So I was obviously expecting to do this about a week later and with a cup, but things didn't go as we hoped.Congrats to Raiders, rip my 4 million, but it's a sim league anyways, so in the end I'm not too mad.

Is the water pipe fixed for good?
It sure is now. It turned out that the part of the pipe which bursted was made out of shitty plastic because that pipe had already bursted in the exact same spot in the past and it was a temporary replacement. Now that part is fixed as it should be and I hope that it won't give us any problems for a while. There was some damage done to some other things in our basement since the water literally was almost to my knees, but at least we managed to fix it fast and there wasn't bigger damage.

Yes, I sure did. All of that sweet sweet skrilla will be going to Boz. What can I say.. It's fake virtual money in the end anyways, and it just made the series more fun. If we actually would had won, I would bet some 8 million on our win in the finals. I am planning on writing at least 2 big articles in the offseason, and combined with this presser I should be good in terms of money. So it was all just for fun.

What are your overall thoughts on round 2?
We started pretty good. I, personally, felt like we were good enough to take the series in about 6 games. Our strongest facet of the game - powerplay was on point in the first game. At that point I knew if we are going to be strong on powerplay, we should win most of the games and therefore win the series. But something just went wrong. In the second game we didn't score a single powerplay goal, the same happened in game 3. In our second win we scored 1 out of 6. That wasn't what we were capable of, yet their goalie was just not good enough in that game and we were just lucky that we won. The key point in losing I think was the shutout in game 5. We switched our strategies to be better on the offense. I really don't know if we really had to do that. I might be wrong, but earlier in the season when we had that disastrous 9 game losing streak, one or two of our lines were set to full offense too. Defense wins games. Of course, if we actually would be able to play by the principle "score how many you want, we will score more", then it would be okay. But we can't do that. In the juniors the skill gap is too close to be able to do that. I think we had to stick to more defensive/physical playstyle. It was good enough to win games. Okay, maybe in game 2 and 3 something definitely was wrong, but I think the changes that we made didn't help us at all. Raiders outplayed us. Kudos to them. We'll come back next season.

Going into the draft, where can you see yourself going overall?
To be honest, I see myself going almost anywhere possible. I could be a top 5 pick as well as a 3rd rounder. No team has assured me that they would take me. And, to be honest, I will start to reach out to the GMs way more only now. But, speaking about how I value myself in the draft, I'd say late 2nd/early 3rd round. When Grim asked to rank the rookies, I put myself 25th. I really don't know. What I can tell is, that I am going to stay active as long as I can and teams will just benefit from drafting me. I maybe haven't put out many articles, but I got them coming in this offseason, and I am on the site regularly everyday. That's why, to raise my draft stock, I'll reach out to GMs to show that I am active and I plan to be active in the future, because I feel like some of them may be concerned about my activity.

Top 5 non-teammate Discord rookies (don't have to be in order)?
You- I mean, how could I not include you there? We just found out that we mostly listen to the same bands. For me, if I actually find someone with who I can talk about music, I automatically like them. But of course, that's not the only reason. You are the one who created our Discord, you're doing great job managing it, you created our fantasy, we can joke about you and (hopefully) you don't take that too seriously, you're just overall really cool and I could continue naming the reasons.

Tomen- European connection, baby! We just get along really well, I can rely on him to do some updates if I don't have time to do them. We can talk about European stuff, NFL cheerleaders and other things. Just a really cool guy.

Maxi- one of the older members of the Discord who can joke, speak in the voice chat with a voice changer so everyone just dies from laugh, he can sing and he likes metal. He showed me some really good bands that I can't stop listening to. s#hlhocey AND THE FANFICTION. I'm still laughing my ass off when I read that fanfic. Can't wait to see the full version of it in the future.

Zach- to me he sounds like a guy who could be speaking in every single North American advertisement or be the most generic WatchMojo top 10 host ever. Literally the most american voice I've ever heard. When we both were singing karaoke, I felt like he just destroys me with his singing. Really one of the coolest guys in the Discord.

Waturs- At one point he can be just the most annoying person in the Discord, at the next moment he can be my favourite person there. Without dem memes the chat would never be the same.

If you could take two non-teammate rookies with you where you get drafted, who would you take? (On-ice and off-ice reasons both apply equally.)
Tomen (Eduard Selich)- I already explained the off ice reasons, but if we're talking about on-ice reasons- he's just looking to build a possesion sniper, and I think that would complement my defensive game very well. He's looking to make a guy similar to Angello, and he was great for us in this season, so I'd love to have a player like that.

I totally would love to get drafted alongside one of the goalies in our class, but since my absolutely favourite team in the SHL doesn't need one right now, I should say suir (Marc Leclerc)- having a chance to probably form the most dominant defensive pair in the league is definitely enticing. I'd love to see us just blocking them shots and making opponents fear our physical play.

I mean, we are one of the biggest draft classes and definitely one of the most active ones. And all of you guys have unique and awesome personalities. We just love to get involved in everything- that may be working for the league, creating spreadsheets, etc. We got karaoke. We got fantasy handegg and will have hockey. We are the best memers. We are just the best in everything!

If you could pick one all-time artist you'd do anything to see, who would you pick? (Explain if you want that word count bonus laugh.gif)
As I Lay Dying. They might be my favourite band yet they are on hiatus because of what Tim did... I still have a chance to see other bands I love, but AILD is not active anymore. They had some of the best shows ever. I still think Tim was one of the absolute best vocalists in the whole genre, both live and in the studio. Jordan Mancino was one of the best drummers in the genre IMO. Nick Hipa was one of the best guitarists in the genre. They have put out some of the best genre-defining albums which are one of my all time favourite albums as well. It sucks that I probably will never have a chance to see them live, but if I would have, I'd do anything to see them.
But having to name only one band is so difficult. I haven't seen any of my favourite bands shows since I live in Latvia and still have to wait a bit to be able to go to some of the biggest festivals in Europe.

Best Kamelot album?
The Black Halo. I love the symphonic sound that Kamelot historically has and the modern metal touch to it just makes it awesome.

Favorite concert documentary/show?
Parkway Drive - Home Is For The Heartless DVD. Guys from Parkway are AMAZING, they are humble, cool, play some of the most ridiculous shows ever and have put out some of my favourite songs all time. Luke fucking played a show IN A WHEELCHAIR. I love them.

I'll name my top 3 in each label, because these seriously have amazing artists.

Fearless Records
August Burns Red. Easy all-time favourite band top 5 pick. One of the rare metalcore bands which get amazingly creative and I feel like every single guy in that band could easily be top 5 in metalcore in their respective areas.
Motionless In White. They have an interesting image and they always find a way to put out some banger tracks and albums. Love them.

Ohh, Risecore. One of the most generic labels out there but they definitely have some great artists. My top 3 would be:
Make Them Suffer. Easily my favourite band in that label. Amazing lyrics and music.
The Devil Wears Prada- A classic band which will never die in my heart. Absolutely love them and I'm hyped for the new album.
Dance Gavin Dance- my favourite post-hardcore band, when I started to listen to PH, these guys were my first choice and they haven't disappointed. Love them.
Notable mentions- Chelsea Grin (although I'm not a huge fan of their latest album), Crown The Empire, Memphis May Fire, Like Moths To Flames.

Epitaph Records
Parkway Drive- I already told earlier how much I love their personalities. Their songs are just so hard-hitting, I occasionally have chills when I listen to their songs.
Architects- RIP Tom. They dropped an album 2 days after my birthday. And now a key piece of the band is gone. I don't know if they will even continue, but I'd love to see more of them in the future even after Tom died.
Bring Me The Horizon (anything besides That's The Spirit)- Although many of previously mentioned bands have better albums and songs musically, they still have mande one of the most popular, genre defining and fun songs.

Betraying The Martyrs- one of my favourite deathcore bands. Their cleans are what stands out to me and some of their songs are brutal as fuck.

What are your ultimate goals for your player?
I just want Kris to be the best he can be. I'll train as much as I can, listen to advice from some veterans, GMs, and just hope that Kristofer's career turns out amazing.
I hope that I will get a gold with Latvia in the IIHF tournament. Latvia has done it in the past when we had a much stronger team. Although we got at least some young blood coming in, our defense needs much work to be contenders.
I want AT LEAST 1 Challenge cup. For a HoF career I think I need more than 1.
I want Kris to be a force in the defense. Hits and blocked shots are usually the first stats that I look at when checking out the games, so I like to see those high. Obviously, it's cool to see having an assist or even a goal, and surely later in my career I expect to have more of those, but firstly I want Kris to be a shutdown defender.

How many more seasons would you like to play in the SMJHL if the decision was solely made by you?
Depends on the team I get drafted to. I'd most probably like a 3 season development (that means 2 more) in the SMJHL. I want to come to the SHL and already make good enough of an impact, but in the end, of course, it will come down to what the team really needs. My preference is 2 seasons down in the SMJHL trying to get that cup and helping the Militia, but if I will be needed in the SHL after 1 more season, I'm down for that.

Do you think Montreal will be able to reach the Cup final next year? Even with losing a lot of vets.
That is our goal every season. We will be losing some of our key players, but we have guys who can fill those shoes, me being one of them. I will definitely try to reach out to new guys so we can have a strong team going into the season. Now it will be the time when we are the veterans and we have to welcome the new guys. With the group that we have in the LR I think anyone would be happy to come here. And I trust our management. I think we can pull a cup run in the next season.

Would you ever want to be a GM?
Of course. There definitely are more experienced rookies right now that will start their GM'ing journey way faster than me, but I'd like to see myself in at least a SMJHL co-GM spot in, let's say, 3 seasons. I want to acquire experience and get tips from my current GMs and just experienced guys so in the future I could be a good GM. Also I like to communicate with people and even more, helping out the new guys. I think I would be a good GM when I get the necessary experience about the sim.

Would you rather have a HoF Career with your player or win back to back Gold with Latvia in the IIHF?
Very tough question. I'd LOVE to get back to back golds with Latvia. But I like to look at this question this way- if Kris has a HoF career, he would probably have some achievements with the national team too, eh? At least I hope so. If I'd have a HoF career, it would attract more people to come to team Latvia, therefore we'd have a higher chance of winning it all once again.

What was the biggest key to Montreal's late season success?
Obviously, the rookie improvement. We just had a bunch of guys who were (and still are) willing to improve. Our GMs are really helpful too whenever we asked something, so things just HAD to go the right way.
Also, I just feel like during that losing streak we just didn't have enough luck. We constantly outshot our opponents and beat them in other parts of the game, I blame some of those losses just on sheer luck for the other teams and inability to convert our chances successfully.
Also, goalie improvement. We ha.... had.. (y u did this Baller&Cope) 2 active goalies who were improving really fast and we just needed time to get better.

What was the biggest key in Montreal's playoff loss to Halifax?
After the game 1- inability to score on powerplay. It was our strongest aspect of the game, but Hali just managed to shut it down perfectly and they managed to use their chances. Also, I think that the tactics change wasn't really working in our favor. Outshooting our opponents is good, but efficiency and defense matters. We were outplayed.

Who should be Militia captain next season?
Good question! I believe that the captain should be someone experienced. If I recall correctly, Granlund is staying down for one more season, so I think he should be our captain, but if we're talking about assistant captains, that's where it gets interesting. I feel like Ryan Vas could be an excellent candidate for that spot. I also feel like I could be a good candidate. But we'll see.

Good point. I just thought, since goalies of this draft class have a tendency to create interesting relationships with other members of this draft class (talking about Rudnikova+Evans and Volkova+Wahlgren, of course), you might be a strong candidate to be the next one to create an interesting relationship with someone. Now that you’re going to literally swim in cash, you might as well just spend some of that money on your first date… we are waiting )

I'm still incredibly jealous of your garden, bro. What would you say of everything you wind up growing at home, you actually get excited to harvest -- like, what tastes the best, what do you most enjoy cooking with/having cooked for you?
Can’t say that I’m too excited when we get to harvest everything, because that takes a lot of time from my summer. Most common vegetables that we use for cooking from our garden, obviously, are potatoes, and I love potato pancakes, potatoes cooked in oven etc., but actually I’d say that pears are my favourites. They don’t take much work to harvest, yet they taste awesome and we make some delicious desserts using pears. Apples sometimes are a pain in the ass, because they tend to fall down on the grass, and if the grass is pretty long, then it’s hard to get all of those apples. Speaking about all of the berries that we grow here, I’d say that cherries are my favourite. I just can go out with my friends, walk by my garden and just take some cherries. It’s pretty cool. But speaking about everything else that we grow.. Well, it takes a lot of time and work even when we grow stuff only for family use.

Well, this feels weird. I can skate faster and maneuver better.. hey, I still can’t shoot, so that hasn’t changed. I automatically try to play more defensively, and the coach yells- “Hey, Pietra! Don’t seem like yourself today! You okay?”

Full contact practice.. Hey, I can still lay hits nicely.. Think like a winger would think.. Fastbreak.. damn I can skate fast. Reflieux skates into the neutral zone, I try to catch up, I want to hit him so bad.. We go into the offensive zone .. He passes to me, I try to slap shot.. it goes way wide.. hahahaha.. I feel like myself once again.
After that I just tried to be as normal as I can, except the fact that I sent some messages to Kyle Wahlgren, with their content being something like
“Hey babe.. I feel like I’m gonna need some help with scoring… we have a game in 3 days.. when will you come to halifax?? ) I don't have any other plans for the next few evenings.. txt me back when you can. ;*”
Speaking about the game that day, I decided to play as physical as I can, and while I had 5 hits after first period, I was willing to hit my “teammates” all the time. Reflexes are hard to overcome, what can I say. It was a late evening gamez and the clock hit midnight during the first intermission, so Volkova and Kris returned to their real bodies just at that time. While I found myself sitting on my couch in my Montreal's apartment playing NHL 17, Volkova was quite surprised when she returned to her real body while hearing this from her coach: “...I’m impressed by your physical play and will to help on defense, but we need to see some shots from you!...”

Also some people say that there were some unusual tweets posted from Volkova’s account, with one of them saying “If this tweet gets 5000 likes, I’ll end every of my future tweets this season with a hashtag #MilitiaIsBetter”.
Also, people noticed an Instagram post with the picture being from a Raiders-Scarecrows game, where Volkova shoots to the net, but the caption being “@KWahlgren I maybe didn’t score a goal on you that night, but I scored on you IRL ”
However, these posts were deleted shortly after the game, the Twitter post got to about 5,1K likes, but Volkova obviously denied that she has said something like that.. But I don’t answer for her actions, so there’s that.

Are you excited about WJC? How do you feel your juniors team racks up against the rest of the teams, and are you please with your team's name choice?

Since these are “way-too-late” answers, I’m just gonna give you my thoughts about the WJC. I originally wasn’t supposed to be a GM of the Leetches (not my favourite of the team names people suggested, but whatever), but eventually I was the second co-GM alongside Megan. What can I say, it was fun making 1) fun of my team and 2) lines for my team. We were one of the shittiest teams, and although we had some really good players, like everyone did, I think our weak spot was goalkeeping and bad chemistry between players. We had a very low amount of guys who could actually be playmakers. Almost every forward of ours was a scorer, and if you get all scorers on the ice, obviously, the game won’t go very well. We had some good games, I tried to learn some stuff about the sim, contacted some experienced people and read stuff in our LR. It was a good experience, and I’m definitely looking forward to something like that in the next off-season.

If you could play for any other time in the IIHF other than Latvia, which one would it be and why?
Norway or Sweden. I love Scandinavian countries, and my player is technically coming from Scandinavia. However, I never had a second thought about choosing my current player’s nationality, because I’m proud to be Latvian, and I really wanted to give Latvia one good defender. However, I can’t really tell what nationality will my next player have. I really want to have a player playing for a Scandinavian country in the future, but I might as well stay loyal to Latvia. Time will tell.


Can you play any instruments, and if so, what are they?
I used to learn piano. I was somewhat decent, I could play some songs pretty well, but now I’d have to put in huge work to be good at playing some songs on piano. When I stopped learning piano, I just felt like it's not "my instrument". I just didn't have a connection to it.
I’m also trying to learn guitar. I have one at home, though, I don’t have much time to play it. School takes up so much time, I just don’t have any time to learn something, but I definitely want to be a good guitar player in the future.
But, above all, I want to play drums. I don't have drums at home and I don’t really have an option to play them somewhere at this point. But if I’m ever going to get an option to learn how to play drums, I won’t think twice to start doing that.

I am a huge fan of all kinds of metal. Here’s a song from a band which is pretty popular in the genre of metalcore, it even had a song nominated for a Grammy last year. And, this music video has 2 million views on Youtube, which is rather much for a band in this genre. But, seeing how many views do other songs of this genre get, it just amazes me how people don’t appreciate great songs.
Why this particular song- I love it’s every aspect. First, the instrumental play and the vocals. The song just hits you hard. It has beautiful riffs and heavy breakdowns. But, along with that, the lyrics are thought-provoking. Lyrics are not the “life is hard everything is bad” type, but they actually are about a real problem. Find it out yourself, and if you have something to say about it, lemme know.

What movie coming out in the next year or so are you the most hype about?
To be honest, I don’t watch many movies and I don’t even know what movies are coming out soon. So can’t give you an answer for this one.

Yea, these are way-too-late answers, so i can only tell you, that most of the SHL teams didn’t give a shit about me, and to be honest, I don’t blame them. In my opinion, if you really want to play for someone, then you should contact them first and express your interest. I did that and eventually got drafted where I wanted to be the most. I might not get called up this upcoming offseason, but I have a great group of people in the LR and a strong team.
If you don’t contact any teams, you have to be happy about the results the way they are.
