Barret McCarthy's path to the SHL was never an easy one. Growing up in the shadow of his older brother, Cloud McCarthy, and then watching him sadly fizzle out, Barret was told by many people that his fate would be the same, or worse, than his brother's was. Despite this, Barret continued to train, and hone his skills, sometimes purposely not calling his parents to pick him up so that he could get extra time on the ice after school or on weekends. His skills improved, and his scoring and defensive numbers surpassed his brother's through high school, which caught the attention of his coaches and fellow teammates, as well as a few SMJHL scouts. The rest beyond that has yet to be told, but it took several strained muscles, long nights, weekends, and and extreme lack of sleep to push Barret McCarthy into the SHL, and that same dedication pushes him still, wondering what he can achieve...
