A needed change in Team Latvia management.

The second half of S35 SHL season has come with lots of changes in many IIHF team managements. While some may be more high-profile and some not, there's a one recent change that has happened within 2-time IIHF champions’ office.

There's no denial in the fact that team Latvia is stuck in mediocrity. The last semifinals appearance for the team was whole 10 seasons ago in S25, which was also the last time this northern European country won a gold medal. Old players who brought these wins for this nation have now either retired or are experiencing massive regression, some of the still active players have recreated, leaving the team with limited options as far as the player selection for tournaments goes. That's an issue that concerns me, and I would love to see more players joining our team and bringing it back to being in contention for the cup every season, so I decided to take action myself.
Being in good relationship with the previous management, I expressed interest in becoming the new federation head in hopes of bringing in energy, and I was flattered after hearing a positive response.

The co-GM (or co-head, whatever is the current term for it now) will remain LB. , a well-known user around the site, and definitely with more experience as far as the tactics and lines go, and I hope to maybe learn a thing or two as well.

Speaking about future plans for this team, I will give some main points that I hope I will manage to achieve.
 • Bringing in more young players. Young players who aren't native Latvians quite rarely consider Latvia as a potential nation to transfer to. I hope to change that by improving our recruitment posts and being more personal about reaching out to people in hopes of persuading them to join us. Our current situation is actually quite welcoming for young blood, meaning they could experience IIHF hockey very early in their careers if they decide to play for us.

 • Hopefully attracting experienced recreates who could bring both welcoming locker-room presence and help with making the most out of the group of guys that we have.

 • Eventually contending for the cup. You saw what Germany could do with bringing in new talent and a management that was craving for success. I hope that it could be the case with Latvia as well. Seeing us at the top would make me really happy.

 • And last, but not least, my personal goal is to make a bigger name for me on the site, gaining experience with both managing players and creating lines. I feel like this is a great chance to become familiar at least with the basics of managing, with hopefully moving to become a manager in the SMJHL or even the SHL.

That's it for today,

GO Latvia Latvia Latvia!!!!
