[2x Team Spotlight] Colorado's Playoff Woes: The Colorado Curse!
#1

As the Capitan for life, it is important for me to say that I Love Colorado. They will always have a special place in my heart. However, they haven't won a cup since they were the Mammoths, in Season 27. I am unable and also unwilling to research the players on that team, just know it was a while ago. Like, before electric cars... from major companies...? I don't know but the real fate got the banner was posted 4/12/2016. I didn't have kids then.... simpler times.

Anyway, back to the topic, Colorado, the playoff Woes, and why this current roster might pull it off dang it.

The Mammoths were put to rest for the S42 season, the last season that InciteHysteria would be in charge. The Raptors were born!

Fast Forward to the portal days, S53... The Raptors finished 7th in the league 4th out of 5 i the western conference, and Application Error: A client-side Exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information)
(My guess is there were no divisions. S53 would see the raptors face off against the Kelowna Knights, who swept them in 4 games. The Knights would make it to the finals to lose to the Falcons.

S54 would see the Raptors improve to 6th in the league, 3rd in the conference, and the same error in the division (Seriously I forgot we didn't have divisions for a while...) Only to get beat by the Anaheim Outlaws, who would go on to make it to the finals to lose against Carolina.

S55 would have more improvement, moving up to 5th in the now 12 team league, and 3rd in the conference. Also, first in the South West Division. The Raptors couldn't lose in the first round even if they tried! They could however, lose in the 2nd round, to the Kelowna Knights, again. The knights would get knocked out in round 3 by Maine, who got knocked out in round 4 by the Newfoundland Berserkers...

S56 would show a step back in rankings, to 8th, and 5th in the conference. Sitting last place in the South west division, the Raptors were set for a first round loss again. Only the Raptors said NO we will win! and they beat Quebec 4-2 in the series. The Raptors would get smashed by Carolina in round 2, again not making it past round 2...

S57 would show some improvement again, up from 8th to 6th, and 3rd in the conference, up from 5th. Colorado would lead the division again, which translated to a 2nd round exit at the hands of Anaheim again.

S58 would show a small step back to 7th from 6th, and 4th from 3rd in the conference. Colorado was tied for 1st in the South West Division, but losing the tiebreaker making them play in the first round against the dang Anaheim Outlaws again. This time, Colorado would squeak out a series win, 4-3, advancing to the second round. The second round would also end up being a 4-3 series, but Quebec would sadly win the game 7 of the series, 4 to 1. In fact, Colorado had 2 chances to win the series, and lost both times, 4 to 1. Sad.... , but still a great series.

S59 would see a jump from 6th to 5th in the league, hold at 3rd in the conference, and lead the division again. In the 2nd round. Colorado would play Anchorage, and the Armada took them out 4 games to 0. No team that beat Colorado has won the cup so far.

S60 would see a slip back into 6th, still holding at 3rd, and still sitting in first. The 2nd round opponent this time would be the same team that just beat them last season, the Anchorage Armada. Colorado would win the first, 3rd, and 4th games, getting a 3-1 series lead, only to lose 3 in a row to be knocked out yet again by the Armada. The Armada would once again get knocked out and not make it to the cup.

S61 would see a jump from 6th to 2nd in the league, which was first in the now Atlantic Conference, and First in the now Bergen Division. The league now has 14 teams. Colorado would face the Kelowna knights for the first time in the playoffs since S55, and this time, things would be different. Colorado would sweet the knights, 4-0, to advance to the 3rd round for the first time in modern history! The 3rd round would be played against the Vancouver Whalers. Vancouver would take a 3-0 series lead, but game 4 would see Colorado score 8 to Vancouvers 3. However, the Whalers would take the series the next game, 3-2. Colorado was out in the 3rd round. This is the first series where the team that beat Colorado would win the cup.

S62 would see Colorado jump back to 7th, 5th in the Pacific and 2nd in the Wollker Division. Round one was against the Quebec City Citadelles. Colorado wins that series 4-2, only to get beat hard by Anchorage, 4-0. The Curse stays alive, as Anchorage would lose in the finals.

S63 would see the same 7th spot, 3rd instead of 5th, and 2nd in the Ciarelli Division. Round one would be a rematch from S62, with Quebec looking for revenge. And they would get it, beating the Raptors 4-2. The Curse is real again.

S64 would see Colorado jump up again, this time to 2nd, 1st in the Pacific and 1st in the Ciarelli. Round 2 would show Colorado the Kelowna Knights. The teams would trade wins, with Colorado finally winning the series after 7 games. The Raptors would then face the Berserkers, who would beat Colorado in 6. Newfoundland would go on to win the cup, the Curse is fake.

S65 would see a slip back to 5th, 2nd in the conference (Pacific) and 2nd in the Wollker Division. Colorado would sweep the Knights, and then Nevada would sweep Colorado. The Curse is back baby, Nevada got beat next round.

S66 would see the same success as S64 in the league, 2nd in the Atlantic and first as the Bergen Division. Colorado would meet, greet, and defeat Maine 4-1 in the 2nd round, only to get stomped out hard 4-0 by the Battleborn. The Battleborn would break the Colorado Curse and win the cup this season as well.

S67 would see the Raptors stumble back to 8th place in the league, a comfortable 5th in the Pacific, and 2nd in the Wolker. 7 hardfought games against the Yukon would result in an early departure from the playoffs yet again, and the Curse of Colorado would pull Yukon down to lose the next 7 game series 4-3...

S68 would see the Raptors drop 1 more spot to 9th, 4th in the Atlantic, and second in the Cain-Robinson Memori Division. The first round battle would be again against the Yukon, would would more effeicently defeat the Raptors in 6 games instead of 7. the Yukon would get swept by Detroit in round 2, Keeping the Curse of Colorado alive.

S69 (Nice.) would see the Raptors drop down to 10th in the league, an all time low. The 59 points would be good for 5th in the Pacific, and last in the Michael Fitted Division. Since the Division had 4 teams, and Colorado was 4th... they were not playoff bound for the first time in modern history.

S70 would see the return to playoffs for the raptors, who would go 2nd in the league, First in the Atlantic, and First in the Cain-Robinson. Colorado would once again see the Yukon in the playoffs, who would once again dismantle the Raptors 4-0. The Curse stays alive yet again.

S71 would see Colorado drop from 2nd to 10th, 5th in the Pacific, and 3rd in the Michael Fitted Division, just 2 points above Quebec City for the playoff spot. Colorado would get be a repeat from S66, where Maine would Meet, Greet, and Defeat Colorado this time, 4-0. The Colordo Curse was broken this season as well, as Maine would go on to win it all.

S72 would see Colorado drop 2 more spots to 12th in the League, 6th in the Pacific, and once again 3rd in the Michael Fitted Division. Once again they beat 4th place by 2 points, this time above Detroit.  Carolina was the first round opponent, and they wouldn't need all 8 legs to tear Colorado apart, 4 to 1 in the series. Nevada would pull the game 7 victory against Carolina, and the curse could rest well knowing it is back.

S73 would see Colorado stick in the 12th slot in the league, 6th in the Atlantic, and a far away 4th in the Tamper Town Division. The playoffs were out of reach this season.

S74 would see Colorado gain 10 spots, up to 2nd in the league, 2nd in the Pacific, and 2nd in the 510 Division, only behind Quebec City by 12 points in all three. Colorado would beat up the Battleborn in round 2 (4-1), then Cut down the Timber (4-2) to make it to the finals for the first time.... in modern history. The Falcons were the only thing standing between Colorado and the First cup in Raptors history... And they stood tall. Colorado would go up 2-0 in the series, for Detroit to fight back to make it 2-2. Colorado would make it 3-2, Detroit would make it 3-3... and for game 7... Detroit would win it 4-3. Kenny Omega would be the Detroit hero, scoring the game winning goal in the 3rd period. The Curse can't really apply in the finals, but I guess it is broken again since the team that beat Colorado won the cup...

S75 is showing Colorado sitting currently at 2nd in the league, First in the Division, and first in the 510. Clearly playoff bound with the rankings still to be shaken out over the next few weeks.

Will this year be the year? Will history repeat itself again?

Can Colorado pull it off?

Only time will tell. This group looks poised to pull it off, but somewhere lurking deep....

THE CURSE LIVES.
