S29 PT #5 - Rookies vs Senddowns
#16

Center - Nucky Toohoots Falcons

Centering the rookie teams top line will be two-way standout Nucky Toohoots. Toohoots has played a key role for Detroit in her rookie season. Toohoots has recorded 14 goals and 17 assists, making her one of the most dangerous weapons in the Falcons arsenal. Toohoots has great size and is very responsible in the defensive zone. Toohoots is capable of neutralizing opposing scoring threats and make the opposition pay with her great shot.

Left Wing - Nolan Angelo :impact:

Skating on the top line at left-wing will be Montreal Impact star, Nolan Angello. Nolan Angello has taken the SMJHL by storm and has quickly become the focal point of opposing teams defensive strategies. Angello is an offensive wizard with the puck and is solid defensively as well. Angello's biggest weapon is a laser like wrist shot. Nolan leads the Impact with 21 goals and 20 assists.

Right Wing - Frans Erichsen Scarecrows

Frans Erichsen is a lock for not only the SMJHL's rookie of the year, It's looking like he's a lock for the league's Most Valuable Player award as well. Erichsen was a econnd round pick by the St. Louis Scarecrows and has absolutely taken the SMJHL by storm. Erichsen leads the entire league with 27 goals and 51 points. Erichsen has been solid defensively as well, Erichsen's +19 rating is tied for second on the Scarecrows behind Alexander Charlyb'y

Defense - Victor Lindstrom raiders

Manning one point and playing a shutdown defensive role will be Halifax Raiders defenseman Victor Lindstrom. Lindstrom signed with the Raiders as a undrafted free agent and has been a huge find for the Halifax organization. Lindstrom has scored 2 goals and added 19 assists. Lindstrom is tied for second on the Raiders with a +12 plus/minus rating. Where Victor shines is in the defensive zone. Lindstrom has blocked 65 shots, good for third in the league.

Defense - Colin Banning raiders

Lindstrom's Raiders teammate Colin Banning will be paired with him on the blue-line. The Raiders took Banning in the first round of the draft, despite the rookie defenseman being relatively unknown and not being heavily scouted. The Raiders faith has been rewarded by Banning who has been a great presence inside of the locker room and has established himself as one of the very top prospects available for the upcoming SHL draft. Banning plays an excellent all-around game and has started to show a lot of progress on the ice. The Raiders rely on Banning to play in all situations.

Goalie - Ace Dafoe Firebirds

Starting in goal will be Prince George netminder Ace Dafoe. Dafoe has not seen action in very many games, but he has been impressive when given the chance to start. Dafoe has outperformed Michael McFadden when given the chance and he will be given an opportunity to be his teams go-to guy in the rookies vs. send-downs tournament. Not sure if he's related to Lord Byron Dafoe.

621 words, I have no regrets

While there were many exemplary rookies this season, there are a select few that stand above the rest. We take this time now to recognize these special players, and their contributions to their teams and to the league. Though being fresh faced and lacking in experience, this rookie all-star team will have no problem challenging the send downs when they face off in the upcoming all-star game.
Let's take a look at the starting lineup for our freshman sensations!

Nolan Angello Militia - Nucky Toohoots Falcons - Frans Erichsen Scarecrows

Cara Hohenberg Knights - Kelly Rivet Scarecrows

Ace Dafoe Firebirds

LW - Nolan Angello Militia - GP: 48 || G: 21 || A:20 || P: 41
Nolan Angello has proved himself as an elite talent in this league this season. Despite playing on the second line for the very deep Montreal Militia, Angello leads his team in points and goals. Angello is also what one might call a powerplay wizard, as he leads the entire league in powerplay points with 16. This guy is an offensive dynamo, and his numbers show that.

C - Nucky Toohoots Falcons - GP: 48 || G: 14 || A: 18 || P: 32
After somewhat of a slow start to the season, Toohoots has really climbed the rookie scoring totem pole during the final stretch of this season. Playing 3rd and 4th line minutes with PP time, it really isn't a surprise to see Toohoots doing so well in his limited time. Many expect an even greater contribution to his team next year when he will no doubt be playing a bigger role on the Falcons' roster.

RW - Frans Erichsen Scarecrows - GP: 48 || G: 27 || A: 25 || P: 52
What more is there to say about Erichsen's season beyond his stat line? Leading the entire league in both goals and points by a fair margin, Erichsen is without a doubt a premiere talent. While his numbers might be inflated due to an above average shooting percentage, that doesn't take away from the tremendous season Erichsen is having with the St. Louis Scarecrows. All eyes will be on him to see if he can replicate his success next season.

LD - Cara Hohenberg Knights - GP: 48 || G:10 || A: 19 || P: 29
Though not an overly physical player, Hohenberg is one of the best offensive defensemen this draft class has to offer. Tied for 1st in points among rookie defenseman, and 6th overall among rookies, Hohenberg has been a vital cog in the Kelowna Knights' roster, as Hohenberg has plays significant time on the powerplay, penalty kill, and even strength situations. Expect Hohenberg to be high on every SHL team's draft lists this coming offseason.

RD - Kelly Rivet Scarecrows - GP: 48 || G: 7 || A: 22 || P: 29
What Hohenberg brings to the table offensively, Rivet brings just as much on the defensive end. A minute gobbler as a rookie, Rivet has already proved his worth tenfold to the league leading St. Louis Scarecrows. Sitting 7th in the league in blocked shots with 61, and with 79 hits, Rivet is a force to be reckoned with in the defensive zone. He's no slouch offensively either, his 29 points tie him for the rookie rearguard lead, and a shocking 57% of his goals were game winners, proving him to be one of the most clutch players in the game.

G - Ace Dafoe Firebirds - GP: 10 || W: 4 || L: 2 || SV%: 0.910 || GAA: 2.40
Goalies typically take the longest to develop, which is why it is particularly impressive that Dafoe fared as well as he did, albeit with a relatively sample size. As one of only 3 rookie netminders with a save percentage over .900, Dafoe gave his Prince George Firebirds a chance to win every game he started. He has a bright future ahead of him if he continues on his current trajectory.

Left Wing: Nolan Angello

Nolan Angello has been a godsend for the Montreal Militia this season. He came into the SMJHL with quite the fanfare and he certainly has not disappointed. He has been the Militia's leading scorer with 23 goals and 21 assists. His lightning quick skating and excellent puck handling allows him to avoid defenders and setup goals either for himself or his linemates. Putting Angello on a line with Toohoots and Erichsen would be pure fireworks and a nightmare for any opposing team.

Center: Nucky Toohoots

Nucky Toohoots may be one of the most under looked rookies in the SMJHL. He has been excellent for the Detroit Falcons all season racking up 14 goals and 18 assists. Plus he knows how to get the job done on the power play with 6 power play goals and 4 power play assists. Toohoots has the perfect combination of sniping and playmaking that could really fit in well between two talented wings.

Right Wing: Frans Erichsen

Frans Erichsen has been the premier scorer in the SMJHL and he is a good chance to go first overall come the SHL Draft. The Scarecrows have a very strong veteran core but it has been the rookie that has led the charge and is giving the Scarecrows a big opportunity to win it all. He has lit it up this season with 29 goals and 26 assists for a +24 rating. This would not be an all star SMJHL lineup if Erichsen were not in it.

Left Defense: Cara Hohenberg

In a team with so much scoring in the forward positions you would think it would make more sense to have two defensive minded defenseman. However I say let's pile on the scoring threats by placing Hohenberg on this lineup. Hohenberg has been an excellent sniper from the defensive position with 10 goals and has also assisted 20 times. She may not be the most aggressive or physical defender with only 14 hits but that's not part of her game. Lineup a defender that can snipe like Hohenberg behind Angello, Toohoots, and Erichsen and the relentless threat of scoring will not stop.

Right Defense: Maverick O'Dooley

At some point it would be good to have a physical and enforcer on the ice and O'Dooley fits the bill. He has been the power for the young Colorado Mammoths squad and he is helping them set the tone for the next couple of seasons. O'Dooley has laid 63 hits on opponents this season and has also chipped in on offense with 6 goals and 15 assists. Offense is not O'Dooley's main focus but having a defender that isn't afraid to mix it up and can also have the ability to help the offense when needed is an excellent combination.

Goalie: Kimmo Lokinen

Kimmo Lokinen is far and away the most talented rookie goalie in the SMJHL. He would likely be a star on most over SMJHL teams but is unfortunate to be behind a SMJHL veteran in Jacob Andrews. Lokinen has performed better than Andrews when it comes to save percentage with a .908 compared to .906 for Andrews. Now this isn't a comparison between these two, it's just some information to show how well Lokinen has been between the pipes when given the chance.

Forwards:
Frans Erichson - Lead all rookies in points as well as leading the entire league in goals. For a rookie, this is completely unexpected and only shows his raw level of skill as well as his dedication to the game. A lock for the rookie team, and a candidate for this year's MVP.

Karl Hertzburg - 31 points on a team full of standout players. Finishing second in conference, it was a pleasant surprise for the Prince George Firebirds to have a rookie like Karl stand out among so much talent.

Nolan Agnello - His 44 points led the Montreal Militia, and his 23 goals were good for T-2nd in the league. An excellent performance in his rookie season, he looks to take another cup home to Montreal, and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Defensemen:
Theodore Graham - As a rookie, managed to finish with a +/- of 1, despite playing for a team that finished with a record of 16-29-5. Although he didn't help his team in the standings, he showed his versatility on the defensive end, a lone bright spot for the struggling Vancouver Whalers.

Cara Hodenberger - Led all rookie defensemen in points, as well as placing 5th in points on a powerhouse team, the Kelowna Knights. With such production in only his rookie season, he has plenty of potential to be one of the best offensive defensemen this league has ever seen.

Goaltender:
Oskar Molmsten Jr. - I admit, my pick may be a bit biased. He only played six games this season. However, his save percentage was high, and his future looks extremely bright. He looked good while backing up one of the better looking goalies in the league. He's got a lot more to come with his "official" rookie season coming up, so expect to see this name for a time to come.
