The Season 74 SMJHL MVP race is coming down to the wire with an ever-shrinking list of names. We'll take a look at the three most likely candidates.

Jeff Hunziker led the entire league in points (97) and was 2nd in goals (54). Hunziker did not play the most physical game, but proved more than adequate at the faceoff dot (51.8% win rate over the season).

Langston Hardison-Laurent posted an incredibly similar stat line, with 95 points and 55 goals (league best) on the season. LHL proved to be much better at taking care of the puck with a net 21 giveaways (compared to a net 43 for Hunziker). LHL was used strictly as a winger, losing out in the faceoffs category, but making up for it with volume of hits and shots on goal.

Just Perfection blew the competition out of the water with a league best .913 sv% among goalies with >30 games played. Perfection wasn't truly perfect in net, yet still they topped the charts with a GSAA of nearly 35. The next closest goalie is ~15 GSAA behind, with the rest of the group lagging behind substantially.

MVP is always a tough award because people can get very hung up on their definition of valuable. While there are a few players that have had an MVP calibre regular season, there is one I believe should take the crown as the league's most valuable player this season.

Langston Hardison-Laurent led the SMJHL in goals and finished 2 points shy of the league lead on a 5th place team. In fact, they had no teammates close to them in the scoring race. It is evident that LHL was the offensive heartbeat of the Yukon Malamutes and given the support other major stars had internally, I believe they should win.

Rounding out the finalist ballot should be Jeff Hunziker, the scoring champion who came close to winning the goal scoring race as well, and Shadow Fenix, who combined a massive offensive season with incredible defensive play and special teams advantage for the Colorado Raptors. All deserving of an award, although only one can be had.

Jeff Hunziker - As someone who only netted 17 points throughout the season I definitely hold the belief that points don't tell the whole story but they certainty tell at least 1 chapter. Nobody netted as many points as Jeff who fell just 3 more to reach 100. He lead the league and led way to some of the clinics QCC put on the rest of the league on their way to the first seed.

Trevor Lahey - The Detroit Falcons had an amazing season, a well built team that some have favorited to win the cup, they were lead by their center who was able to tally 87 (GOAT reference) points. He also had a respectable +17 as he guides the Falcons into the playoffs full of hope.

Bog Damsel - This one is out there but my fellow 4th liner needs some respect. Despite being a great defensive minded player, bog started to get into a rhythm of point scoring, managing to get 26, for a 4th line primary defender this was very impressive. The mid season addition to QCC deserves to be recognized.
