S81 SMJHL PT #2 - Rivalry Week Due: Sunday, March 2nd @ 11:59 PM PST
#16

Due to the proximity between Quebec City and Thunder Bay, I would have to say that the Citadelles are probably the biggest rivals of the Walleye. While others want the distinction of being the ones to take down the champs, this rivalry is more a product of just how close to each other the teams are, Most great rivalries come from close proximity between teams, but also need both teams to be of similar strength to be interesting. Now, Silver has a few players and teams he has a rivalry with: Eric Sosa and the St. Louis Scarecrows, Greg Evil and the Quebec City Citadelles (more than just the team rivalry mentioned), Doctor Wad and the Vancouver Whalers, and Tyler Bodega and the Great Falls Grizzlies. He knows all four of these players, who all entered the league around the same time he did, from his past. He met these people over a shared love of hockey, and would love to play with them at some point, but won't let his feelings get in the way when they meet on the ice.

They aren’t necessarily my teams rivals, but they are my rivals. The Yukon Malamutes. I have a long history with the malamutes since they were my first team for my first player. I have tons of friends that on the malamutes so I think it’s a fun, friendly rivalry I have with them. I especially would love to destroy Peyton. My teams real rivals though, I would consider to be the San Diego tidal. They came into the league at the same time as us in the expansion, and they are in the same division as us. Both teams are currently locked into a battle for #1 in the division. San Diego barely holds the title as #1 right now even though we both have 26 points right now. I think Ottawa has a stronger team though and I think we’ll end up on top in the end, edging out San Diego for the Conference title.

Definitely the San Diego Tidal. Currently, the Tidal and the Highlanders are neck in neck for the top spot in the southern conference. the two teams already met once this season and it was a banger, with Ottawa coming out on top with 5 goals to 1. At the moment this article was published, the Highlanders and Tidal are tied in the top spot with 26 points apiece, although Ottawa has a game over the Tidal. I am really looking forward to the next meeting between these two teams as it will likely determine ALOT.

Another team that I'm sure everyone wants to see go down is the Quebec City Citadels. most teams are trying their very best to stop the potential three-peat. the one time the Highlanders have played the Citadels, the Citadels definitely came out on top. The citadels lead the league with an impressive 28 points (at the time this article was published)

Historically the Kelowna Knights have had many different rivalries, but do rivalries matter if its an old one and not as intense anymore? No. So lets talk about the rivalries that Kelowna is developing this season so far. The first one is against the Quebec City Citadelles, and that one is pretty obvious. Kelowna and Quebec City are fighting tooth and nail in the standings right now, being neck and neck, but its not only for the overall league standings, but for the Conference Title too. The second one is the Vancouver Whalers, a team that still gets scrappy when we meet (@Tmoney6996 Sir Bart is coming for you). This one roots back more recent, 2-3 seasons ago they both rebuilt at the same team, conference battlers going for the 1st OA, and in the end it was a hard fought battle. Now its the battle of who will prove to made the better picks and will have the successful rebuild. Now Sir Bart is doing everything he can to make Kelowna be a good winning team!

Definitely a personal rivalry with Vancouver, with them passing over me in the draft TWICE despite stating they really wanted me, this season is about revenge and everything they could've had.  Not a week later they pick up one of my referrals off of waivers, just to add salt to the wound.  Every time we hang out to watch the streams there's always an eye on the standings.  Being in the same conference brings even more excitement.  Not being able to live down the two losses while holding back, the Owls will be soaring the rest of the season, with a personal vendetta to bounce back and crush some Whalers.  Having minor rivalries with Thunder Bay, St Louis, and Great Falls with friends over there too makes almost every match day exciting to watch smackdowns happen.  If this season is the beginning of something bigger, the next 3 seasons in the SMJHL are gonna be full of fireworks!

The Detroit's long rival stands between them and St. Louis! The feud has been ongoing for several seasons BUT the rivalry right now is honestly kind of stale. So in saying that, maybe we need to find a new team to pick on?

The Falcons are looking for a rivalry mate. We have a lovely upcoming team with many rookies as well as some outstanding team veterans that a re ready to rock your boat. We are a team at the bottom but fighitng for wins so we are a great team to get under your skin! John Gibson is ready to steal away games with fantastic saves against your star players so you can complain about getting Goalie'd. We are ready to Goalie you. Quazon Brosonchi is ready to sneak past your defense a lead his team to victory as the current team points winner and goal scorer. And there are a slew of rookies ready to surprise you at any given point and time!

Apply to be a Detroit Falcons rival by DMing me "birds suck" which will initiate the Rivalry sequence! We look forward to being your rival in the very near future!

I think for the Nevada Battleborn our biggest rival is QCC for the soul fact that they are the best. They are what we want to be next season. We have a ton of young talent that wants to win and wants to be good long term. We want to replicate the same success they are having now in the future. It also doesnt helps that QCC has kicked out butts every time we have played them. We have really good goalies who just get pelted when we play them. They never seem to lose their edge they are on fire from the start of the game to the last minute. Its tough to play them but at the same time its a motivator.  They make us wanted to get back as individuals and as a team, after our last game against the all of us newbies hopped in the chat to talk about what we could change up in our builds to better mold together. They are a tough team that makes other team work harder.

If I had to say what team is rivaling ours I'd have to pick out Thunder Bay for 2 reasons the first one being simple that being that they are ahead of us on the table, simple is simple as. Now the 2nd reason is personal In the rookie class there is this kid named Silver Tarandas, now let me tell you something about this guy, we go waaaaaay back! back to the days of youth hockey, we used to be best of friends, go out to play put put with the boys, see a movie or play some games, ya know the usual kid stuff. But that all ended when it came to when we played against each other in high school. I played for the Villa Vikings and he played for the Philly Cobras, our friendship ended when he not only dropped a hattrick on my head but also pushed me off after the game when I went to congratulate him. I will never forget this and therefore where ever he goes, I will rival until I can drop a hattrick of my own whether it be assists or goals I will personally be there for his downfall.

(of course all is in good jest, building a fun rivalry between irl friends ;3 @SilverBlitzenAG)

Okay… let us step aside I am a Kelowna Knight for a minute. I want to talk about a rival who has since died after my GM days. The best rivalry was St. Louis Scarecrows vs. the Detroit Falcons. I had the pleasure being on both ends of this rivalry. When I was a brand new user to this site, I got drafted in the 5th round to the Detroit Falcons. Where I learned about how much hate there is between St. Louis and Detroit. Stinky Crows and Stinky Falcons. If your ever in Detroit Locker Room please look through the emoji list and you will find an emoji named scare_poo… it was made for me to remember the rivalry between Detroit and St. Louis. In St. Louis we had a very bright red poop emoji that was named falcons… But unfortunately this emoji is no longer there and the rivalry will be forever gone and forgotten forever. But it was real and the old St. Louis and Detroit users will tell you how great this rivalry really was.

So the thing with the Walleye is, we're a fairly new team. Ok, technically, we were the Regina Elk before, so we have been around for a little bit - but the move to Thunder Bay was only a few seasons ago. On top of that, so far in our time in Thunder Bay we have not had all that much success in the postseason. Because of all of this, we haven't really had a chance to develop much of a proper rivalry with any of the other teams. We haven't really had a team that we've had repeated intense encounters with, or anything of that sort. Now, if I had to pick out a rival team for us - I would probably go with Detroit, simply because of geography. Detroit is, by far, the closest team to us (both Ottawa and St. Louis are about 200 kilometers further). They are also the only other SMJHL team in the Great Lakes region. Sure, they may technically be in a different country, and they're still about 800 kilometers away, but it's the closest we've got, so every time we play them there's a nice little traveling contingent of Walleye fans that come along to support us. It always makes for a fun atmosphere in the arena.

Everyone wants to take down the reigning champion. For the Armada, that means setting their sights on Quebec City. The two teams have yet to clash this season, but that will change in this simulated week, where they'll face off in back-to-back games. After Quebec City eliminated the Armada from the playoffs last year, Anchorage is hungry for revenge. While you’d expect the veterans to be driving this rivalry, even the Armada rookies are eager to prove to the Citadels that they’ll regret stepping onto the ice against Anchorage.

When asked which team he’s most excited to beat, Patrick Rail didn’t hesitate: "Quebec City Citadels, easy. To be the best, you have to beat the best, and with them going back-to-back, they’re the team we need to dethrone." He added, "When we play them this week, we want to show them exactly what they’re in for if—and when—we meet in the postseason."

I think that Nevada's rivals are Detroit. Right now the both teams are not maybe the best in this season, but both teams has great rookie pool and Detroit had first pick in last draft. As the season goes on, and even seasons in future, i can see that both teams will get better pretty fast so i can see us fighting for the same positions in regular season and hard fights in playoffs. I see that both teams are in same situation, which means that both teams are rebuilding, so it means, that teams are relying rookies right now, but we are gonna see epic fights in future too.
Detroit is my favourite team in NHL in real life, so that's why detroit is my team to beat in SHL also, so it is like "love and hate thing" for me aswell. I can't wait for upcoming seasons, because i can see that both teams are gonna be contenders in the future, so it is nice to see, which team can do the rebuild faster and be a contender sooner. And who doesn't like to beat the team, that had that magical first pick in last draft? I guess everyone does.

I think that right now in the moment, our biggest rival is Newfoundland. We have had the unfortunate displeasure of meeting them on the ice three times this season, and each time has gone poorer for us than the last.

In our first face off, the Grizzlies stood tall and managed to keep the score within one. Things would take a pretty dire turn after that, unfortunately.

When we met for the second time, Newfoundland really poured on the offense and put on a commanding performance, blowing us out 9 to 1. It’s hard to take a loss like that in stride, those types of games build the resentment and make guys want to drop the gloves around the middle of the third period.

If you thought it couldn’t get worse for us Grizzlies, you were wrong. Matchup the third, we couldn’t even put a puck behind their goalie. It was a 7-0 shutout. Newfoundland made a very strong case that they can outperform us on both sides of the puck. It’s hard to disagree, but it does make me want to turn the tables on them.

Until that happens, I’ll be cheering for the downfall of Newfoundland. (But like, in a fun way)
