Top 16 SHL Prospects For The Upcoming Draft
#1

As of writing this, I have complied the top 16 players in terms of TPE from roster pages. Why 16? Two ties, at the top and bottom none the less, to make the 16. Here is a short profile on each player to get people more equated with the next possible SHL stars! Enjoy!

Raptors 1-Simothy Drunkebird C 294 – Colorado Raptors Raptors
-Simothy Drunkebird tops our list of earners. The small and feisty Czech centermen, utilizes his speed to take pucks away and separate, but is also very defensive minded in his own end of play. Colorado took him 9th overall last season and he turned in a rather ‘off’ year for a 1st round pick. He was given over 15 minutes of ice time on average and could only collect 8 points in 50 games, but even still, Drunkebird does all the other things very well and getting points is only one small piece of the puzzle for SHL teams.

Knights 2-Adam Scianna D 294 – Kelowna Knights Knights
-Coming in at number 2 is a big bad defensemen from Norway, Adam Scianna. Taken with the 12th overall selection last season in the SMJHL draft, Scianna brings a good complete game to the table with excellent defensive ability. Scianna wont show up on any fantasy radar, but he logs big minutes for a rookie and is relayed on to keep a solid back end in Kelowna. He also isn’t scared to stand up for his teammates and had 2 big fights this year. Any SHL team would be happy to have this stalwart on their back end for the future.

Falcons 3-Cal Labovitch RW 281 – Detroit Falcons Falcons
-Coming in at number 3 is Swish born Cal Labovitch. The playmaking winger has really made a name for himself around SHL circles because he has had a great rookie season with the Falcons. In 50 games Cal has 7 goals with 24 helpers for 31 points which has him tied for Detroit rookie scoring. Cal really is a silky smooth player out on the ice and really makes everyone else around him better, and can also do all the simple things right. Taken 25th overall in last seasons SMJHL draft really stuck in Cal’s side because I’m sure you will see Cal’s named called high in the upcoming SHL draft.

Whalers 4-Sabo Tage D 280 – Vancouver Whalers Whalers
-The number 4 slot belongs to a big Canadian boy by the name Sabo Tage. Playing for the Vancouver Whalers, Tage was selected 1st overall in last season SMJHL. Even standing at 6’4 205 pounds, Tage really knows his way around the ice, he can skate with the best of them, and when given the opportunity to score, he is a goalies nightmare. He also had rough year playing in a strong teams depth chart and was only able to net 5 points in all 50 games played. Our insiders are also telling us they know his location in the SHL Entry Draft, but we don’t know yet.

Outlaws 5-Rhys Pritchard RW 279 – Anaheim Outlaws Outlaws
-Rhys Pritchard is a new recruit to our league, say hello everyone, and slots in the top 5 of the top TPE earners for this year’s draft class of S52 which is quite impressive. The big 6’2 offensive forward hailing from Great Britain leans on his good passing and defensive skills with the Anaheim Outlaws of the SMJHL. After being drafted 17th overall in the SMJHL entry draft, and posting 10 goals, and 22 assists for 32 points in his rookie campaign for Anaheim, Pritchard has definitely earned the title ‘top prospect’ for the upcoming SHL Entry Draft.

Whalers 6-Sven Yxskaft D 278 – Vancouver Whalers Whalers
-Another top Whalers defensemen comes in at number 6 on our charts, Sven Yxskaft. Sven is playing out of Sweden, and is a rather small defensemen at 5’11 187 pounds, but has a great skating ability to be dangerous anywhere. Sven was taken with the 14th overall pick, and also suffered by playing on a deep team. He only saw 17 minutes of ice time a night which was only good for 9 points in 50 games. Look for Tage and Sven to take large strides into next season and really cement this Whalers lineup.

raiders 7-Olli Saarinen G Jr 266 – Halifax Raiders raiders
-And yet another goalie cracks out top 10 list, but the thing that separates Olli over the others is the real name behind it, oh, and Olli hails from Finland. Olli came into Halifax with high hopes as he was taken 7th overall, but also came into a situation with an established goalie, so Olli only saw limited ice-time with 11 games played, but did do well with a .921 SP and 2.28 GAA. We expect Olli to take over the starters role next season in Halifax, so maybe he slips in the draft and that team will really get a steal we think.

Raptors 8-Samat Beibitzhanov G 265 – Colorado Raptors Raptors
-Another goalie on our list is Samat Beibitzhanov, lets hope we don’t have to type that out too much. Samat hails from mother Russia, but measures in at a rather small 5’11, 191 pounds for goalies these days, but don’t let that fool you because Samat dominates in his net. The Raptors chose him 20th overall last season, and he quickly went to work becoming the starter, as a rookie, and posting very respectful numbers in the process. 44 games played, a 20-22 record, 2.65 GAA and .889 SP. Goalies are always a hard prospect to tap, but looking at what this guy has done with his rookie campaign and putting in the work, look for Samat to be the future in the SHL.

Outlaws 9-Storm Chamberlain G 264 – Anaheim Outlaws Outlaws
-Strom Chamberlain is also a new recruit making a name for himself in Anaheim this season. The regular heighted but rather round goalie comes in at 260 pounds, which will obviously help him stop a few more pucks then the rest. Chamberlain was drafted to Anaheim way down in the 4th round of last years SMJHL entry draft, 34 overall and was a great steal for the Outlaws as he became the starter this season with them. Even though his numbers are quite pedestrian, 11 wins, 18 loses, a .872 GAA and 3.34 SP, becoming an SMJHL starter in your rookie season is still something Chamberlain and Anaheim should be very proud of.

Kraken 10-Velveteen Dream C 262 – Carolina Kraken Kraken
-First let’s take a moment to admire this gentlemen’s name, then we will tell you in secret that we know exactly where he will be going in the draft from our insiders! Velveteen comes in a large and in charge 6’4, 225 pounds and has silky smooth hands for such a big man. Velveteen has great eyes when in the offensive zone and is able to find teammates in tight spaces, that’s why Carolina used their 1st round pick, 2nd overall to bring him in. Unfortunately, Velveteen had a underwhelming season for that high of a pick with only 11 points in 50 games, but he was on a strong team and saw limited ice-time. Look for him to have a big year in Carolina next season if he stays down.

Knights 11-Noah Nystrom D 258 – Kelowna Knights Knights
-Another young defensemen from the Knights comes in just outside of the top 10 and that is Noah Nystrom. Nystrom, from Sweden, it a very imposing figure standing 6’4 230 pounds, and comes equipped with a great first pass. Nystrom was selected 6th overall by the Knights, and along with other notable rookie, Scianna, also ate up minutes the Knights threw at him, averaging just over 20 minutes per game. With these two on the back end for Kelowna, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

Kraken 12-Stirling MacTavish C 255 – Carolina Kraken Kraken
-Another Kraken to make the top 16 is Stirling MacTavish. The undersized Brit makes up for that with his playmaking abilities and also his defensive smarts when he doesn’t have the puck. MacTavish was taken 38th overall and played this year with that in the back of his mind and has definitely earned his spot on this list. But again, with this loaded Carolina team, MacTavish saw his ice time average under 10 minutes per game, which is why in 50 games played he was only able to collect 6 points. Look for him to also come back to dominate the SMJHL when he returns next season after an SHL training camp under his belt.

Knights 13-Theo Golury LW 254 – Kelowna Knights Knights
-Also making the list, and playing his junior year with the Knights is, Theo Golury. The high flying, offense gifted Golury hails from Austria and comes loaded with one of the best shots in the SMJHL. Picked 22nd overall in the SMJHL Entry Draft, Theo had something to prove entering the Knights line up. A lot of experts had him tagged as not good enough at skating to make the difference, but did Theo ever prove them wrong in his rookie year. He led the Knights rookies in scoring with 21 points in 50 games, while only averaging 16 minutes per game. This will have certainly gotten the attention of SHL teams.

Lions 14-SLATT Potts RW 250 – Lethbridge Lions Lions
-Next up we have a rather small feisty player by the name SLATT Potts. Potts is only 5’11 and 195 pounds, but playing out of the heart of Atlanta Georgia, sure comes with a lot of heart. He seems to be all over the ice with his speed, but can also use a great snap shot to place that puck in the back of the net. Potts was a highly ranked prospect to the SMJHL and selected 5th overall because of it. He has had his struggles this season, but on a lower end team, and only playing 17 minutes a game will do that to you. Potts still led the team in rookie scoring with 10 points in 50 games.

Knights 15-Oscar Cordero RW 243 – Kelowna Knights Knights
-The final Knight to make the list is Cuban born, Oscar Cordero. Yes, you read that right, Cuban born. Oscar comes from the country most notably known for its baseball players, but this 6’3 208 pound young man chose ice instead. Oscar also comes with a deadly shot, but can also help in the defensive end and shows great skill around that zone. Oscar was selected with the 16th overall pick and finished 2nd for rookie scoring behind Golury, where he was able to net 16 points in 50 games played. The Knights sure do have a bright future ahead of them.

Armada 16-Ulrik Bergstorm D 243 – Anchorage Armada Armada
-Rounding out our top 16 TPE earners is Ulrik Bergstorm from the Anchorage Armada. Ulrik comes to us from Sweden and is shockingly a two-way defender. His defense is definitely his strongest asset to him, but he will need to work on his basic fundamentals to get to that next level. Anchorage knew they were getting a great defenseman when they used their top pick, 8th overall, on Ulrik at last seasons SMJHL entry draft, and did that sure pay off! Even as the shutdown defensemen he is, Ulrik still managed to put up 18 points in 50 games played for a rookie on the Armada. Look for Ulrik to once again challenge for a top pick in the upcoming SHL draft.
