PGS Game 33: Colorado vs. Anchorage
#16

Goaltending performance review:

Benjamin Blue (Anchorage): A decent performance for the Armada goalkeeper, Blue made 34 saves on 38 shots to keep the Armada in this game. They were badly outshot, and Blue’s key saves helped the team earn a point despite falling in overtime. If he continues to play solid hockey, you’d have to assume the Armada will pick up the wins.

Scottey Crawfling (Colorado): Crawfling didn’t have the best performance against the Armada, but he made enough saves to earn his team the win. With his 23 saves against Anchorage, he was able to earn his second win of the season. Crawfling will have to step up his game if he and the Raptors are going to compete this season and make some noise in the playoffs.

Punching Bag Of The Game
Grayson St. Raegan

Grayson St. Raegan has the honor of being the first three-named recipient of the Punching Bag Of The Game award. Hit an immensely massive seven times, St. Raegan holds the top spot on our list for the season for being hit the most times. Three of those times were by Game 1 award winner, Zakhar Turakov, dishing out what he formerly took. Also happening three times was Grayson losing the puck after being hit. He looked wobbly on his skates, and teammates interviewed after the game suspected he might have been on some strong painkillers to get through his shifts.

Goalie Grades:

Scottey Crawfling (COL): 23 saves on 26 shots, .885 Save Percentage
1st period: 8 saves on 10 shots
2nd period: 11 saves on 12 shots
3rd period: 4 saves on 4 shots
Overtime: No shots faced
Goalie grade: C+

Benjamin Blue (ANC): 34 saves on 38 shots, .895 Save Percentage
1st period: 11 saves on 12 shots
2nd period: 6 saves on 6 shots
3rd period: 14 saves on 16 shots
Overtime: 3 saves on 4 shots
Goalie grade: C

Goalie of the game: Scottey Crawfling
This was a tough choice, as Blue was definitely the better goaltender in the first half of the game. However, Crawfling got into a groove and held on for the overtime win, a tough job but an important one, giving him the edge as the better goalie in my eyes.

Golden Horshoe Award

Colorado were very lucky that Anchorage doesn't know a gift when they see one. The Armada had 8 power plays and only managed to capitalize on 1 of those! Props to the Raptors penalty kill unit who were essentially short-handed for an entire period of the game.

Anchorage did manage to get a two goal lead 3-1 heading into the third. The Raptors took advantage when the Armada let up managing to tie it up midway through the third thanks to Phillipp Winter. Anchorage looked spent in overtime as Tony Pepperoni made it look easy. Raptors win 4-3. Anchorage needs to tighten up their special teams after this one.

Welcome to the 7th edition of the Shot Blocker of the game award. In this game we had the first ever repeat winner. Ladies and Gentlemen, your Shot Blocker of the Game is Nico Wallner Colorado Raptors.

Wallner had 4 blocked shots in the Raptors win over the Armada including the biggest 2 with about 45 seconds left to go in the 2nd period. The Armada were pushing hard at the doorstep up 2-1 and knocking. Wallner gave up his body not once but twice before Tucker Baloo picked up that rebound and put it past the tender. Wallner could be seen verbally blasting a couple of his teammates that he felt may have been in position to make a play and not waste Wallner putting his body on the line for the team twice in one possession. The Raptors took that pep talk from Wallner and turned it into 3 unanswered goals to win the game 4-3

Blues' Goon of the Game

You don’t just win Goon of the Game out of the blue. It’s a lifestyle. You’ve gotta grind for these honours, and that is exactly what today’s Goon of the Game, Derek Deffner did. This guy caught a double minor for roughing in the second and served his time for it. Deffner racked up 14 minutes of ice time en route to his Goon of the Game crowning and maintained a balanced game, adding a shot and a hit. To play like this, you’ve gotta play it out on limited minutes and instill a fear of yourself in your opponents. Derek Deffner can do exactly that, night in, night out.

Pivonka's Pick

The Raptors took on the Armada and while the score couldn't be any closer, the player of the game for me was the man with no points: Grayson St. Reagan. Grayson finished the night with just 2 shots and a minus one rating but I got to be honest, he should be commended. With nearly 25 minutes played, you would expect that to be a disappointing stat line but where he redeems himself is in the faceoff circle. At the dot, Reagan went 28/37. That's not a typo. He won 27 faceoffs in a single game! There is no better way to help your team win that to control the puck that much.
