VHLM draft media week bonus

Jay Boom 'Boom has always been a gritty defenseman that other teams hated playing against. Before being eligible for the SMJHL draft, the Norwegian spent 2 seasons playing for Nidaros Hockey U18. It was during those two seasons that Boom ’Boom proved to the SMJHL scouts he had what it takes to play in the SMJHL. During his time playing for Nidaros, he played in 60 games where he tallied 5 goals & 36 assists. However, possibly his best stat was his incredible plus minus of +39!

On February 19th, 2019 all of his hard work paid off as he was selected in the 6th round by the Lethbridge Lions!! Today, we have an exclusive interview with the Norwegian native as he sits down to discuss the draft.

Interviewer: First off, how does it feel to finally be drafted into the SMJHL?

Jay Boom ‘Boom: Honestly, I still can't believe it's real! I have dreamed about this moment all my life and I am very proud to joining the Lethbridge Lions.

Interviewer: Was there ever any doubt last night that you may not get drafted?

Jay Boom ‘Boom: No not really, I was confident that at least one GM would see that I have a high defensive IQ & also can play the physical side of the game.

Interviewer: What are your goals for this upcoming season?

Jay Boom ‘Boom: My main goal is to help our team be strong defensively and make strong offensive teams cringe. Also, I want to see our team succeed and chase down that championship.

Interviewer: Also, we heard one of your childhood friends was in the draft last night, tell us more.

Jay Boom ‘Boom: Yes, I grew up playing with Jason Kruger in Norway. He has always been like a brother to me so to see him go in the third round was a huge moment! I wish him the best of luck with Colorado and can't wait to see him on the ice!

Interviewer: Lastly, how excited are you for the preseason?

Jay Boom ‘Boom: I am so excited to finally step on the ice and show everyone what Jay Boom ‘Boom is all about! I am also very interested to start playing with this great group of guys and to find out who my new defensive partner will be!
