TASK ONE: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Pick any goal scored in the S29 playoffs so far and write the play by play for it. (150 words)

With less than a minute left, and Ross in the box for tripping, the Scarecrows are on the power play with the game tied. Charlyb'y wins the faceoff in the Whalers zone, and he passes it off to Landry, on the half wall, who passes it down to Erichsen, sitting on the goal line. He pauses, waits for Diablo to get into position and sneaks it through a defender's legs to where Diablo is waiting, and Diablo shoots, but Biznette blocks! The puck skitters free to Matteo, who wastes no time in shooting, but it misses the net, and bounces to where Landry is waiting on the doorstep, and he tucks it home behind Link! Scarecrows win! Scarecrows win! The St Louis Scarecrows have just won the Four Star Cup, with less then thirty seconds on the clock!

TASK TWO: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose a standout player in the regular season, and write 200 words on how theyâ€™ve measured up so far in the playoffs. Must include at least three stats.

The Scarecrows best player in the regular season was unquestionably rookie Frans Erichsen, who flew up the leaderboard to take the SMHJL by storm, leading all players in points and finishing right at the top of the leaderboard, outdoing last seasonâ€™s best rookie, Kelownaâ€™s Mikael Talo, who finished sixth. Erichsen finished the season with 55 points, six points above second place, Kelownaâ€™s Captain, Mikko Linna. He also finished the season with only 12 PIMs and a shooting percentage of just over 15%, for 29 goals on 183 shots.

For the playoffs, Erichsen finished second in the league, behind teammate Sebastian Strange and tied with Linna (who played less games). He registered eighteen points in nineteen games, only 2 PIMs, and his shooting percentage dropped a little to 13.3%. His eight goals led the team, and, just like in the regular season, Erichsen has proved he can be a leader on this team, especially on the ice, and is projected to be a high first round pick, potentially top three. If he can recreate this season and this post seasonâ€™s success, then heâ€™s poised to be a star in this league for the foreseeable future.

TASK THREE: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose what you think is a pivotal moment in any of the seriesâ€™ so far, and flip it on itâ€™s head. What happens if one team loses a game seven instead of wins? What happens if one goal isnâ€™t scored, or is? How does the playoffs change, and how does the series change? (200 words.)

The Game 7 loss to Vancouver was the definition of a heartbreaker for the Kelowna Knights. They had three separate chances to close the series out, with games 5, 6 and 7, and they lost all of them by a wide margin. Laukkanen, the Knightsâ€™ regular season MVP, lost his composure and the series fell apart, ultimately sending the Whalers to the Four Star Cup Finals.

The Knights went down early in game 5, down 5-2 going into the third. In the third period, Mikko Linna completed his hat trick, but the team was ultimately unable to force OT, losing 5-4. This is the game where everything went wrong for the Knights. Laukkanen was pulled after allowing four goals on seventeen shots, and he was never quite the same after that game, getting pulled in both games 6 and 7, and his stats, top of the league in the regular season, dropped to 5th in the league for the playoffs.

If the Knights force OT in that game, they have a chance to take the series 4-1, and go on to face an admittedly stacked St Louis team. With Laukkanen struggling, and the Knights facing some of the best scorers in the league, the Knights would have to do something really special to beat the Scarecrows, who went on to take the Four Star Cup in 6 games. If the Knights went on to play the Scarecrows, I predict they would take it to a game seven, but ultimately lose to a St Louis team that just overpowers them.

TASK FOUR: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Your player has won the Challenge Cup! Write 200 words about what he or she does on his or her Cup day. (This applies even to players whose teams didnâ€™t make the playoffs)

After winning the Four Star Cup, Mikke Laukkanen decides to spend his cup day in Finland, where he grew up.

He shares his cup day with teammate and life-long best friend Mikael Talo, who grew up three blocks away from Laukkanenâ€™s childhood home. Both families worked together for the party, which took place in Laukkanenâ€™s backyard. Fellow Finns Ilmari Maatta, Bennett Jones and Mikko Linna made it out for the day, along with teammates Dominique and Landvik, and Laukkanenâ€™s teammate from juniors, Montrealâ€™s Jason Forbrook.

There was a barbeque, and Laukkanenâ€™s mother, a baker, provided homemade bread, cakes and pastries, so by the time the sun started to set, everyone was full of food and content.

The party starts to die down at night, but a lot of people stick around, as Laukkanenâ€™s yard has a firepit, and a small crowd of players start to gather around the fire. Jones and his significant other share a seat, and Laukkanen sits with best friend Talo and his childhood dog, Aatu.

Laukkanen ended the day by sitting down with a local sports magazine for a short interview.

â€˜Today has been incredible,â€™ he says, sitting away from the guests. â€˜All I wanted with my Cup Day was to spend it with the people I love, and thatâ€™s exactly what itâ€™s been. Winning was amazing, but this is whatâ€™s important to me. If I could do this every day, I would. Iâ€™m looking forward to doing it again next year.'
