S32 Championship Week

Task 1
[Image: WfX8Eih.png]

Task 5
C - Geoffrey Allen
Geoffrey Allen led his Texas Renegades with 47 points as his team narrowly missed out on the playoffs, losing a tie-breaker to the eventual Challenge Cup Winner, the Calgary Dragons. He finished 5th among centres in scoring and finished 5th overall in goals with 23.

W - Damien Wert
An off-season acquisition from the West Kendall Platoon, Wert had a breakout year playing on the North Stars' top line, forming a dynamic duo with Chester Cunningham. After Cunningham was traded at the trade deadline, Wert continued to produce, showing he is a legitimate first line player.

W - Kristian Eriksson
The reigning Ron Mexico Trophy winner was unable to replicated his success, but still put up some respectable numbers, playing the majority of the season on the second line. His 23 goals were good for eighth in the league and he also tied his career high with 212 hits, which placed him third in the SHL.

D - Friedrich Muller
The veteran defenseman showed he still has it this season, putting up a monster year for the lowly Buffalo Stampede. His 48 points were 10 more than his closest teammate, and put him second in the league among defensemen. He also had 71 shot blocks, which also led his team.

D - Vladimir Lidstrom
Another veteran, Lidstrom was his usual self, putting up gaudy point totals. With 7 goals and 38 assists, he finished just behind Geoffrey Allen on his team for scoring. Not the most physical player, but he had 67 shot blocks while playing almost 28 minutes a game.

G - Christoffer Bjornsson
The young goaltender seems to have found a home in Texas after bouncing around for a few seasons. He had a very respectable .91 save percentage to go along with 2.40 GAA.

TASK FOUR:
My choice for playoff MVP is Manhattan's VLAD McZehrl. Just like in the regular season, it's hard to argue that McZherl is anything but a star in the Season 32 playoffs. Although his team ultimately fell short of winning the cup, his strong play (and ridiculous ice time, at 30 minutes per night throughout the post-season) were enough to propel his team all the way to the finals, including a sweep of the finals favorites New England Wolfpack. Despite playing one less game than his competitors on the Calgary Dragons, McZehrl was tied for number one for goals across the post-season with 9 and second for assists with 13 (one behind Alex Mack of the dragons). This put him at 22 points, 4 ahead of any of his competition. And while he wasn't in the top 5 for hits, McZehrl isn't afraid to help the team with his physical play either, notching 39 hits and even 9 blocked shots across the three series. While he's no longer a young player, McZehrl still has a number of strong years ahead of him, and it's scary to think of the heights he'll be able to propel a deeper Manhattan Rage to in the future. Expect to see him continuing to push for the Challenge Cup next season.

Task Five:
F - Damien Wert Stars - Wert had a season to remember the Stars, and it's a shame it didn't materialize with a shot at the playoffs. Wert tallied a phenomenal 51 points and 25 goals in 50 games for Toronto, leading their team in both categories.
F - Michael Burch Steelhawks - The Steelhawks leader in both goals scored with 18 and points with 39, Burch is clearly a player that could have done some real damage this season with more help around him. A great talent with high offensive upside.
F - Luke Fleming Jets - The Jets leader in points this season with 44 is both talented and versatile, Fleming not only led Winnipeg in goals (21) and points (44), but was also 2nd on his team in hits with a final tally of 135.
D - Friedrich Muller Stampede - By far Buffalo's best player in S32, Muller wraps up his career with a season that puts him legitimate contention for the Stevens trophy. Muller was tops on Buffalo in all of goals (21), points (48), and +/- (+14).
D - Kelly Rivet :admirals: - Admirals rookie standout put up gaudy statistics from the blue line with 5 goals, 26 assists, 31 points, and 90 hits. Rivet cemented himself as one of Portland biggest bright spots for the future and as a legitimate Rookie of the Year candidate.
G - Kristoffer Bjornsson Renegades - Texas' steady presence in between the pipes put up another solid season in S32, where he finished 5th in GAA (2.40) and tied for 2nd in Shutouts with 4. His 26 wins also finished 3rd among all SHL netminders.

task 2:
the biggest game of the playoffs in my opinion was the final game of the western conference finals, between the Edmonton Blizzard and the Calgary Dragons. Dragons came into this game with the series lead, at home, with an incredibly important task at hand and obviously ended up taking it. Calgary got off to an early lead and the Blizzard couldn't get back thanks to the proficiency of goaltender Hunter Wong The aforementioned Wong and Randy Randleman were easily the two best players in this game, with Wong nearly shutting out the Blizzard offense with 21 saves on 22 shots, also showing how good that Dragons defense really is. Randleman, one of the elite players on the Dragons squad, scored a great goal and managed 23 fantastic minutes of hockey. The Dragons are now off to play the Rage in an unlikely finals matchup to end the season.

task 3:
Alright Steelhawks, the SHL finals are about to start and i know you're all sad about the fact that our team is absolute trash but I think you might want to see this one, so tune into steelhawks station 72.9 to get an unbiased viewing of the finals. Puck Drop is at 7 pm at the Saddledome but our pregame show starts at 8, because like the steelhawks team themselves, we always show up way late. We will have an interview with Ben Waters, because his team is worried about his commitment and has forced him to do this. And yes, after his unfortunate ski accident, Waters only knows how to speak a saharan desert dialect of arabic, so we will be hiring translators. Be sure to call in and have a chance to win absolutely nothing from noone, because the steelhawks can't afford the shipping costs of any signed memorabilia/ Game 1 starts Monday. Be there.
task 4:
While McZerhl didn't end up leading his team to the promised land, the Rage beat some incredible teams, and had it not been for his ridiculous contributions, probably wouldn't be here in the first place. His 22 points, 7 of them goals, in 15 games is incredibly impressive, and cannot be ignored, even if he lost. He still turned out a +7 despite his massive TOI numbers. 2 of his 7 goals were game winning, proving that he can be clutch if he wants to be. He had 7 points in the crucial series against the Wolfpack to send his team to the finals, finally proving that the VLAD cannot be ignored. He also forced Eggy to actually give a shit about what he was doing so that's a plus. VLAD should honestly win MVP in my opinion only because of his absolutely insane point scoring during the first round of the playoffs. The Rage player finished with 12 points in 6 games.
task 5:
Center: Geoffrey Allen
Geoffrey Allen has been the pillar and the leader behind the Renegades for way too long now. Texas nearly ended up in the playoffs in front of the Dragons, who ended up winning, and Allen’s stellar play was a huge reason why, still enough to finish 15th in the league in points.
LW – Damien Wert
Damien Wert did so well this season, he might actually make one of the SHL's all star teams despite being on a relatively bad team this season. Wert managed to stay at a PPG pace, with 51 points. He didn't really contribute physically, but it's not like it mattered.
RW – Kristian Eriksson
Kristian Eriksson had a stellar Two-Way season. He managed to clear the 40 point threshold despite being one of only 3 players to clear 210 hits. If there’s a standard for Two-Way players, Eriksson is the exemplar of it.
Defence: Friedrich Müller
He didn't take penalties, gave out some hits, blocked some shots, played some defense, but still managed some incredible scoring from a defenseman, finishing only 2nd among his position to Chris Crutchfield. Muller hasn't slowed down despite being in regression, but unfortunately he will be retiring this season.
D - Rembrandt Q. Einstein
Einstein is one of the most underrated players in the SHL. He never seems to be mentioned as an elite defenseman, but is the most consistent man at his position, and does everything he needs to to help his team succeed.
G - Christoffer Bjornsson - A 2.40 GAA, .910 SV%, 26 wins and 4 shutouts, Christoffer was one of the best goaltenders on one of the most average teams. He played out of his mind this season but still didn't manage to make it. Unfortunate.

TASK ONE: Create a giveaway for a unique piece of playoff memorabilia. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words.
It’s no secret that the New England Wolfpack and their fans all across the SHL were hoping for thrice Challenge Cups in a row this season. To combat the #stress of trying to get said thrice cups, the Wolfpack Adoption Furry Friend League Effort (WAFFLE) has partnered with the team to have foster pups hang in the locker room all throughout their playoff run. As everyone knows, dogs and puppies are great to pet and have around during exam cram time for college students, so the Wolfpack decided to replicate that and get playoff pups. These pups became vital to the team’s livelihood and a few were even adopted by team members who were able to care for them. Five playoff pups, however, are in need of homes still. These were dogs that rolled around the Wolfpack locker room, peed on one of Nathan Russell’s gloves, and even ripped apart one of Jasper Clayton’s prized Rainbow Dash plushies. The five pups will be put up for a special adoption. Interested and qualifying families who are approved by WAFFLE will have their names put in a randomized drawing and five lucky families will get to take home playoff pups furever, free of charge as part of a special playoff “giveaway.”

TASK TWO: What has been the biggest game of the playoffs so far? Can be either SHL or SMHJL, 150 words.
One could argue a few games this playoff season were the biggest, but one that stands out as a do or DIE game would be Round 1, Game 7, with the New England Wolfpack playing on home ice against the Minnesota Chiefs. Many expected the Wolfpack to demolish the Chiefs like they were able to do so easily last season, but the Chiefs said, “NO,” this year and made Wolfpack fans everywhere heavy sweat all through the series until the final moments of game 7. Before this game, the series was tied 3-3. Game 5 was a nightmare of a game with a winner not being decided until third overtime, so fans were praying for that not to happen again with Game 7. The Chiefs opened up Game 7 with a goal in the first period, and then for lolz, put in three more goals into the second period, giving Lord Pretty Flacko a hat trick and three points also for Banananov and two for Simons. All still seemed hopeless even when Buckner opened up scoring for the Wolfpack in the beginning of the second. But then the spirit of the wolf entered the ice and the single goals started pouring in: Makinen, Sherrill, Dominique, and then Bure to make it 5-4 right before the end of the third period. Bure was NOT about that over time life. The Wolfpack won Round 1 with less than two minutes to go in regulation of the third period. It was a comeback game for the ages.

TASK THREE: Write a 150 word radio advert for the S32 Finals Matchup.
Weeeelllllcome! It’s the season 32 playoff FINALS and your Manhattan Rage are coming off a FOUR game winning streak against the back-to-back New England Wolfpack champions. Can the Rage’s fire power outlast the Dragons’ breath? Calgary melted the Edmonton Blizzard by 4-2 in Round 2, and with all-star players like Esa Anrikkanen, Pierre-Luc Laflamme, and goalie Hunter Wong, it sure isn’t the time for the Rage to rest! What will happen next - be there to find out! It all starts live at 7 p.m. EST!

Come out for Game 1 to cheer on your Manhattan Rage, where VLAD McZehrl, Wyat Wollker, Harry Hans, and more of your favorite players are sure to put up a fight! It may be Jason Aittokallio’s first season in the SHL, but what a goalie he’s turning out to be! Witness a star being born in the most important series of the playoffs! We’ll be broadcasting the whole thing live on Rage Radio 101.8, so don’t be late for puck drop!

TASK FIVE: Create an All Star starting lineup of players that did not make the playoffs. Must include a center, two wings, two defence and a goalie. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words.

Center - Geoffrey Allen - Led the Texas Renegades in points (47) and goals (23) this season. Allen was also fifth in league centers. Though his team didn’t make it to playoffs this season, it was not because this all-star didn’t try to put up the points.
Wing - Kristian Eriksson - An important veteran player on the Toronto North Stars, Eriksson is a consistent fantasy league player favorite, and even after twelve seasons in the league, he’s still coming in eighth overall in goals, ninth for right wings, and second in points (41) for the North Stars.
Wing - Damien Wert - Like Eriksson, Wert was in the top ten for league shots, coming in fifth, as well as second in league left wings. He had a career season this past one, leading the North Stars in points (51), second in assists (26), and having a team first overall plus/minus of 16.
Defense - Friedrich Müller - Led the Buffalo Stampede in points (48) and goals (21) this season, along with a 14 plus/minus. It’s too bad this defenseman couldn’t get his team into the playoffs, but the rebuild is sure to be centered around players like Müller.
Defense - Vladimir Lidstrom - This dependable veteran should be a nice partner for Müller, coming in fourth overall in league assists and seconds in points behind his teammate Allen - Lidstrom is still a star.
Goalie - Christoffer Bjornsson- The Texas Renegade’s starting goalie had four shutouts this season, was tied for third in league wins, and managed a .910 save percentage. It’s safe to say he’s all-star ready.

Task 2:
The biggest game of the playoffs so far was easily game 7 between the New England Wolfpack, and the Minnesota Chiefs. In a series that many expected to be over quickly, the Chiefs have managed to take the Wolfpack to 7 games, and in Leafs vs. Bruins fashion, came ever so close to advancing to the next round. The Chiefs leading goal scorer in the regular season (Lord Pretty Flacko) had been shutout so far this series, and was due for a monster game. Heading into the 2nd with a 1-0 lead, Flacko exploded for 3 goals in the first 3 minutes of the period, to put the Chiefs up 4-0. That didn’t let the Wolfpack’s spirts down though, as Buckner would score just 2 minutes later. The Wolfpack would score another by period’s end. Down 4-2 heading into the 3rd, the Wolfpack would score twice to tie it up, and in the last 2 minutes of the game, Bure would win it for them, clinching their spot in the next round.

Task 3:
The Calgary Dragons and the Manhattan Rage are your season 32 Eastern Conference and Western Conference champions. Tune in tonight to see game 1 of this incredible match-up. Some of the players to watch for the Dragons include Randy Randleman, Michael Boychuk, Schnitinfritz Jagr, Alex Mack, Pierre-Luc Laflamme, Bubba Nuck, Nicholas Pedersen, and Esa Anrikkanen, while the players on the Rage that are likely to make an impact over the course of this series are Harry Hans, Wyatt Wøllker, Vlad McZherl, Roy Razin, and Kian Hamilton. The Dragons have much more depth then the Rage, and are probably the favorites heading into this series, especially when you take into consideration the fact that they have gone through the other 3 rounds of the playoffs with ease. This 1st game is huge for Manhattan, who need to get the momentum early on, which has yet to be the case for the Dragons opposition thus far. Tune in tonight for game 1!
