Former Czech Republic skater and now WJC GM Samee Iqbal announces new additions to WJC roster

With only a day left till the  S45 World Juniors Championship's official opening ceremony, the Czechoslovakia are still finishing up the roster that they hope will win gold this year. Czech GM Samee Iqbal sat down with the media today to announce that they will be adding 5 players to the Czech roster, each one also being eligible for the upcoming S45 SMJHL Draft, joining fellow draftee Micheal Scarn.

"We we're really looking to up our depth core for the upcoming tournament, and just based off their play during camp, you could tell these guys are fit to play on the wonderful roster we have going into the tournament, with that, we'd like to welcome defenseman Bernik Vrzala, Andrej Doskocil and David Vent, alongside of goaltender Jakub Hasek and winger Petr Mikulak to the roster!"

Bernik Vrzala will certainly be a strong addition to the bottom 4 for Czechoslovakia. The young defenseman has been very active in training for the upcoming draft, and has shown incredible strength in two of the most important things for a defenseman, his skating ability and his defensive read. Vrzala is a player who knows how to deal with the puck in his own end, and isn't ever a stride behind as he displays great speed in his game. It's possible that the sees the most time out of the new additions solely because of his strong defensive play.

Every team needs energy on the bench, and that's what David Vent has been brought in to do. He's been a solid show at the SMJHL combine, displaying great strength, and on the ice back home he's shown he's capable of throwing some damaging hits, and does have a strong pair of hands when it comes to fighting. He likely won't be seeing much time in the tournament, but when he's out there he'll be dealing full health bars of damage. Nonetheless, a solid and very physical defenseman.

Vrzala does have some competition for that top 6 spot with Kevin Maddox, and it'd be coming from Andrej Doskočil. Once again we're looking at a defenseman who's given his play a ton of work, showing great strides at the SMJHL combine and at training camp. His greatest strengths come from his great defensive plays and ability to read the play of the other teams, however his stride isn't exactly the strongest. He has shown he can deiliver some crisp clean breakout passes. Doskočil will be someone who can see top 6 time in the lineup, and is someone perfect for relieving pressure off top defenseman.

Petr Mikulak is an addition to the forward depth of the strong Czechoslovakian forward core. The winger has put on an elite shot on display during his triple A days, and is a solid skater and puck mover. Mikulak won't be seeing much time, but will be someone expected to hold up the fourth line with center Micheal Scarn.

Jakub Hasek will hopefully not be seeing much time out there, as he will be playing benchwarmer as backup to starter Petr Vrana. The young goaltender looks to be a future starter, and hopefully a solid backup who can clutch it when Vrana can't (hopefully never!). Never doubt any goaltender who's name involves Hasek.

According to manager Samee Iqbal, each skater will be making their Czechoslovakia debut tomorrow night for their opening match.
