A fresh crop of prospects prepare for the opportunity to be drafted into the SMJHL en route to the SHL. Among those seeking fame and fortune in the hockey world is Edge Ochocinco, son of former SHL player Mike Ochocinco. One of the most feared defensemen in the league, if not always on the scoreboard, Mike Ochocinco was constantly among the league leaders in hits and penalty minutes every season; Edge is a chip off the old block.



Hardly looking to dwell in the shadow cast by his father, Edge Ochocinco will quickly be looking to make a name for himself in the hockey world; much to the chagrin of other hopeful SMJHLers. Playing Triple A hockey in Airdrie last season, Edge accumulated 33 points in 28 games including a whopping 68 penalty minutes. Both unafraid to drop the mitts and willing to push himself on every shift, it will be interesting to see if Edge can transfer his skills to the next level. An SMJHL Scout had this to say:

Edge Ochocinco has all the necessary tools to be a premier power forward in the SHL; what we question is whether he has the skills to be anything more then a grinder. He's big, he's strong, and opponents hate him but that's his game and he plays it well. Any team would be lucky to have him and very unlucky to not. He deserves a shot to show the hockey community what he can do for his team. He gives it all every shift, he's a strong leader and he loves to win.



Just like his aforementioned father, Edge has had various problems approaching his draft year including drug and alcohol abuse, several fights that resulted in fines, and a steamy incident where he was accused of sleeping with one of his teammates mothers. It's almost guaranteed that this player will see time sitting in the bleachers for his unruly behaviour but if he can learn to work out his issues he could become a very dominant top sixer as early as next season.
