Game 109 – Detroit Falcons Falcons at Halifax Raiders raiders

Halifax got called for three penalties in the first period and the Falcons would make them pay on two of the power plays. First, just over seven minutes into the game, Bartenberry netted his 12th of the season to give the Falcons a 1 to 0 lead. Second, Lehner scored the second power play goal with a little more than five minutes left in the period. It was his 8th of the season. Sandwiched in between the two Falcons goals was a Raider goal by Gan, his 11th, as the Falcons took a 2 to 1 lead into the second period. The Raiders outshot the Falcons 11 to 9 in the period.

A little more than halfway through the second period, Halifax scored two goals 75 seconds apart to take a 3 to 2 lead. Ross tied the game with his 6th of the season and then Gan scored his second of the game to give the Raiders the lead. However, the Raiders would take another penalty and Matteo would make them pay again as the Falcons scored their third power play goal of the game. It was Matteo’s 3rd of the season. Detroit outshot the Raiders 6 to 5.

The teams would exchange goals in the third period as Detroit scored early on Pellegrino’s 7th while Aumeisters would tie the game late with his 3rd. Detroit would outshoot Halifax 11 to 7 in the third period, but neither team would score or even get a shot on goal in the overtime period as the game went into a shootout.

In the shootout, Langabeer scored for the Falcons, but Gan tied for Halifax through the first three shooters. Shooters 4 thru 7 either missed the net or were stopped by the goalie. The Falcons 8th shooter was stopped by Broadway while Ross found the back of the net for the Raiders who took home the 5 to 4 win.

Broadway picked up the win in goal, his 18th of the season, while Bauer took the loss (8-11-2 on the season). The Falcons were 3 for 7 on the power play while the Raiders were 0 for 1.

Final Score: raiders 5 Falcons 4 (SO)

Game 110 – Vancouver Whalers Whalers at Prince George Firebirds

Prince George gave the Whalers a couple of power play chances in the first period, but the Whalers would not score and would give up a shorthanded goal on the second power play chance as Fleming scored his 10th of the season to give the Firebirds a 1 to 0 lead after the first period. Prince George would get a late power play chance, but could not score either as Vancouver outshot them 6 to 3 in the period.

The Firebirds would keep the penalties coming in the second period as they were called for four of them compared to none on the Whalers, but the Firebirds held them off of the scoreboard including a 5 on 3 chance. Vancouver outshot the Firebirds 7 to 1 in the period.

In the third period, Vancouver would take an early penalty and shut down the power play once again, but would finally get their own power play goal just over six minutes into the period to tie the game at 1 to 1 on Porter’s 3rd of the season. Wood would score with six minutes left for the Whalers, his 3rd as well, to give them a 2 to 1 lead. But, with just 35 seconds left in the game, Robertson would tie the game and send it into overtime with his 6th of the season for the Firebirds who outshot the Whalers 8 to 4 in the third.

In overtime, the Whalers outshot the Firebirds 3 to 0 and it was that third shot with just over a minute left in the game that gave them the win with Sanders 17th of the season. Trent picked up his 5th win of the season by making 10 saves while Sylvia took the loss by stopping 17 of 20 shots.

Final Score: Whalers 3 Firebirds 2 (OT)
