When it came down to deciding a place to play this international series, clearly the only place to play it was right in Helsinki, Finland. Finland has a rich hockey tradition, and it’s a super cool place to visit too. On top of that, Finland is usually a big contender for IIHF medals, historically. So it makes lots of sense to head there for a two game series. Who’s playing you ask? Well, the SHL Head Office has decided to send the Edmonton Blizzard and Calgary Dragons overseas. The Blizzard is a slam dunk choice, as the just set a record for most points in an SHL season. Not to mention they have a nice rivalry with the Dragons already. Calgary is fantastic choice because Dragons leader Esa Anrikkanen is still outrageously popular in his home country, and the Finns are proud that the greatest player in SHL history came from their homeland. It’ll sure be a fun one that will be watched all over the world. (167)
