<div align="center">Powerplay: Difference Maker</div>

Halifax had 4 powerplays and couldn't capitalize on any of the opprotunities. The powerplay being a non-factor allowed Colorado to play a very physical play and not worry too much about being penalized. Colorado's Peanlty Kill played their hearts out, stuffing every attempt by the Raiders. Teddy Kesler came up big for the Mammoths in his role on the Penalty Killing units. Zbyněk was another Mammoth to play big minutes on the PK squad. For Colorado, Brock Bailey was their saint. Raiders' Brock Bailey gave Colorado two powerplays, enabling Colorado to capitalize on the second one. Special teams proved to be the difference maker, and it sent the crowd home happy!

Game 5 was the 2nd half of a home and home between Colorado and Halifax. The first game was in Halifax and the Mammoths played a great road game to kick off their season. An absolutely wild start to the game in Colorado saw the score 3-1 Halifax only 3:20 into the game. From that point on it was all Colorado, as they chipped their way back into the game before eventually taking a commanding 6-3 lead. The fans in Colorado were treated to an exciting game, but you have to imagine the coaches didn't love it.

Unsung Heroes

Halifax - Brandon Gauthier. Ranked 2nd on the team for minutes played with 24:12, trailing only defenseman Zander Rhys. Gauthier also chipped in an assist, lead the team in the faceoff circle, and fired three pucks on net. A gutsy road effort that just wasn't enough.

Colorado - Lukas Muller. 2 hits, 2 blocked shots, and a +1 all while logging a team high 22:44 in ice time. He was out in all situations, and gave a strong effort on every shift. You won't hear him praised so much when many players had multi point games, but Muller absolutely deserves a fair bit of the credit himself.

Conklin Owen's Turning Point of the Game

The final scoreline of this game doesn't quite do full honor to how close this game really was. It was never a matter of Halifax being blown out of the water, on the contrary, they were up big at one point early on in the contest. Colorado slowly clawed their way back into this game, ultimately taking over in the second period, and never really looking back- although a late push by the Raiders did put some liveliness back into things before the finish. So where exactly did things turn around in this game, with it swinging from what appeared to be an easy win for Halifax, to a 2 goal dusting by Colorado?

Code:
Colorado Mammoths , Vratislav Zbyněk 3 (Teddy Kesler, Rambo) at 12:19

Right about here. Up to this point, Colorado hadn't had the lead. Halifax had outshot the Mammoths 10-7 through the first 20 minutes, but at the onset of the second period, something clicked for Colorado. Who knows what the coach said in the break, but whatever it was, it got his guys fired up. The D tightened up, the wingers were keeping possession, and everything started to change. It was Vratislav Zbyněk, scoring his second goal of the season, starting the swing back his way, and his second goal is what put Halifax on their heels for the rest of the contest. Let's take a closer look:

The puck was dumped into the Halifax zone by the 2nd D pairing from the neutral zone, getting his team changed. The quick change by Colorado was executed beautifully, getting a full change of Teddy Kesler, Vratislav Zbyněk, Zinaida Titova, Lukas Muller and Rambo on the ice- top lines for both the forwards and the defense. Top line Raider defender Gail Kapperkanen collected the puck- but the pressure from the quick change created a rare mistake- the pass was intercepted by Rambo in the neutral zone. Rambo moved the puck to a streaking Kesler, who pushed the puck in to Zbyněk in the Halifax zone. 4 strides and a quick wrister later, the puck was flying over the right shoulder of goal tender Jordin FourFour Jr., who had come in to relieve Jeremy Anderson. What had once been a 3-1 lead for the Raiders had now become a 4-3 lead for Colorado, and the Raiders were in full on panic mode.

2 more goals would end up in the back of the Halifax goal in the 3rd period, and that was that- Colorado had held their composure and come back after a shaky start. Their faith in Landon Boeing was rewarded, while the Raiders questionable decision to pull Anderson after only 1 goal and under 16 minutes of play time was clearly paid for. Tip of the hat to Colorado and Vratislav Zbyněk in this one.

<div align="center">The Bud Light Real Man Award</div>

The Bud Light Real Man Award winner for game 5 of the SMJHL season is Vratislav Zbynek. My man was out there punishing each and every player on the ice for the audacity to be standing on the same frozen surface as him. He potted two huge goals for the Mammoths on route to a 6-4 victory for Colorado. He was +2 as far as +/1 is concerned, he managed to get four shots on net (two of which found the back of the net) as well as lay out three huge hits which lead his team in that department. He displayed a never-give-up winning attitude in this one and contributed in a positive manner all over the ice.

Game LVP

The least valuable player for the game stood in goal for the Raiders for 44 minutes before being sent for an early shower. Jordin FourFour Jr., a highly touted prospect, had a night to forget in this one. He conceded 5 goals in only 16 shots faced, ending up in the locker room with a putrid 0.688 save percentage on the night. Jeremy Anderson was solid in relief of him, and the Raiders would have stood a better chance with him in from the start.

Game MVP

Though Vratislav Zbyněk picked up first star honours, the game MVP for me has to be Vincent Garland. Despite seeing the ice for only 15:13 seconds, he contributed immensely to the win. His goal at the start of the 2nd period tied the game at 3-3, and he added assists on the opening goal and the game winner, showing his offensive potential.

Key Stat

raiders 0/4 PP raiders

Though the Raiders were able to score 4 times at even strength, they failed to capitalise on any of their PP opportunities in the game, and that ultimately led to their defeat. Three of the opportunities came while up 3-1 in the first period, so converting just one of those would have greatly increased their likelihood of winning the game.

Three Stars

1. Vincent Garland Mammoths Garland had a goal and 2 assists in the game. He had the most points and had 5 shots in 15:13 MP. In the first minute of the game, he set up a perfect shot for Niklaus St. Croix and the shot was deflected in the net by Colton Hagan. Then he scored a goal to tie the game up at 3 and scored a point on the power play.

2. Vratisalv Zbynek Mammoths Zbynek scored 2 goals during the game. He played very aggressively by shooting 4 times on the goal and jumping on the opponents with 3 hits for a 20 minutes of ice time. With a 3-1 for Halifax, Zbynek helped the Mammoths to get back in the game. He cut their lead to 1 goal and later he added his second goal in the second period to grab the lead again for the Mammoths.

3. Finn Larsson Mammoths The swedish playmaker had 2 assists in 15:37 minutes. On both of his points scored, he won the faceoff and he was able to get the puck in the opponent zone and make the perfect passes to his teammates.

Unsung Hero

Kevin St. Lauren raiders In 21:56 minutes played, he had an assist and he was +2 during the night. He was the reason why the Mammoths couldn't score 10 goals as he had 4 shots blocked. Those shots were wide open for the scorer but St. Lauren was able to react quickly and saved the team. Or else Halifax would lose earlier in the game.

Difference Maker

Halifax Raiders got outplayed on the special teams. They had 4 powerplays during the game and they couldn't score a single goal. If they could had scored at least one, they might had the chance to win but the Mammoths defense was just better when there was only player for them. The Mammoths had 2 powerplays but they were to score one goal which was the game winning goal of the night.
