S29 Championship Week S29
#46

TASK ONE: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Pick any goal scored in the S29 playoffs so far and write the play by play for it. (150 words)

We've got 11 minutes left on the clock in this tied game between the Calgary Dragons and the Edmonton Blizzard, both at two goals. Faceoff in the Calgary zone between Esa Anrikkanen and Sasha Alexei Smirnov, Smirnov wins the puck to the defensemen as Windsor tries to make a breakout pass but is intercepted by Sachimo Zoidberg at the blueline, he passes it to Pedersen, who tries to move around Velvera but loses the puck in the process. Berger receives the puck but is also intercepted at the breakout pass. Windsor grabs the puck and tries to get it out, intercepted by Boychuk who tries to pass it to the slot, who gets intercepted by Windsor who also gets intercepted by Boychuk, he finally gets the pass through to Chris Johnson, pass to Esa, Esa's pass is intercepted as the Blizzard cross the redline and dump it in for the line change after some sloppy play in their own end

Hunter Wong comes out of the net and takes the puck and passes it to Esa who breaks the puck out to Pedersen who also dumps it in for the line change. Jackson Rogers-Tanaka attempts to get the puck out by is intercepted by the line-changed Jamie Hill who brings the puck in. To Bubba, to Pergher, to Alex Mack. Alex Mack takes a shot from the side as it misses the net and comes to Jamie Hill but she can't get a hold of it and the puck misses wide as well. Pergher takes the loose puck looking for a pass. Mack comes to the point as Randleman goes to the front of the net for a deflection. Mack one-times the puck from the point, Tipped in front by Randleman! IT'S IN! CALGARY TAKES THE LEAD WITH 10 MINUTES LEFT IN THE THIRD! CAN THEY HOLD ON!

TASK TWO: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose a standout player in the regular season, and write 200 words on how they’ve measured up so far in the playoffs. Must include at least three stats.

Griffen Simons had a spectacular year, setting record high points for his career with 25 goals, 33 assists for a total of 58 points. He was a +13, had 1 minor penalty and 1 fight, and had 22 hits, with 23 shot blocks. He lead the Steelhawks in points in one of the best 1st lines in the SHL regular season with linemates Dean Colt and Rider Clitsome. Despite talks of retirement, it doesn't look like Simons is slowing down. In the playoffs, Hamilton becomes an unstoppable monster, Simons is definitely one of the reasons why. After the first two series, versus West Kendall and Toronto, Simons, in 12 games, has a total of 20 points, 9 goals, and 11 assists, as the first line of the Steelhawks has carried their team to the finals of the Challenge Cup. Simons has the most points in the playoffs, the next two players are his linemates Dean Colt and Rider Clitsome. Simons has played just as well, if not even better than his regular season point totals as his PP/20 in the regular season: 0.86 compared to his Playoff PP/20: 1.18 has almost a .30 difference which is insane when you think about it. Simons scores .3 more points in the playoffs than his regular season, at least in this playoffs.

TASK THREE: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose what you think is a pivotal moment in any of the series’ so far, and flip it on it’s head. What happens if one team loses a game seven instead of wins? What happens if one goal isn’t scored, or is? How does the playoffs change, and how does the series change? (200 words.)

While some would say that the Toronto vs Hamilton OT goal was the playoff changing goal, I have a different one, the game winning goal by Randy Randleman to propel the Dragons to the finals. The Dragons have proven in game 1 that they can outscore the Steelhawks, but could the Blizzard have as well? What if Randleman's deflection goes wide, the Blizzard's 2nd line winger Ivan Koroviev (<a href='index.php?showuser=1827' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-62'>Alucard</a> ;Wink ) does the same to Calgary, except it doesn't miss the net, and he brings the Blizzard to the Finals? With one change, the finals predictions changes completely, the Blizzard was the best team in the West, and had the best player in the league in a player known as Theo Kane who tied the record set by Chris-McZehrl for most points in a single season at 67. While Theo may not have kept the same pace in the playoffs, Simons has, and he is the leading playoff scorer. Now it would be the two offensive juggernauts face off against each other, Hamilton vs Edmonton, Simons vs Kane. Calgary won game 1 with the heroics of Jamie Hill, would Edmonton have done the same? Would Nikolaus Scholz have been the hero of game one of the finals? We'll never know, unless JayWhy decides fuck it, and at the end of playoffs just says: Edmonton wins, go home losers

TASK FOUR: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Your player has won the Challenge Cup! Write 200 words about what he or she does on his or her Cup day. (This applies even to players whose teams didn’t make the playoffs)

The New England Wolfpack have just pulled the biggest underdog move ever, after just barely coming into the playoffs after Toronto choked like it was playoff season, the SHL dubbed New England Softpack was going to face the Minnesota Chiefs, the president's trophy winner. New England swept them, then they won the Quarter finals in a dramatic game 7 triple OT winner. Finally the Wolfpack won in 6 games vs the Calgary Dragons, an almost personal battle for Patrikov Bure as he faced off against S24 1st Overall draftee Randy Randleman, a rivalry continued from the SMJHL, Vancouver vs Kelowna, the good old days. Today was Bure's cup day, he had received the cup from Roman Morenov in Russia where he attended a very quick 2 hour parade, lifting the puck to show to his Russian brethren. As tradition, he filled the cup with Vodka and drank it all in one gulp. He then flew to Vancouver where everything started for the Russian winger.

A couple familiar faces from his Whalers roots were training at the gym where he went to meet them. Retired Zach Hoover, Geoffrey Allen, Andrey Barbashev, Jack Durden were all training. Luke Fleming was also there with Hoover for obvious reasons. Although they wanted to touch the cup, Bure just shot it down with a quick, "This is mine"

They insisted so they decided to play Poker and the winner could touch the cup. Turns out Bure is really fucking shit at Poker and the cup got tossed around like a prostitute in Vegas. Oh well
