S29 Championship Week S29
#70

Task 1 – 164 words

Round 1, Game 1 – Texas vs Edmonton – Vikingstod has just taken a roughing penalty and the Blizzard will get a power play chance with less than one minute into overtime. Boyka wins the face off back to Knight who shoots in down into the Edmonton zone. Velervra retrives the puck for the Blizzard and skates up ice and finds Koroviev in stride in the neutral zone with a tape to tape pass. Koroviev crosses the blue line into the Renegades zone and skates around Rudd down the left hand board and circles the around the net.

He finds a streaking Berger and hits him with a pass at the top of the right circle. Berger does not hesitate and one-times the shot over the out stretched glove of Ogorodnikov and the Blizzard win Game 1 on the power play just a minute into the extra period as Berger scored his first of the playoffs to give the Blizzard a 4 to 3 overtime win.

Task 2 – 255 words

Hamilton defenseman Cody Black was second in the regular in scoring among defensemen and sixth on the team overall with 3 goals, 24 assists for 27 points. He was a +13 with 104 penalty minutes to go with 135 hits, 68 shots and 69 shot block in just under 24 minutes per game. He also played heavy minutes on both the power play and penalty killing units.

During the playoffs, Black has completely upped his game. In 17 games so far, he has 5 goals, 8 assists for 13 points. This would put him on pace for a 50 game regular season for 15 goals, 24 assists and 39 points. All three of these categories would either equal or blow away his numbers from the regular season. He would come out to be around a +9 on the season and would shave about 40 minutes off of his penalty total to be around 68 minutes. Hits would be down a little bit but his shots and shot blocks would be about his regular season totals. He is also playing about one more minute per game.

This is exactly what you want to see from your cornerstone defenseman in the playoffs. Not only is Black providing leadership on the ice through out performing his regular season in most categories, he is also a leader in the locker room providing guidance through a game 7 conference finals win and through 4 games in the finals, he has his Steelhawks tied 2 games a piece with the Dragons.

Task 3 – 325 words

Instead of Simons winning game 7 of the conference finals for Hamilton over Toronto in overtime, he hits the post and the puck goes to Stinson who lead a 3 on 2 rush with Laflamme and Barbashev. They criss cross at the blue line leaving Laflamme wide open as Stinson finds Barbashev who quickly passes to the wide open Laflamme who buries the puck into the back of the net sending Toronto into the Cup Finals. Toronto hasn’t been to the Cup Finals since they went back to back in Seasons 16 and 17 as they have yet to win one in their history.

They take on a talented Calgary team that won the Cup in season 27 and is riding the momentum of winning a Game 7 in overtime against Edmonton. The first two games in Calgary are close, but the Dragons win both games by the exact same scores of 3 to 2.

Games 3 and 4 are played in Toronto as the North Stars win game 3 by a score of 4 to 2 and then take game 4 as Harter shuts down the potent Dragon offense with a shutout – 3 to 0. Toronto has all the momentum now as they return to Calgary, but the seasoned Dragons whip the North Stars 5 to 1 in Game 5 as they look to wrap things up in Game 6 on the road. However, the Toronto defense plays one heck of a game and Harter makes save after save as the North Stars force a Game 7 with a 2 to 1 win.

In Game 7, the hero for the North Stars is winger Adam Falk with the first two goals of the game and with time running out and the score 2 to 1 in favor of Toronto, Harter has to make a save with one second left in the game off of his shoulder to give Toronto their first Challenge Cup win.

Task 4 – 219 words

My day with the Cup would be pretty simple in terms of taking the Cup and walking around the local children’s hospital and letting as many kids and parents see, touch and take pictures of the Cup to help bring some joy and happiness into their lives as they face a tough battle everyday. Maybe even do something special like having a brunch with a certain amount of kids where they can visit with me and the Cup.

Then I would take the Cup to a local youth hockey rink where I would have a tournament the rest of the day where teams would face off to win the chance to hoist the Cup over their heads as champions. Kids and parents again could take the time to look at the Cup on display and take pictures if they wanted to while the tournament is going on. The winners to also drink something like fruit punch or the good old orange drink you get from McDonald’s out of the Cup.

And once the tournament is over, we will parade the trophy down main street with all of the kid hockey players marching along in the parade and throwing candies and goodies to the crowd while the Cup gets to ride in the parade in a car all by itself.
