Game 148
Crows vs. Knights
Scarecrows vs. Knights

668 words

Meeting for the second time this season, St. Louis looked to get revenge for the first game and get their first win against Kelowna this season. With all 5 of their meetings coming after the halfway mark of the season, the Crows and Knights season series has the potential to get quite rough, as each team gets fed up with one another. Kelowna won the first game in an easy fashion, strutting out to a 3-1 first period lead, and ending up winning 6-3. How will the teams fare here?

Period 1: Like their previous meeting, the first period started out fast, with the Crows dominant top line of Muller, Kandinsky, and Blackwood putting in a shift in the Knights zone. The Crows second line fed off this, continuing to apply pressure and forcing Prince Devitt to take a minor penalty for tripping. Well, out come that dominant first line again, and 2:41, it was 1-0 Crows thanks to Blackwood. However, the Knights were able to withstand the Crows early pressure, settling the game back down. At the 10:53 mark, the Crows third line was reeling after icing the puck during a long shift. The Knights' Barbashev II was able to capitalize, tying the game at 1. Momentum was now firmly on the Knights side, and just shortly before the final minute of the 1st, Engel scored to make it 2-1 Kelowna.

Period 2: The second period started out quite similar to the first, as Mika won the draw. A quick shift change 15 seconds later saw the Crows put out their second line, which was a good call, as 29 seconds later, the Crows second line winger, Ronlain, made it 2-2, and the Crows were fired up. Coach Crow went immediately back to the top line, and some offensive pressure saw the KNights take another lazy penalty, this time for holding Mika Kandinsky. 1:02 into the powerplay and the Crows managed to take a 3-2 lead, as the Crows' deadly top line struck again on the PP. Not yet done, the Crows kept flying at their opposition, hemming the Knights in their own zone for long periods of time. Not even 4 minutes later, the Crows scored their third of the period, with Muller getting his first of the game. This top line can't be tamed. Continuing on, the Knights managed to stop the bleeding, cutting the two goal lead in half only 22 seconds later when Novotny slid one by Vitalievich. Thats 4 goals in the first 6 minutes of the second period, for those counting at home. With the ice tilted in nobody's favour, some back and forth hockey began to get played. This came to an end when underrated Crow rookie who deserves more ice time (no bias... at all) Hernadivic scored the Crows fourth of the period, restoring their two goal lead. This chased starting Knights goalie Thorstrom from the game, and in came rookie defenseman goalie Rob Blake. The Crows absolutely peppered the Knights this period, outshooting them 18-5.

Period 3: The third period began with the Crows leading 5-3. Some sloppy hockey ensued, with the goalies actually playing good, stopping the first 12 shots they faced. However, at the 15:24 mark, the Knights put another one on the board, thanks to Scherbak. Of course, it wouldnt be a Crows game this season without a little sphincter tightening as the end of the game approached. 5-4 coming into the final minutes, Vitalievich made a couple key stops, and for some reason, with their goalie still in net, Muller buried an ugly goal to put the game on ice with 9 seconds left.

Final Score 6-4 St. Louis

(Losing) Player of the Game

Simon LeBlanc (D) – Despite never actually scoring in this game against the St Louis Scarecrows, Simon LeBlanc managed to achieve three points. His first came during the first period on Andrey Barbashev II's goal, also assisted by Gylfi Eriksson, in what was the Kelowna Knights first goal of the game. He also assisted on Josef Novotny's second period goal, helped by Tah Puhcheese, and on Aleksandr Scherbak's third period, helped by Piotr Horvat. LeBlanc was the highest scoring player on the team and tied for the highest scoring player of the game with St Louis' Lyle Odelein III and Nicolaj Muller.
