S29 Championship Week S29
#60

TASK ONE: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Pick any goal scored in the S29 playoffs so far and write the play by play for it. (150 words)

Welcome back, everyone, hope you didn't leave your couch for too long. Seattle and Calgary are ready to jump back into the action. If you are just tuning in, Seattle has just scored the equalizer with a minute and a half to go. The Riot really just controlled the play during that attack, they kept generating shot after shot, it was only a matter of time before one found twine. Sean Leonidas faces off against Jagr. Jagr wins it back to Randy Randleman, who dumps it into the offensive zone. He and Riot winger David Benson rush for the puck. Benson picks up the loose puck, but doesnt have a chance to move it before being absolutely hammered by Randleman! Oh my, the fans in the top row are going to feel that one. Oferyn Martell scoops up the puck and gets the attack started for Calgary. Martell sends it to winger Alex Mack, who immediately sends it back to the point to Martell. Martell goes tick-tack to Mack, who tries to enter into the slot. But then he sets up Jagr with a beautiful no look back hand pass! Jagr winds up, blasts a shot, and IT GOES IN!!! SCHNITINFRITZ JAGR SCORES!!! Just 19 seconds after being tied up, Jagr scores the go ahead goal and gives Calgary the lead with a minute twelve remaining! What a play by the Dragons!

TASK TWO: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose a standout player in the regular season, and write 200 words on how they’ve measured up so far in the playoffs. Must include at least three stats.

Esa Anrikkanen is a name that is very familiar throughout the SHL. The poster boy for Calgary was a huge key to their regular season success, leading the team with 1.06 PPG. So far in the playoffs he is tied for the team lead in points, with 16 points in 16 games, but something has been off. Lets look at three stats that show something is off with Esa's game:

Hits/Hits Taken Ratio
in the regular season, Esa was a physical force to be reckoned with. Averaging a 1.66 Hits/Hits Taken ratio, Anrikkanen was laying players on their ass more than he was sitting on it. In the playoffs so far, he has produced a 1.47 Hits/Hits Taken ratio. Its not a huge difference, but it shows that he has been tiring throughout this whole playoff run

Shooting Percentage
Esa has never been a high percentage shooter, he is more in the mold of "if you keep generating shots, eventually one will go in". During the regular season that philosophy worked out for him, giving him 21 goals and a 8.79% shooting percentage. So far in this playoffs, Esa has only three goals and a 4.76% save percentage. clearly something is off in his shot.

Shot Totals
Esa led the Dragons in shots with 239 in the regular season. He is currently in third on the team with 61 shots in the playoffs. Whether this is Anrikkanen or a result of Calgary's game plan, it is something that could be a problem for the team moving forward.

TASK THREE: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose what you think is a pivotal moment in any of the series’ so far, and flip it on it’s head. What happens if one team loses a game seven instead of wins? What happens if one goal isn’t scored, or is? How does the playoffs change, and how does the series change? (200 words.)

Game seven of the Western Conference finals was an incredibly stressful one between the last two cup champions. With Calgary leading Edmonton 3-2 with three seconds left in the third period, Mark Longford fires a shot at the net. Now we know that Hunter Wong stopped the shot and covered it up, leading to the end of the game and Calgary moving on to the cup finals. But what if the shot had gone in, and Edmonton won the game in OT?

Edmonton would be playing in the finals against Hamilton right now if that were the case, and i believe if that happened we would already be looking at our back to back challenge cup champs. Why do i say this? Because Hamilton has some of the best scorers in the game on their team. Despite this, Calgary has at the very least kept pace with them. Hunter Wong has performed admirably, but has a .905 save percentage after averaging 28.25 shots faced per game. Edmonton's goalie, Jakub Aittokallio, has had a .908 save percentage after averaging 30.08 shots faced per game. Hamilton's top line is dangerous, and it must be contained at all costs, and that starts with the goalie. I think that this slight difference could have had the cup back in Edmonton.

TASK FOUR: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Your player has won the Challenge Cup! Write 200 words about what he or she does on his or her Cup day. (This applies even to players whose teams didn’t make the playoffs)

So you want me, Richard C. Motherfuckin' Hocolate, to plan out my Cup day? well, after I make the greatest save in SHL history to secure the Calgary Dragons get the cup back, I'll just be waiting for my cup day. First thing I'll do with the cup is eat cereal out of it for breakfast, because lets be honest, that's what like everyone wants to do with it. After that, I'll bang my smoking hot wife because when you're a highly paid handsome cup champion goalie you get to have sex whenever you want. After that, everything is just gravy. Naturally I'll go to the amusement park. Have you ever seen someone take a league championship trophy onto a roller coaster before? I didn't think so. The next logical thing is to fly down to whatever city we beat in the finals, rent a limo, stand out of the top of the limo hoisting the cup, and shout "You suck" and "Your city is track". You know, the normal stuff. After that, I'm going to fly home and have the greatest beer pong tournament ever! Just imagine how great of a game it would be if you had to bounce the ball into the challenge cup? After that, I would probably just pass out on the couch and cuddle with the Cup. Hell, its prettier than some of the girls I've hooked up with when I was drunk
