Although every member of the the St. Louis Scarecrows could individually make the SMJHL All Handsome team, Logan Jensen is truly a genuine stud. Twenty One goals is a laudable feat at this point in the season, being within shooting distance of the top goal-scorer in the league. Plus having 44 points in 43 games is nothing to sneeze at either. That’s over a point per game. Quite impressive compared to my 1 goal and 3 points in 43 games. Dermot Lavelle, another stud from the STL, is leading the league in plus/minus (20). To be fair, that is a tie with 1 other person. He’s also at almost a Point Per Game at 41 points in 43 games. He’s also top ten for assists with 25. Bobby Watson is another true stud who just happens to play for the STL ‘Crows. He’s in the top 10 for plus minus (39). The top guys on our team are quite good, if the bottom 6 could start producing, we could definitely be one of the top teams in the league. Maybe we can take some hunk lessons from the top guys on our team to become true handsome gentlemen aka “Handsey Boyz”. 202

After a blockbuster trade that sent most of the Colorado Mammoth’s top players to Prince George Firebirds, there aren’t very many players on the Mammoth that would be consider a top player in this league at the moment. The Mammoth do have a star player in top line center, Dean Youngblood, who has 18 goals and 42 points through 43 games. This puts him in sole possession of 10th in the SMJHL scoring race. However, there are no other Mammoth players with 30 points or more with the second most being Chase Byron with 4 goals and 25 assists for 29 points. There are only 3 Mammoth players that have scored more than 10 goals so far this season, that being Youngblood, TJ Bayley, who has 11, and rookie Karsten Kadinger who has 10. With 37 players you would expect each team to have aroung 4-5 if the league had perfect parity. The Mammoth have clearly gone for a rebuild with the trade they made and the point totals of the mostly rookie squad is reflecting that. This is a young team that just needs some time for their younger players to develop into the players they were drafted to be. I believe in about 2-4 seasons, the Mammoth will finally have the depth they need to support the high end talent that will develop out of the draft, which, after the big trade this season, will lot chances to acquire.

Quote:Write 200 words about your team's top performing player or players. How good are they compared to other top performing players in the league? Must include at least 3 stats from the SIM.

The Kelowna Knights are currently in third place of the standings which is amazing. Just the other day we were at 5th place and now we catching up to the leaders in the league. The 3 players that I feel that are performing nicely are: Jacob Dorty®, Fenton Uriel ® and Xavier LaFlamme

Jacob Dorty is one of the most underdog players we got on our team, the most improved player by far is Jacob Dorty. He rose with points and his overall performance on the team increased exponentially. He currently has 8 Goals and 8 Assists and he's SHT is at 46 which puts him as one of the top 3 rookies in our team.

Fenton Uriel always has been a black horse of the league, of course, being one of the top 5 overall picks in the whole league. It really shows with his stats as he is the number one rookie in the Knights at the moment. He currently has 5 Goals and 14 Assists and he's HIT is at 96 which is the second best on our entire team.

Xavier LaFlamme isn't near the top of our team but he is the number one player to get the most hat tricks in the league which really boosted the teams' morale. I feel like it was more impactful knowing we had such a reliable person on our team and it was during the beginning of the league too which is an important time for all of us. He currently has 15 Goals and 15 Assists and he's SHT is at a whopping 124 which really makes me feel like I still got a long way to go.

As the season draws to a close, it appears the Francesco Bellucci has clinched the points lead for the team. Playing his 4th season with the Falcons the left winger has amassed 45 points in 46 games played, with 22 goals and 23 assists. Bellucci’s discipline has helped him this season taking only 3 minor penalty’s, with over 19 minutes average playtime per game. Bellucci’s 22 goals put’s him tied for second place for goals scored, behind Blåbär Bananerström of PGF with a total of 27 goals in 46 games.

In second place of the points table is the Finnish defenseman Tatu Mäkelä, with 41 points, 11 goals, and 30 assists, Mäkelä currently holds the 5th place spot for assists tied with Inari Twain of MTL. Paddy Kane-Rielly of the Firebirds is running away with the lead with a whopping 38 assists. Even with his high points total Tatu Mäkelä is currently sitting at a +/- of 0

Kevin Marks trails ever so slightly behind with 40 points, 13 goals, and 27 assists.
These 3 players have formed a consistent core for the team, providing a strong and stable offense. However, when we look at Detroit this season it is the strong and stable defence that has led to their success.

If I was writing this a week ago I’d be telling you how Bar Downski would be the Raider’s top player. How he was one of the lone bright spots on a team full of rookies that was showing them the way. Well he was traded, so he’s out of the running. Instead the attention turns to the rookies, more specifically Yannick Berger, the team’s top rookie (and one of the best rookies in the league), as the top player on the team. He has been the top center for the Raiders, originally on a line with Bar Downski and Kevin Hamilton, but now flanked by fellow rookies Geoff Higgins and Konstantin Kostoyevskiy. Right now, Berger leads all rookies in points, with 27 on the season. He is also 9th among all centers in points, showing that he is hanging around with the best of them. An underrated stat is the short-handed goals statistic, it doesn’t happen often, but it can be a boost to the penalty kill if you can score one, and Berger has done exactly that, he is tied for the lead with 2 short-handed goals this season. This shows he has the ability to turn a penalty kill into points, and put the team down on what should be a chance for them to gain ground, or extend leads. A statistic that Berger could do better in is face-off percentage, which right now he has a percentage of 48.91. Now, part of this can be explained by him being thrust into first line center duties, facing guys who have much more experience and quite simply are better. So while Yannick hasn’t been the best center in the league (he’s a rookie facing 2nd and even 3rd year guys, so it’s going to be hard for him to claim the best center spot, but the best rookie spot is a much more realistic goal for the center out of Austria. The Halifax Raiders are now a team made up almost exclusively of rookies. While this bleak season will hopefully soon be forgotten by the Raider Nation, in order to win the remaining games, the inexperienced team must rely on some of its young players to lead the pack. One of these players is Jon Toner. The Irish defenseman has been a bright spot for the Raiders, scoring 23 points in 48 games. This puts him second on the team and scoring, and third among rookie defensemen in the SMJHL. His offensive prowess is particularly prominent on the power play, where his 5 goals and 6 assists lead both the Raiders in power play points and all SMJHL rookies. However, Toner is not just an offensive juggernaut from the blueline, he is a well-rounded, two-way defenseman capable of defending well in the Raiders zone. His +/- is -2. which is 4th best on the struggling team, and best among those with comparable ice time. He also leads the Raiders in minutes played on the penalty kill with 124. The Raiders' reliance on his all-around ability to lead the team in most aspects result in Toner having the heaviest workload of all SMJHL rookies, averaging 21.8 minutes per game. He represents the bright future of the Halifax Raiders, and is sure to catch the attention of many SHL scouts.

The St. Louis Scarecrows have been a middling team throughout the season. However, one of the players that stands out to me statistically is Logan Jensen. Jensen currently leads the Crows with 22 goals, good enough for 7th best in the entire league. Due to luck or unfortunate circumstances, he is also 2nd best in the league in total shots at 187, behind only Connor Tanner of the Montreal Militia who has 206. This has meant that had a few shots or missed chances gone his way, Jensen would likely place much higher in goals scored. A shot percentage of 11.76% is absolutely abysmal when compared with the bottom player of the top ten league wide, Prince George Firebird Blåbär Bananerström, who has converted 16.57% of his shots. Despite his own issues with consistency, he has been overall solid enough to put 46 points on the board, 5th in the league for the right wing position.Undeniably, Dermot Lavelle at center has helped him tremendously; winning 55.55% of his faceoff attempts have secured key possessions at critical moments for the Crows and put games in the hands of play makers like Jensen or Bobby Watson. The chemistry on offense is there for St. Louis to achieve lasting success in the playoffs, and hopefully make a deep run past the first round.

As a Rookie defenseman, I look up to the greatest D-man on the team. Tatu Mäkelä is his name, and racking up the points is his game. Although in fact, it's his job. And he does it so well. He's the highest-scoring defenseman on the team, and is in fact second in points overall across the entire team. Not bad, for a second-year player with the prime of his career ahead of him.

Racking up 11 goals and 30 assists in 50 games played, that's 0.82 points per game. Impressive indeed. On a team so often penalised as Detroit, his 28 PIM are about average, but certainly trending towards the lower percentile. (Of course, when you have rookie centreman Grayson St. Raegan with a whopping 57PIM, everyone else looks like the cleanest players ever in comparison.

Not afraid to play his body, Mäkelä has a very nice 69 hits, and 57 shots blocked too. He gobbles up the minutes, playing a total of 1160, averaging 23:20 per game. That's the most of any defenseman on the team.

What else can be said of this defensive legend in the making? Yes, he has other stats that I can quote, but I think most importantly is that he's a great guy in the locker room. Got questions or concerns? He'll help you out because he's been there and done it all before you. Great guy. Great teammate.

Detroit has a lot of top tier talent as they are always finding hidden gems in the draft. It is easy to see why we have been so successful as of late. The season has finally come to an end and it is easy to evaluate the teams top performers. The Falcons have 4 players with more than 40 points and 6 with more than 30 points. Among these top performers was defenseman Tatu Mäkelä. Mäkelä was a force on the Detroit blue line. The defenseman finished 3rd in the league in points among defenseman with 11 goals and 30 assists for a total of 41 points. He also had a team high 57 blocked shots on the season. The Falcons also has rookie standout Bob Bergen on their blue line. He finished 7th in rookie scoring with 1 goal and 21 assists. Forwards Kevin Marks, Francesco Bellucci, and Mathias Victorsson also made their mark on the season. Marks and Bellucci finished with 44 and 50 points respectively while leading the Falcons to a 2nd place finish in the SMJHL. Victorsson was one of the 6 players with 30+ points for the Falcons and he also lead the league in shooting percentage at%. While these guys were a big reason we made it to the playoffs with a first round bye, it is going to take everyone to capture the repeat Four Star Cup.

Top Players –

Connor Tanner - This one should be no shock as Connor Tanner turned out to be one of the best players in the league this season. His impressive 60PTs in 50 games, as he was a catalyst for the Militia even while playing this season out of position.

Fredrich Koenig/Jim Elliot – This pairing gets to share everything, but one thing they definitely shared was a successful rookie season. The 2nd pairing tandem proved they can play solid D, and also help the team put points on the board. This tandem will be one to watch in their second season in the SMJHL as they should continue to dominate offenses.

Cedric Moreau – This rookie goaltender shined from the very beginning, putting up a winning season with an almoy .900 save percentage as a true rookie. Look for the Milita to bank on the play of Moreau and the Koenig Elliot combo in the upcoming season, they will be the key to keeping Montreal relevant with the departure of Connor Tanner.

Romualds Loks- While Loks wasn’t really jumping of the paper this 5th round draft pick had times to shine, and took advantage of them. Look for the Militia to build the forward corps around Loks which will provide more success.

After the trade deadline, it was clear that the Halifax Raiders were in full rebuild mode. With the departures, it was left to the rookies to be the leaders and top performing players. One in particular was Yannick Berger. Given that it is his first year in the league, I feel it is unfair to compare him with the more experienced players. That having been said, his 27 points were not only good enough to be the highest scoring rookie, he was also the 9th highest scoring centre in the league. This on a team that was, to put it kindly, a little goal shy. Not only this, but Berger contributed on special teams. His two goals tallied when down a man was enough to place him joint at the top of the standings. With the older heads now having departed for pastures new, the Raider Nation will be looking towards Berger to become a leader on the team on and off the ice. One thing that will need to be worked upon next year is perhaps to add a few more goals to his game but this is something that the team as a whole will be looking to do.

The season just ended and let’s just say the results were very disappointing and quite shocking. There was a lot of expectations for this Colorado squad this season. They finished 3rd a year ago and with most of their core coming back, winning the cup seemed possible. And yet, the team missed the playoffs. A lot of things went wrong, but the main factor has to be the veterans who didn't show up this season. These are still pretty young players whose expectations were to be in the SHL this season and didn’t make it is not easy to take. Guys like Daedric Heikennin, Wolf Von Hammersmark, Alexander Zajac and TJ Bailey were supposed to be dominant players on the Mammoths top 6. None of them ended up with a PPG and Colorado was 3rd last for goals for with a total of 146. The defensemen squad did overall pretty decently but no one really stood out. It was a pretty young group who made a lot of rookie mistakes but were bailed out by the guy I easily consider mvp of this year's team.

That man was the heart and soul from the beginning of the season up until when he was traded to PSG. It is pretty obvious who I'm talking about, team captain and goaltender Aleksandr Aleksandrov. He's the only one who showed up night in and night out to keep this team on the playoff run as long as he could. Once he got traded, the team had a record of 3-7 with multiple games allowing 4+ goals. At first sight, his season stats aren't nothing exceptional. He posted a 88.4 save percentage and a goal against of 2.93. The team was allowing a lot of scoring chances, he was ranked number 2 for shots against, just behind Cedric Moreau. Once Aleksandr played on his new team he posted a 90.0 save percentage, which is 10% better than the number one place Evgueni Marmeladov. Sure, it's a small sample size but you can easily imagine him having the best stats in the league if he played on a good squad all season long.
