Last Friday we saw two action packed games, here’s your recap with Shane Gagner…

:impact: Montreal Impact vs. Vancouver Whalers Whalers

In this crazy matchup we saw rivals Montreal and Vancouver go head to head in what needed to be decided in a shoot out with a total of 9 goals scored!

Montreal outshot Vancouver significantly with 33 shots on goal to Vancouver’s 12. Let’s see how we got there with tonight’s breakdown!

First Period:
It took a while to get the goals popping up on the scoreboard but MTL’s Vader (1) put’s one home for his team at 13:53 in the first for his first goal of the season! VAN awnsers shortly after at 15:39 by Zyvleski (7) who is no stranger to putting em in the net. To close out the period VAN kills off a penalty from Wade (Hooking Minor) at 17:09.

Second Period:
Zyvleski (8) looks to own the ice as he puts in his second one of the night for VAN early on at 1:21. VAN must have a pretty persistent pimp as they take another minor for hooking by Porter. The penalty is quickly killed off but Vader (2) gets his second goal of the season and the game shortly after at 8:49, the score is now tied 2-2. To run out time on this period, MTL’s Grundmanis (6) puts his club up 3-2 on the power play after VAN’s Blake is caught holding.

Third period:
Top scorers for both MTL and VAN, McEichel (16) and Gerrard (13) put up goals early on at 3:53 and 5:13. the score is now 4-3 with still 15 minutes of ice time. Vancouver rushes to tie this one up and Black (8) easily does at 10:44. We go into overtime all tied up!

Overtime/SO:
Overtime isn’t enough to cut it today, this matchup goes into a shootout which saw 5 goals scored! MTL barely takes this game as McEichel misses his chance for VAN.

Scarecrows St. Louis Scarecrows vs. Colorado Mammoths Mammoths

Despite haveing close shot differentials, this game was fairly one sided and saw one team take the “W” with a 2 goal lead and 4 goals total.

Colorado barely outshot St. Louis with 27 to 21 making it to the goalie. Let’s recap what happened with tonight’s breakdown.

First Period:
This period saw 3 penalties, two for STL and one for COL, but neither two goals scored were on the man advantage. STL’s Hunyadi (1) opened the scoring at 8:55 with his first of the season. Exactly 1 minute later, COL awnsered with a goal from Chips (6) at 9:55. We move on tied, 1-1.

Second Period:
No goals were scored in this one by either club unfortunatley. Again STL took two penalties to COL’s one. All minors, two for tripping and one for holding. Volchenkov, Beckner and Holiday all sat in the box in this one. Still tied 1-1.

Third Period:
Finally a power play goal is scored by COL’s Pellegrino (14) at 4:06 early on, after STL takes a hooking minor. COL now looks to close the gap even further and take the game away and they sure do with a goal by Buckner (5) at 11:16. Score is now 3-1 and the game will finish that way as STL is unable to close the gap. This matchup finishes 3-1 for Colorado.
