming years as the teams young core builds up TPE to support the veteran players before they depart.
From a player perspectives I’m a pretty easy goin lad, so don’t really hold resentment towards anyone who didn’t draft me especially since I was chosen WAY before I expected but a fun little focus on beating that singular team (Detroit) would be fun to have an I’ll look forward to those games. ![]() Registered Senior Member
I think that originally, when Ottawa entered the league there was a little bit of a rivalry with the other expansion team, the San Diego Tidal. Obviously, both of these teams are trying their best to out fox the other when it comes to team building, and show that their gms got it right in the expansion draft and early building phases. It's only natural and something you see in sports in real life a lot. I remember when (I'm old) the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Carolina Panthers both came into the NFL and there was a similar feeling. In fact both teams ended up being pretty good pretty quickly.
As time has gone on though, it seems that the real rivalry is between us and Maine. In 4 of the last 5 seasons we have met up with them in the playoffs for some brutal battles. The first time Ottawa prevailed in a semi-final series that went 6 games, but since then it's been all Maine knocking us out 3 of the last 4 seasons. Hopefully we'll get the better of them this year! ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Member
Given that i have just entered the league, I am not extremely knowledgeable about the rivalries that are present, not even for the Battleborn for which I play on. However, I have been informed that the game recognizes Anchorage as our rival. One might say that this is silly, as they are in an entirely different conference. This ignores why they are in another conference, this reason not being something ridiculous such as "Location" or "Common Sense" but because they are scared of us. They are scared to come on down to Nevada and play us. They are scared to play us as they will melt upon going south of the 54th parallel north. It is for this reason that they are in separate from us. We however, do not have the same issue. We will drag their dinky Armada across the American Dessert and leave it in the dust like we do their team.

I’m gonna say Kelowna’s rivals are the Quebec City Citadelles. These two teams have had their fair share of meetings in the playoffs over the past five years with both teams winning series. Quebec is the reigning champions and the Knights are looking to take that title away. The season series is split 1-1 with the next game a few days out.
These two teams always seem to go back and forth and it will be interesting to see if either one can start to turn the matchup in their favour. Quebec has a strong lineup again this year, but Kelowna has had a surprisingly strong start to the season and sits tied in points with four games in hand.. Chances are the path to the title is going to take Kelowna through Quebec and that’s going to be exciting hockey for everyone. East vs West, French vs English, an All Canadian battle, this matchup has everything you want in a rivalry. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SMJHL GM Member |
