Detroit's 2nd Period Explosion Carries Falcons to Win</div>

Detroit hosted the Kelowna Knights tonight in the Jet Blue Airways Arena. Both teams entered the match with 1-1-0 records in this early season. Penalties were kept to a minimum tonight as both teams engaged in neck-and-neck competition from the first drop of the puck until the final buzzer.

The first period was a bit of a feeling out process for both teams. Neither side generated many shots as both teams struggled to enter and sustain a presence in the offensive zone. Kelowna pivot Janis Doro took a high sticking minor early in the game and on the following powerplay Falcons forward Vijay Singh fired a shot off of the post, just barely missing out on pay dirt.

It was Detroit's turn to take an early period penalty in the 2nd as newly acquired defenseman Hermanis Villy took a slashing minor. Vijay Singh won the initial faceoff, but merely seconds into the powerplay the Knights got on the board with a blast from Eddie Andrezjeck at the blueline. Falcons coach Ben Waters was seen calmly drawing up a play on the bench following the failed penalty kill. A few minutes later, the Barlow brothers crashed the Kelowna net and ended up with a goal credited to Tommy. With the first goals of the game on the board and nearly half of the game played, players on both sides started to let loose and play a high-paced, disciplined game. After some serious back and forth play, the Falcons took the lead off of a Mathias Victorsson goal. Ryan Richter started the play by blocking a shot from Xavier LaFlamme. Detroit forward Jurgis Bulota managed to gather in the rebound and spring a full speed Mathias Victorsson for a breakaway chance. Victorsson skated in close and dangled Kelowna netminder Jay Bae, scoring on the backhand.

As the Falcons took a 2-1 lead, they took all of the momentum in this game. The Falcons immediately set up shop in the offensive zone following the Victorsson goal and within a minute they found themselves up 3-1 after Francesco Belluci gathered in a missed shot and fired a quick wrister. After a shift by Singh's line, Kevin Marks won the faceoff in the offensive zone and again the Falcons began to cycle the puck with crisp passes. Kevin Marks fired a shot from the half-wall and Francesco Belluci scooped up the rebound for his 2nd goal of the night. At the end of two, the Falcons lead the Knights 4-1.

The third period saw Janis Doro and Nour Harrak connect twice for goals in 42 seconds. The Knights did a good job of stopping the bleeding and continued to apply pressure to the Falcons, but it wasn't enough to save them from the 2nd period outburst from the Falcons.

<div align="center">Rookie of the Game

Sigurd Hansen Knights

The defense man Hansen finished the game with an assist and a -1 rating. Although it was a loss, the rookie held great composure on both ends of the rink. He logged almost 3 minutes of penalty kill time and has been relied on greatly by the coach.

Quote:7. Kelowna Knights , Janis Døro 5 (Nour Harrak 3, Sigurd Hansen 2) at 10:21

The assist came in the third period as Kelowna tried to mount a comeback. The first pass of Hansen was directly tape to tape and his forwards went on to score. The defense man logged 21 minutes of ice time and played with great confidence.

TSN Turning Point of The Game

The second period saw Detroit player Ryan Richter block a shot from Kelowna’s Xavier LaFlamme. With Jurgis Bulota picking up the puck and giving a beautiful lead pass to Matthias Victorsson who dangled the goaltender to put the Falcons up 2-1. After that, Kelowna completely fell apart in the defensive zone, giving up two more goals and an insurmountable lead.

That is our TSN Turning Point of The Game

TSN Turning Points

The game could have gone bad for the Falcons when they let the Knights score a goal a couple minutes in to the first period, but the early turning point of the game came when Tommy Barlow tied the score up just two minutes later on. From here on the Falcons would score another 3 goals, enough to stop the Knights despite two late goals from Janis Doro. Without the quick hands and good shot of Tommy Barlow the game may have ended much differently, making this the TSN Turning Point of the game.

After Hours with Gord and Jim!
</div>

Gord: I'm doing the opening today Jim!

Jim: Whatever you feel is best for the team Gord.
G: Jim, tonight we have a game between the Knights and the Falcons, 2 middle pack teams, much like the entire SMJHL, except Vancouver who is mailing it in, and Halifax, who looks strong once again!
J: This game was an absolute bore Gordie, until the second when things got out of hand, and everybody was shooting the puck from everywhere.
G: Exactly Jim, the Falcons decided enough was enough with that first period and exploded for all their goals in the second frame. The Italian stallions Bellucci, and Arrivabene were kicking ass and taking names out there with 2 points each respectively.
J: Yeah Arrivabene has incredible grey hair, I'm sure that helps with, well, everything in his life to be honest Gord, I've been bald for 7 years and never had a point in the SMJHL.
G: Don't steal all my interesting thoughts Jim, I'm pretty sure I texted you that last night while watching the game yea joke stealer!
J: Are you done complaining Gord, we have a game to recap, these guys don't care about your feelings. Doro also had a great game, in a losing effect mind you, with 2 goals in the 3rd to try and bring the Knights a win.
G: Idiot, but yes, Doro seemed to be running around for the Knights doing what he could with 4 shots of his own, while also winning a solid 15 of 25 face offs taken Jim.
J: Kelowna needs to clean up their game if they want to have a chance at that pretty cup this year, but that's about it for us again, thanks for tuning in and listening to a couple of idiots ramble in what the internet likes to call After Hours with Gord and Jim presented by The Puck Bunnies Blog!

Play of the Game
Falcons Francesco Bellucci, RW Falcons

Bellucci was the recipient of the play of the game award for this early season tilt between the Kelowna Knights and the Detroit Falcons. Up by two goals in the second period, Bellucci received a pass from Kevin Marksand streaked into the Kelowna zone. With 48 seconds left in the period, he rifles one upstairs on Jay Bae to put the Falcons up by 3 goals, and too much for the Knights to come back from. He ended the game with two goals and eight shots on net, good enough for the play of the game and first star in my books.
