Improved Run of Form for Schalke

[Image: Schalke04p_4449053_6021564.png]</div>

Following a poor start to friendly season, it seems as though Cole Reinhart and FC Schalke have sorted everything out and have won two straight games on the strength of transfer signing Ron-Robert Zieler and the Schalke offense.

<div align="center">[Image: N5UJF4O.png]</div>

While their opponents may not have been of top quality, any success will be welcomed at Veltins-Arena right about now, and the 5-0 rout of Westerlo was no exception. Julian Draxler and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar contributed with goals, but were overshadowed by the performance of Schalke captain CB Benedikt Höwedes, who scored a hat trick on the day.

Following that performance, Zieler and Schalke would complete another clean sheet, this time in German Cup action as the Royal Blues moved on with a win over Pfeddersheim that came down to the wire, a 0-0 draw until defensive midfielder Roman Neustädter scored in the 88th minute.

Next up for FC Schalke is the opening of the 2013-14 Bundesliga campaign. They'll face Wolfsburg and Freiburg to kick off the season.

Schalke Back to Poor Play, Transfer News

[Image: _71101883_inpho_00750319.jpg]</div>

What seemed like a breakthrough for Schalke may just have been a bit of luck, as the side returned to their losing ways over the last three matches - including the first leg of a Champions League Best Placed Playoff against Real Sociedad. While young players Julian Draxler and Max Meyer have impressed, both with a goal early in the season, the club was unable to find a way to win in any of these matches.

<div align="center">[Image: bFDtmMR.png]</div>

Following this poor run, Cole Reinhart was looking to shake things up once again and he has done just that, bringing in Irish right back Seamus Coleman from Everton, costing the club $15,000,000. Reinhart admits that the price was steep, but says Coleman has the ability to be one of the best fullbacks in the Bundesliga and brings much needed stability to the position. Atsuto Uchida, the former first choice RB, will serve as a secondary option for now, but is expected to be sold in the near future.

FC Schalke Turn It Around

[Image: s04_szalai_clap_628.jpg]</div>

FC Schalke has been anything but consistent up to this point in the season, but they seem to finally be putting it all together. It's been a rocky road for Cole Reinhart, but with things finally settling down and his starting eleven taking shape, things are now on the up!

<div align="center">[Image: Adx3SPW.png]</div>

Schalke have now gone unbeaten for six straight matches, winning four in that time.

Their run started with a 3-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, with goals coming from Joel Matip, Julian Draxler, and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Following their first win of the Bundesliga season, Schalke would draw with Real Sociedad 1-1, but lose 3-1 on aggregate in the Champions League Qualifying Playoff. Backup striker Adam Szalai scored in the match, but the Schalke defense was unable to hold off Carlos Vela, who tied things up in the 24th minute.

From there, Schalke would record four straight clean sheets, with three for newcomer Ron-Robert Zieler (versus Braunschweigher Eintracht, VfB Stuttgart, and TSG Hoffenheim), and one for veteran keeper Timo Hildebrand against Belgian side KRC Genk in Europa League action. Adam Szalai impressed once again, scoring both goals in the 2-0 defeat of Genk, bringing his total to three on the season.

Next up for FC Schalke will be Reinhart's biggest test yet, as his club takes on bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Revier Derby, as the two clubs meet in the German Cup Second Round.

Quote:I'm just about caught up now, the Dortmund match is the most recent one I've played, so from that update on it will be live.

SEPTEMBER 24, 2013
VELTINS-ARENA
</div>

It was an historic day at Veltins-Arena as the home team Schalke defeated their fiercest rivals to win the Revierderby and advance past the second round of the DFB Pokal!

<div align="center">[Image: GLjTevH.png]</div>

The first half was uneventful, save for two yellow cards given to Dortmund players Erik Durm and Sven Bender. It was in the second half that Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar opened scoring with a brilliant strike in the 59th minute, followed by a strike from Julian Draxler just nine minutes later.

Dortmund star Robert Lewandowski gave BVB hope in the 86th minute with a goal that beat Zieler, but Schalke fans were given life again in injury time when Huntelaar scored his second of the match to ensure victory for his side.

Additionally, youngster Donis Avdijaj became the youngest player in Schalke history, as he made his debut for his club on the biggest stage of all at just 17 years old, coming on as a substitute in the 79th minute of the match.

Schalke manager Reinhart praised his side for their performance, and what a performance it was! He congratulated Marco Hoger, who was named the Man of the Match in the Revierderby. Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was not as happy post-match, saying "I hope the players are hurting and itching to get back on track."

These two sides will meet again in Bundesliga action on October 19th.

Quote:HUGE win over Dortmund, I was really excited about it. Hopefully this sparks some more wins for us as we have a quite condensed schedule for the next 3 matches or so.

FC Schalke October Results

[Image: Schalke04p_4449053_6021564.png]</div>

Following a huge win in the Revierderby, FC Schalke 04 were looking forward to closing out September on a high note and carrying their momentum into October. Things didn't quite turn out that way, but they still find themselves in a comfortable position in the league table with an opportunity to move up.

<div align="center">[Image: WWMpw6x.png]</div>

The Royal Blues ended September with a victory over Augsburg, but it was a closer match than their fans were hoping for. Schalke were a bit lucky to have come away with the three points in this one - despite Augsburg never registering a shot on goal - as the only scorer in the match turned out to be Augsburg's André Hahn as he deflected in an own goal from a Schalke corner.

Next up was a Europa League Group Stage match against Bursapor. Schalke were the favourites here, but couldn't solve the Turkish side as they fell 1-0 in the match to push Bursapor into first place in their group.

The next match for Schalke was very disappointing despite coming away with a point, as they led 3-1 at one point thanks to two goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and one from Kevin-Prince Boateng. Mike Frantz knotted things up for Nurnberg in the 93rd minute to salvage a point from the match.

In the Revierderby rematch, Schalke was devastated. After overcoming their arch rivals in the DFB Pokal just a month before, this time it was Borussia Dortmund coming out victorious on the strength of a Robert Lewandowski hat trick.

Schalke's fortunes would improve from there with a 3-1 victory over FC Nordsjælland in Europa League action to retain their 2nd position in the group. Max Meyer was the hero in this one, scoring two for Schalke, while defender Seamus Coleman scored his first for his new side with a brilliant strike from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Schalke met with Hannover 96 to close out October, in a match anticipated match after the managers of each side had a war of words in he media. This just a couple of months after the two agreed to a transfer that brought Ron-Robert Zieler to Schalke. The Royal Blues struck early in the match as Julian Draxler scored in the 5th minute, but Hannover would tie it just nine minutes later, and the match would end 1-1.
