Strengths

S1: Pound for Pound Checker: 6’0, 196 lb., 60+ hits. Lundberg is the polar opposite of Robb Wind. Always hunting for the big hit Lundberg’s hits are even more impressive when it is considered that he did not even play 9 minutes per game this season. His checking ability is scary and a little underused on the deep team that is the Kelowna Knights. Next season look for him to get more playing time and shoot to top Buzz Killington’s total hits total from this year.
S2: Shoot First: Cam Neely was the man who they invented the term Power Forward for, and with it he came to define a role that can be easily summed up in “hit them, score on them, beat them, drink their beer.” Lundberg, while only scoring one goal this year thinks of himself in the same light and will be fighting to get the ice time to make his mark on the team and break double digit goals in his second showing.

Weaknesses

W1: Size: 6’0 and a hair under 200 lb is not undersized by any means, however when you want to play the role of power forward those metrics are just not going to cut it. In a league filled with athletic freaks around every corner Lundberg’s relative normality is actually a cause for concern as he looks to play outside of his body type.
W2: Puck Skills: When you are a centreman it is expected of you to hold onto the puck and make things happen with it. Durden is pretty good at winning the puck in the corners, but in the dot he has trouble taking control. Even more importantly, he is often confused with the puck on his stick in the offensive zone, as his puck handling is really not a strength of his at all. Major red flags for a future SHL Centre.

Opportunities

O1: Position Change: Looking back on Lundberg’s W2 it is clear that he will never be the best centre in the league, but he was fortunate enough to play behind one of the premier rookie centres this season anyway so he will never have that pressure. However, with the strength in his forechecking game and goal scoring ability, the power forward may be best used in a position where the Power Forward first arose from: the wing. No one likes being told to change from their natural position, but Lundberg could be a very good winger in this league and compliment stronger puck handlers around him, while not having to worry about winning key face-offs.

Putting It All Together

Lundy is one of the most well liked players on his team and hit a very bad stream of luck in his underutilized role last season. Ever determined, he will be making his way back to the SMJHL this upcoming season and trying to make up for a bad year. This determination has not gone unnoticed and his pleasant demeanor off the ice has actually garnered him some looks in the large second tier of this year’s draft. With his work ethic look for Lundy to make waves in the future as opportunities open up for him in Kelowna’s deep roster.

Projected Round: Late Second

NHL Comparison: Wayne Simmonds

I can't wait to see Jon in action in S25. More minutes, more hits, and more production on the way. SMJHL defencemen had better beef up or get beat up. Wink

Terrible sim luck this year. 3% shooting? That should be a lot closer to 7-9%, with more shots too you should hit 10 easy. Best of luck tonight in the draft.
