Team Germany Announces Captains for S44 IIHF Tournament

Team Germany has announced their leadership team for the S44 IIHF Tournament. Roster players, prospects, and alumni were all given a chance to decide who they wanted to be the faces of this year’s team. To announce the leadership group, the new Team Germany Federation Head, Johnny Hamilton, addressed the media alongside his captains.

It was no surprise when Dieter Dominique @bilbo was selected to serve as team captain for his final hurrah for Germany. Dominique will retire at the conclusion of the tournament, as bilbo continues on their management career with the young Dominic Montgomery. Dominique will likely feature prominently as a leader and offensive performer for the Germans.

The team selected super soldier, do-it-all top defender Ludwig Koch Schroeder @Rabidsponge21  as the first alternate captain. LKS has been a fixture on the Team Germany roster for many seasons and should continue to dominate in international play. He’s also been active in the team Discord giving feedback to new members of the team.

Finally, defenseman Zander Rhys @ThePandava  will round out the leadership team. Team Germany has a wealth of experience and talent on the blueline, so it was natural that multiple rearguards would feature in the formal leadership.

“We’re excited for this year’s tournament,” new Fed head and player agent Johnny Hamilton told the media. “We’re in a transitional period as many stalwart members of Team Germany are reaching the end of their careers, but we have a strong group of young players ready to secure the next era of German hockey excellence.”

When asked to comment on lineup decisions, Hamilton was coy. “We are trying a lot of things in practices, to see what might work best. We will definitely attempt to our depth on the blue line whenever possible and are playing with some players in new roles, to see what sticks.”

Regarding the youth lower in the lineup, Hamilton’s praise was effusive. “I’ve been very impressed at how the trio of former Colorado Raptors forwards, Tony Pepperoni, Andrew Martin, and Philipp Winter have played together. They have clear chemistry from their time together, and have learned a lot from ending their careers with other SMJHL teams. I think all three will be great SHL pros and mainstays in IIHF competition for a long time. Further, @RomanesEuntDomus, @Good_Ole_Kimmy and @"TommySalami" are great additions to the German system and locker room.”

“I’m very excited about our goaltending position. Geezus Kryyst and Benjamin Blue are both amazing young goalies that have us well equipped for a long time. We will continue to have them battle and make each other better, now and in the future.”

Several reporters peppered Hamilton with questions about his top hockey client, Cassius Darrow. The young defender has been the talk of the SMJHL for much of this past year, leading the retooling Raptors with 29 points. He will likely be a first-round pick in the upcoming SHL S45 Draft. When asked why Darrow was among the first cuts from Team Germany camp, Hamilton pulled no punches.

“Look at our defense—we have six guys over 1000 TPE on the roster, with two others over 800. This is a really deep, strong group. Cassius will get his chance, but he’s not good enough yet. I expect WJC GM @Noble to select him for the Germany-Austria World Junior Championships team alongside fellow rookies Alexander Selich, Sanyi Kocsis, Nickolas Klaus, and Nolan Sawchuk. Beyond that, I talked with Cassius about this and he understood. He’s a very proud young man who loves his home country. He wants to continue working hard, in hopes of one day making the roster and representing the nation well.”
