Revisiting Maine's S66 Draft


The S66 SMJHL Entry Draft introduced many amazing players to the league. The Maine Timber entered the draft with six draft picks, three of which turned into players that are still with the team as they gear up for a run at the Four Star Cup. In this deep dive, we'll be taking a look at those three individuals and how there careers have panned out after one and a half seasons in the SMJHL

Round One - 8th Overall Pick - Pawter Meowski - C - @Andy
With their first selection of the draft, the Timber selected the Norwegian center Pawter Meowski. Meowski was one of those prospects that checked off every single box teams look for when it comes to drafting elite scoring wingers. They posses great size (6'3", 230 lbs) for someone with their skating ability. Match that up with their elite shot and high hockey IQ and you have a player that becomes very tough to stop. Off the ice, Meowski has shown a high level of maturity that is more common with veteran players as opposed to someone playing in just their second season of junior. So far in their career, Meowski has put up 35 goals and 44 assists over 109 career games. This season also seen Pawter take their physical game to the next level. On top of likely beating last years hit total by a healthy margin, Meowski also been getting to the dirty areas and winning puck battles, something that will make the Texas Renegades, the team that drafted Meowski in the 1st round last year, very happy.

Round Two - 22nd Overall Pick - Daniel Swift - @jumpSeat
With their second pick of  the draft, the Timber went with another forward, none other than the shifty Irishman Daniel Swift. After watching his first two seasons, it's safe to say that Swift was a huge steal because everything about him screams first round talent. Scouts knew entering the draft that Swift was an exceptionally strong skater, but they were still shocked when he made the transition to the SMJHL look so smooth. After putting up 54 points in 66 games last season as a rookie, Swift has picked up right where he left off with 36 points in his first 43 games, a pace that would see him top last years total by 1. After a rookie season like the one he had, it was no wonder that the Baltimore Platoon called his name 3rd overall in last years SHL entry draft.

Round Three - 36th Overall Pick - Lachlan Moon - @DELIRIVM
In the third round of the draft, the Timber opted to strengthen their crease, selecting Lachlan Moon, a 6'3" goalie out of Australia. Moon was known by scouts as one of the most fundamentally sound goalies in the draft. He has great positioning and is able to use angles to make himself seem bigger than he is in the net. Recently in the S67 SMJHL Entry Draft, Moon seen a familiar face come to  Maine when they drafted Heath Nicol, a fellow Australian who Moon had played both with, and against during their youth years in the land down under. After being drafted by the Baltimore Platoon in the 3rd round of last season's SHL Entry Draft. Moon is expected to compete for the Timber starting job next year after current starter Isabella Bouchard graduates to the SHL.
