Undoubtedly, the most exciting moment of the playoffs so far was the series between the Calgary Dragons and the Edmonton Blizzard. A veritable Song of Ice and Fire, these two Western Conference powerhouses have won the last two cups, but only once could move on to the finals. Predictably, the series went to seven games, but game seven was one for the ages.

In front of a crazy excited Edmonton crowd, the Dragons dominated the first period of play, scoring the only two goals and putting up 12 shots to Edmonton's 5. In the second, Edmonton halved the deficit--and then pulled even four minutes into the third. There's no question that that arena was absolutely deafening after the Sarantez goal. You could hear people cheering "Re-peat, re-peat, re-peat..."

But they cheered too soon. Six minutes later, Randy Randleman, the incredibly gifted Welsh sniper who is the youngest member of the Dragons' core, scored a goal that would put the Dragons back in the lead, and the Blizzard away for good.

What if he hadn't, though? What if Aitto had saved that goal? Well, the Blizzard were definitely picking up momentum late in the game, outshooting the Dragons in both the second and third periods. It's totally possible that the game would've gone to overtime, at which point it could have gone either way. The Dragons have the offensive firepower; the Blizzard have top-notch defense and goaltending. In a game 7 OT situation, which one wins? Unfortunately, we don't get to find out, because Randleman put the nail in the coffin early. In doing so he did save lots of Dragons fans from some heart attacks, so...there is that.

Task Four

When the Wolfpack eventually win the Challenge Cup, it will be fitting that the Captain of #TeamPlayForFun will spend his cup day having as much fun as possible. Of course, because living well is the best revenge, it will start with him instagramming a picture of himself hugging the cup, with the caption "#PlayForFun #WinningIsFun". That taken care of, he will get to work spreading as much fun as possible--he'll take the cup to the Boston Pride Parade, because saying "if you can play, you can play" into a camera is all well and good, but unambiguous shows of support are much better.

Pride is a lot of fun, which is kind of the point--but then Makinen will take the cup to a local hospital, bringing it around to those who are ill and letting them in on the fun. Makinen has been quoted as saying, "I don't want to be just a hockey player; I want to be a good person," and his actions in the community are a sign of that. Sharing his cup day with people in hospital is just another way to give back to his city.

Finally, after he's spent most of the day spreading the fun around, Makinen will have some fun of his own. He'll have a private party, attended of course by Pack teammates, Knights teammates, Finland teammates, other friends, and family. Obviously, because it's Makinen, there will be a giant green bouncy house to go with the booze, because what possible better combination could there be than those two things? The private party will go into the early hours of the morning--but only soft attendees will be allowed.
