Task 5(3 TPE) - Biggest Game

Both the Los Angeles Panthers and The Hamilton Steelhawks had to play at the top of their game to make it all the way to the Challenge Cup Finals but they still took fairly different paths. The Panthers dominated in the first round and easily swept The Dragons, but then they lined up against the always difficult Texas Renegades in a series that would be stretched all the way to a decisive game seven. That game saw the Panthers have to battle back from a 2-1 deficit in the first, to a 3-2 deficit by the end of the second. The third period saw The Panthers elevate their game to the necessary level to earn their birth in the Challenge Cup Finals scoring 2 late goals in rapid succession to secure the win in regulation. This kind of hard fought series can really bring the team together and get them firing on all cylinders.

The Steelhawks on the other hand had a longer first round than the conference finals quickly dispatching the Chiefs in 5 games. The decisive game in that series has to be game 3 when Hamilton returned back home after winning the first two games on the road and Ricko Muerto puts up a hat trick to take a defiant 3 game lead at home. While they may have lost game 4, taking that third game put the series all but out of reach for the Chiefs and had the added benefit of providing Hamilton with a few extra days rest before battling for hockey;s greatest prize.

One of the biggest matchups in this Challenge Cup finals is between the two goaltenders. Both Jackson Weekes for the Los Angeles Panthers and Jakob Tanner for the Hamilton Steelhawks are obviously playing very important roles for their respective team, but they may have very different impacts on the series as a whole. First off you have Jackson Weekes who just set an SHL record for save percentage in a regular season, as well as lead the league in wins, shutouts and goals against average. Obviously a huge success that he hopes to continue into the playoffs. On the other side of the coin you have Jakob Tanner. Tanner certainly did not have a terrible season, still finishing 3rd in wins, but his individual stats were not exactly where he would’ve liked them to be. This kind of underwhelming season can really light a fire under certain players heading into the postseason, and Tanner may turn out to be one of those special players.

Goaltenders are in the unique position to consistently raise their game to level which can steal entire games and even series from the other team and both goalies are poised to accomplish just that. Weekes has the advantage however of playing behind probably the two best defenseman of the finals in Bottas and Wastlund and that can certainly help take some of the weight off of his shoulders. For that reason I think Tanner will have the most impact on his team's performance, if he doesn’t show up Hamilton does not have as much to fall back on.

A: "Confused and aroused, but I'm always aroused"

A: "My goal is to fuck Liam Kinsler's bitch, and mission accomplished. So now I'm going to retire on top, she can take the top after."

Q: "How do you feel about potentially having the best name in the SMJHL?"

A: "That's what I'm known for, my name. That's about it really."
