San Francisco Pride S58 Draft Recap (2x Draft Media)
#1

The SHL S58 Entry Draft has come and gone and all the excitement is still hanging around every team with all their new prospects. We are going to give you a look into the new pieces that the San Francisco Pride have brought into this rebuilding franchise.

prideGregory Goode - @Keenan – 1st round, 2nd overall, 329 TPEpride

The Pride with the 2nd overall pick have brought in Gregory Goode from the Anchorage Armada of the SMJHL. Through 66 games last season in Anchorage, Goode had 7 goals, 32 assists for 39 points on the year for a very respectable season in the SMJHL but some other stats stand out here. First, we look at the plus 36, just wow, not only can Goode get on the score sheet, but he can also keep others from getting on it. Second, even in his first year he was placed as a top power play quarterback and found the scoresheet 13 times during the season which means Goode is ready for the spotlight in San Francisco. We will also take a look at the person behind the player which is a legend around these parts who has been there and done that. Keenan has been around for ages, has multiple Challenge Cups, a Four Star Cup with Gregory Goode and is a Hall of Fame member. All this can not be overstated for a team that is looking to turn the page on some rough seasons and one day fight for their own Challenge Cup and bringing someone in like this will help behind the scenes.

prideNarboza Manyhands  - @nyumbayangu – 2nd round, 19th overall, 292 TPEpride

The second round was a very busy round for San Francisco with picks 19, 26 and 35. With their second pick this draft, 2nd round, 19th overall, the Pride selected another defense, Narboza Manyhands. Narboza spent his first year in the SMJHL with the Vancouver Whalers and through 66 games had 3 goals, 8 assists for 11 points. The Whalers are an up-and-coming team which can be an excuse for Narboza’s -41 on the season, it will only get better from here! Narboza saw an average ice time of 17:41 throughout the season, and with that means Manyhands had those hands remarkably busy facing some of the toughest players the SMJHL has to offer which looks good for his future with the Pride. Narboza Manyhands as you may think, is a rather strange name and when watching his custom-made gloves for hockey you would be right. Manyhands claims Planet Shardang of the Crab Nebula as home but for IIHF purpose, his first stop on Planet Earth was Interlaken Switzerland.

prideBjorn Jakobsen  - @siddhus – 2nd round, 26th overall, 328 TPEpride

With the 26th overall selection in the S58 SHL Entry Draft, the Pride selected Bjorn Jakobsen. Jakobsen played his SMJHL year with the Quebec City Citadelles where Bjorn through 66 games had 14 goals, 20 assists for 34 points. This was also the 3rd defense picked for San Francisco and another one who saw a large plus 22 and some power play time as Jakobsen averaged just over a 1 minute throughout the season. Okay, we will talk about the obvious thing with this pick, Jakobsen is listed at 6’11 and 300 pounds which I would say is the opposite of a hockey player build and more of a football player build. There was questions coming into this season about his size maybe slowing Bjorn down and not fitting with all that speed, but he has seemed to silence those critics throughout his first season in the SMJHL. Bjorn also has a high TPE count but with his first player retiring after only a few short seasons, there was questions if this player would stick around and make an impact at the SHL level. We know his last player still had an impact at the SMJHL level, and the Pride are hoping this late pick with questions can pan out and be a staple on their blueline of the future.

prideGreg Davies - @bjkman – 2nd round, 35th overall, 283 TPEpride

The Pride obviously had a plan to pack their prospect roster with the position that was lacking in defense, and with the 35th pick they selected a forward from St. Louis, Greg Davies. Davies played 66 games, had 5 goals, 9 assists for 14 points and a minus 11 for the Scarecrows. We would not look very deep into those stats as Davies was low on the depth chart of a very deep St. Louis roster in his first season. I am sure both San Francisco and St. Louis are hoping he takes a big step next season as he moves up the chart. Looking through Davies attributes you will notice something else that stands out along with another draftee we already featured, his size. Davies punches in at 6’8 and 240 pounds which will clearly have defense on opposition teams checking their shoulders when this guy is forechecking.

prideGerry Atrick - @MrRuihu – 3rd round, 37th overall, 338 TPEpride

The last pick for the Pride came near the end of the 3rd round when they selected their second forward of the draft Gerry Atrick. Atrick played his SMJHL season with the Kelowna Knights and in 66 games played registered 12 goals, 13 assists for 25 points. This could be a very nice steal for San Francisco at 37th overall. Atrick currently has 338 TPE which is the most of all Pride draftees and holds an intern position in the SMJHL. Artick is a re-create from a recent player who retired but looks to make an impact if he can stick around. Looking through his stats from last season Gerry was not leaned on heavy by the Knights only having an average time on ice of just over 13 minutes but his 14+ percent when shooting should stand out. Atrick took a total of 83 shots last season and scored 12 and that should have the fans excited to see him in a Pride uniform.

The San Francisco Pride clearly had a plan heading into this draft, load up on talented defense to really compliment the prospects. It has been a rough while if you are a Pride fan, and it has taken some time to really build the prospect pool from the disaster this whole franchise was but if you can stick around with this team through the tough times still to come, you will be an incredibly happy fan. This team is built for the future, and if half these prospects turn up this will be a deadly team that will do damage and can contend for multiple Challenge Cups.
