PGS Game 39: Halifax Raiders vs Anchorage Armada
#16
(This post was last modified: 08-10-2018, 05:00 PM by Bonk.)

Game 39 between the Halifax Raiders and the Anchorage Armada was highlighted by an incredible display of goaltending by Geezus Kryyst of the Halifax Raiders. However, you are not here to read about that as fantastic as it was. You are here to read about Roly Rollerson. Roly was a force on the ice for Halifax that evening and he got no love for it. Mr. Rollerson had one goal, was a plus two. Not to mention that Geezus Kryyst should really thank Mr. Rollerson for leading the Halifax Raiders in blocked shots that evening.

Roly had two very timely shot blocks, shot that may have changed the outcome of the game and that is why you are here to read about Roly Rollerson.

Goaltending Review

Benjamin Blue (ANC): This is what we in the business call a poor performance. You can't give up three goals on 25 shots to a team like Halifax and expect to win the game. The first goal of the game, a powerplay shot from Maximilian Egger. took the life out of the arena just 3 minutes into the game. Blue needs to do better if Anchorage are going to make the playoffs and put up a fight for the Four Star Cup.

Geezus Kryyst (HFX): Contrary to how his opponent performed, Kryyst put in a spectacular performance against the Armada, making 32 saves on 33 shots to earn his team a quality and important win as they drive towards a playoff spot this season.

Armada Fall Short

Anchorage came out very aggressive in the first period outshooting Halifax 13 to 5. Yet they were still down by 2 goals after the first period thanks to goals from Egger and Cile. Benjamin Blue looked off tonight.

Rollerson gave Halifax a three goal lead in the second and Anchorage looked deflated. Shots were even for the period and the Armada loomed exhausted.

McGirthensons put Anchorage on the board in the third period but it wasn't mucb good. Halifax outclassed Anchorage throughout the game and killed off 4 penalties to boot.

Anchorage had a decent performance with the penalty kill unit stopping five of six. Silver lining I guess.

Welcome back to the 6th edition of the Shot Blocker of the Night! Tonights winner is Roly Rollerson of the Halifax Raiders!

Roly was the top earner of PK time tonight and he showed up in a big way denying the Armada not once but twice with his body. The highlight of the night in that department was late in the 2nd period with the Armada's captain McLovin moving into the zone, he winds up for a wicked slapper and Rollerson just took it right off the dome. You could literally see the dent in his helmet as he skated off the ice. Thankfully reports from the locker room were quick and Clear, Rollerson took it and it didn't even shake him! The game remained 3-0 after that and helped keep the momentum in Raider favor on the way to the W.

Blues' Goon of the Game

Our Goon of the Game tonight belongs to a player who shows some physicality, and some offensive prowess! Kyle Corbett played 18:20, and was able to notch his fourth assist of the season, while picking up a couple of roughing minors (absolute BEAUTY). And not only did he pick up points. Not only did he rough some Armada boys up. But his guys goes out there and grabs a plus two rating for his efforts, along with a shot, hit, and a blocked shot. Kyle Corbett, keep an eye out for the name folks. He is a lock for Goon of the Game going forward, and could be a legitimate force in the future.

Pivonka's Pick

Halifax picked up a much needed win over Anchorage by a score of 3-1 and there is no doubt the player of the game was Geezus Kryyst the Halifax goalie who came up with a monster 32 saves on 33 shots. His sixth win of the year, Kryyst earned his .970 save percentage by only allowing a late 3rd period shutout spoiler. Halifax killed all four shorthanded attempts and that made the difference. Halifax has had a difficult season but has to keep getting big game performances by Geezus if they're going to get back in the playoff hunt. The Raiders are a young team and with that comes inconsistency, but solid netminding makes up for a lot of shortcomings.
