For sports shots I love to use my telephoto. I shoot baseball mostly when doing photos and the telephoto seems to have just enough speed and I can sit right aside the dugout and take quality shots if it is a moderately sunny day.

If you want something shorter I recommend a 50mm 1/1.8. Its great for single subject shots. Gives a good sharp foreground. I shoot that but in a 1/1.4. The 1.8 will give you most of the same and it'll only take about $100 to get one brand new.

I usually run every photo I take through actions in Photoshop which resizes them, adds the dumb logo that I don't use anymore, and does auto levels.

So the only editing on any of those is most likely auto levels and that's it.
