S46 PT #1 - SHL! True Hollywood Story

The SHL documentary I’d most want to see would be the story of Big Manious. A seventh-round SMJHL Draft selection in Season 21, and the 27th overall pick in the Season 22 SHL Entry Draft, Manious was the definition of an unheralded prospect. Nonetheless, he became one of the most feared defensemen in SHL history. Standing at 6’9” and 265 pounds, Manious lived up to his name on the ice and made an equally sizable impact with his game. One of the top shot-blockers of all time, Manious also racked up 2,252 hits over his 18-season SHL career.

The documentary could cover several intriguing angles of Manious’ career. How did such a low-profile prospect become one of the most feared players in the league? Did Manious never get his due as a defensive defenseman in a league that focuses so heavily on offensive production? It would also discuss how the Manious name has become ingrained in the fabric of the Winnipeg Jets, one of the league’s truly historic franchises. Not only was Manious part of two Challenge Cup championships (a young budding player for Leafs4Ever’s last Cup, while a cagey veteran for the S37 champions coming during the Jets’ new era), but now Big’s son Lil’ Manius was part of the Season 44 Challenge Cup champions.
